What do you think? Was the older generation of Parkside X20 tools better? Newer tools may be slightly faster in some regards, but I don't think they are built as well. The non-performance PDSSA impact drivers are basically the same, but there is a big gap in the build quality of the A1 PDSSAP Performance impact driver and the C3 version. The A1 will deliver consistency all day long, whereas with the C3 it is a bit of a shot in the dark as to what you will get.
Do you use an older generation of tools or have you upgraded to the newest ones? Which ones last the most? Let me know your thoughts.
Also let me know if you want to see a plug and play conversion for the non-performance impact drivers and the older A1. There were a couple of questions regarding that in the past. However I think I may have figured out a straight swap now. So let me know if you want to see it.

The Performance A1 is I believe the most robust. However at the moment they are difficult and expensive to find as they are quite old now. From the newer ones the B3 is small, powerful and relatively problem free. However tgey have stopped selling it in most places now. So it is down to the C3 which is in 3rd place as I have seen some issues with them, however you are covered with the warranty so for the price it is a good buy. Also some people have mwntioned they got one on salw for about €30. Which is a fantastic deal!

They all do. Not much difference between the non-performance versions. With the Performance line I am certain the A1 will outlive all that come after it.

Nice comparison. It seems you were not pushing the tool in the bottom bolt, it makes a lot of difference in the anvil impact efficiency. Hope to see the anvil upgrade on the non performance tools!

I will make sure to show you the modded tools once the parts arrive. Just ordering them now. Regarding the tools I handled them the same on every bolt. However they all for some reason had a more difficult time on the bottom bolt. I have also ordered new wheel bolts for the car. These ones I have abused for far too long now!
@DavidArez
@DavidArez 3 ай бұрын
You could maybe make the test with the 4 bolts tightened with the same torque. This isnt a very precise test, but since you the load on the hub from the weight of the car, the clamping force of the wheel changes once you remove the first bolt and can influence results.

That was to be expected as we all know that they lower the quality of their tools. The performance A1 is a sought out tool as is supposed to be powerful and reliable. I missed my chance to get one. I do have de b3 and is still doing a lot of work. That overload protection on the c3 kicks in fast because they lost a lot of money with the b2 version 😂. I would definitely appreciate a test with freak anvils but with a different setup(a rig of some sort) if you have time to make one with new bolts(9 or 10 in strenght) as they are not elongated as easy as normal bolts. The bolts one the wheels are not exactly rocket science, but I do appreciate that you test the same bolts with the machines. Thank you for your time and money spent on this!

I am working on trying to set up a rig like the one they have at TTC. Unfortunately it is proving quite the hurdle to overcome. Not just in terms of price, albeit it is expensive. But the manufacture of the whole thing is proving quite difficult. I hope I can manage to push it to the end and get that thing working so we can have some proper power numbers.

Good insights! The last stone to unturn in overall tool evaluation is to have a public database of how long tools last over their lifespan. That would be a buyer's golden resource. I think some EU consumers rights lobbies would be the only ones with enough power to establish such a thing, but it will likely never happen. They would have to force manufacturers to accept all returns, disclose failure modes, and offer a rebate on every new replacement tool bought in order to have somewhat accurate data. Oh well.
@BrokeLifeEU

A database of that kind would be invaluable indeed. However as you said it is only in the interest of the consumer and no company likes that unfortunately. Something interesting I have seen on the French Lidl site is this: Translated: LIDL sanctioned for failure to inform the consumer on the availability of spare parts. The Val-de-Marne Departmental Directorate for Population Protection has imposed an administrative fine of €328,000 against SNC LIDL. An investigation by the Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Repression departments noted the absence of information or false information provided to consumers before and during their purchase on the availability time of spare parts for marketed products (in particular equipment). kitchen electrics, DIY tools, furniture and decoration). This investigation noted non-compliance with a previous administrative injunction asking SNC LIDL to comply with the obligation to inform the consumer before and during their purchase of the availability time of spare parts.

1/2" anvil from aliexpress came yesterday. C3 on order, coming on Tuesday same as the patient, a Range Range Autobiography 4.4. Can't wait.
@BrokeLifeEU
@BrokeLifeEU 3 ай бұрын
On the C3 it is best to grind away 1mm off the base of the 1/2” anvil. That is where it meets the hammer if the impact mechanism. So when assembled you can turn the anvil freely by hand and there will be no resistance against the impact mechanism. Which bushing did you order? Because I feel tye steel one is tge winner, it just looks and feels right.

It seems you have a problem with the rim on the bottom bolt. Or the bolt itself. It`s grinding or something. All tools performed way better on the top one.
@BrokeLifeEU

It looks like that yes. In the end I think doing it like this was the same for all of them and in all cases it was at either 180Nm for the non-Performance tools or 200Nm for the Performance ones. The bolt always went in smoothly and was tightened smoothly. So it was more difficult for them, but I consider it a constant and not a variable on how tight the bolt is.
@ehvlullo

Nice comparison. Given that it's quite a bit shorter and lighter than the rest, the new performance one on the surface seems to be most in the spirit of an impact driver to me. No use in all that power when you can't reach that screw in a tight space.
@BrokeLifeEU

Thank you! I find the best compromise to be the slightly older B3 model. Same size as the new C3 Performance, but manufactured by the company that made the oldest - A1 Performance model. That I find is the best compromise in terms of size, power and price. However it is becoming increasingly difficult to find.
@Cedo86

Hey, enjoyed watching, some old tools are definitely better. Did you know that you can set that C3 to work in expert mode, only with smart batteries, in that case all four numbers are illuminated and supposedly it should be stronger.

The olds first versions tools seems to be slightly better than the new versions. Probably due to dowgrade of quality components on new version. Expecially the performance versions shows that gap.
@BrokeLifeEU
@BrokeLifeEU 3 ай бұрын
Yes, seems to me they make a model and then try to make it cheaper with the next version. Hence why the A1 Performance was good and the B2 was not. After that the B3 was good and the C3 is fine. At least with the C3 it was not a big downgrade. The C3 is still a good tool just not as good as the B3.
