Old Mid Century Dresser Gets a MUCH needed REFRESH- furniture refinishing / restoration

In this video, I'm taking a 1960s walnut dresser and giving it a refresh. It's been in storage for a while, and had a little bit of mildew on it, as well as some veneer chips, scratches, and other finish issues. I could have used the "standard" refinishing procure with this, which would have been a lacquer finish, but I opted to use Odie's Oil, a tung oil based hard wax oil finish instead. I've had great luck with it on my own pieces and it holds up very well.

I can understand why they put the drawers where they did for symmetry, but by putting the drawers in the correct place it makes more sense visually.

The correct placement of the drawers, not only improved their function, but radically changed the appearance of the dresser. It looks more “mid-century” than it did. Thanks for the bunny interlude. When they were side-by-side, one with ears up and one with floppy ears down, it brought a smile to my face!

Hi Angie, don't know if it's by accident or not, this video does not show up in the list of videos on the channel - I stumbled upon it watching the "no paint" playlist. Maybe some settings are wrong? As a side-note: first time commenter here. I love your work and your videos. Not only the actual furniture related content but rather all of it as a whole: the bunnies, Nacho, the music, the backyard garden - and the idea that love and care can restore the world. Also the calming affect of your voice is something that needs mentioning. Don't take it as offence: but I watched your videos for falling asleep during a recent very difficult period when I had trouble sleeping. Don't know if that's on purpose? It's kinda cool but I'm not sure if it's not another glitch there too given that the gothic dressed musicians are not exactly finishing furniture lol - maybe take a look there too :)

The slight contrast between the darker water stained parts and the unstained parts is really nice! I know you said it wouldn't be very noticeable, but i actually think it looks really nice that way!

Hey there Angie! I’m so happy to see you. I am sure I speak for everyone in saying, you were missed. This piece of furniture turned out really beautiful. When I first saw it with the drawers out , I thought “NO way would I ever touch it.” I’d have to take it to a car wash and power wash it. That is something I really admire about you to be honest. Bottom line.. you’re a true artist who is capable of transforming ugly, dirty furniture into something beautiful! Now, Ohmygoodness those sweet bunnies! I can’t stand it… they are adorable. If I could foster animals and not keep them all, I would. I’m reeling from having to put my beloved 17 year old ragdoll cat to sleep today.

yay, rescue bunnies!!!!! i'm so jelly you get to pet them! your finished piece is a triumph. i could see from the get-go that the "middle" drawers weren't lined up properly and therefore weren't in the right places, but dang...with everything finished so perfectly and put back correctly, you created a perfect piece of furniture!
