Күн бұрын

In this video I restored a German axe from "Helko Werk". I already restored an axe a year ago and I wasn't going to make another video about restoring another axe but the incredible work of a friend inspired me to create a handle for this axe very, very special.
So I started the restoration by disassembling the old handle. after inspecting the ax's head I decided to sandblasting it and electrolysis to remove any traces of rust. Restoration continued by repairing the hammered poll, made a new bevel and after that I applied a layer of bluing solution, for anti rusting. After cold bluing process, I removed from blackening with a steel wool and the head axe was completely restored.
The old handle was too damaged to be restored. I took a piece of Black Locust wood and I cutting it until I reached the desired shapes. As I said, I was inspired to make a custom handle and that's only because you voted on KZfaq community to make a custom handle. So, I took a piece of Oak wood and I laminated the palm swell. The results of this axe restoration impressed me and I hope you have the same opinion.
Let's not talk anymore and let the video amaze you.
I hope you like this restoration and if you have questions about part of the restoration process, I am at your disposal with answers to any questions.
Cheers and have a nice weekend !

Very well done. I appreciate the camera quality and audio. At no point was there obnoxious music or exceedingly loud feedback from the tools. I really like the fact you didn't use any excessive material. Everything seemed to be calculated to use the perfect amount of consumables while maintaining a clean shop. I didnt realize how much I enjoyed that until I noticed it. Most importantly, you didn't artificially corrode something and try to pass it off as "ancient". I like your delivery and style.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. These are the BEST restoration videos on youtube. Everything is perfect. From timestamping the videos to putting explanations of what you're doing, filming enough to be interesting but not too much so it's boring. Your videos are relaxing, organized, easy to follow and have everything I want in a restoration video. Other channels, although good, just don't do it as well as this one.

Mine is old too. Has no company marks on,maybe is handmade,I don’t know. And the odie oil is very good, maybe the number one in business. But is too expensive. They ship everywhere but is expensive the shipping too. If you are from USA maybe is a way cheaper but to me was expensive because I paid the price for oil,the shipping from USA to Europe and the tax too

Not all heroes wear capes. 🦸‍♂️ When I was about 16, I found a broken tree branch. I picked it up and noticed it had a natural ax handle shape. Not like yours, but with natural contours. I took the bark off, sanded it, and still have it in my room waiting for the day it becomes something. That was MANY years ago, but I still have it. Someday, my friend, some day. Nice axe. Needs a longer handle than the original in my opinion. Good attention to detail bluing the inside of the eye. Great job on the poll. I also liked how you soaked it in oil overnight. Excellent choice of wood for the handle. Good job.

Finally NO mirror polish or viking engraving/bearded axe modification! Don't get me wrong, I have high respect for those who take the time to do these modifications, it's a lot of work. But i also like to see tools being restored to their original, working shape, something you would take to work and not be worried you would damage the finish you put on it. Nice job man!

I just bought one of these Helko Rheinland hatchets new and was trying to find out how best to reprofile the edge for carving. While I don't have the high end power tools you have, that towel trick with the file should do the trick for me. You've given me plenty of ideas in this video, and you did an absolutely gorgeous job. Especially the poll, so shiny!
