It was around 12noon(I was eating lunch) when all of the sudden the boat started to move. We all wondered how could the ship rock at pierside! I went back in July 2017 to vist a friend. My ship went to Subic probably 7 or 8 times a year. After that I was station dito in Subic on the USS Sterett CG-31 from 1986-1989. I left before the base closure and Mt Pinatubo eruption. I'm heading back in October this year and am really looking forward to it. From what I've seen in recent videos, nothing looks the same as it did back in the good old days. Thanks again for sharing.

Hi Brian! Big Foot Dave signing on again. Awesome job what you have done with this compilation of memories where everyone was a dear friend. I was assigned at “Clark Air Base” from 1976 to 1979 but I did get down to Subic Naval Base a few times and let me tell you Olongapo was wild. This is probably the greatest thing you could have done for all military, dependents and civilians who had this great opportunity of serving during these great times. Someone once told me that Clark Air Base and Subic is the place where you would met all your friends from the “United States” and they were correct as I met people from my home town and other locations that I never thought I would see again. I never thought in my life time that I would see the day when Clark and Subic would leave the Philippines because there is so much history that unites the “United States” and the Philippines. As one of your subscribers mentioned here, the United States Air Force and Navy here in Philippines allowed 10% of Philippine nationals to join every year who qualified. One of the Philippine locals who I knew that ran a karate dojo had joined the U.S. Navy and was on board the plane with me when I returned to the United States in 1979. Enough said for now as I share with your subscribers in cherishing the memories. The Philippines will never see those days again as they now live only in the memory who had the opportunity to wear the military uniform and proudly serve here in the Philippines. Before I sign off I want to thank all that wore the uniform and served for their service, some that have gone on to glory. World War II which my father fought in with the U.S. Army and also the Vietnam war carry great memories here at Clark Air Base as the wounded was brought here to the hospital at Clark. Take care Brian with my regards to your family. Big Foot Dave signing off.

We went there on a day trip and found this US sailor blind drunk with no money. All his mates had left him so we did the right thing and looked after him all day. Only problem was we couldn't wake him when we were leaving. We couldn't just dump him where we found him so we took him with us to Angeles. No sooner had we got there he wakes up and asks where he is. We gave him some money to get him to Clark Airbase and hopefully back to Subic. Not good of his mates to just leave him passed out in the street with no money on him. Especially in those times when they were being killed. We did our good deed and he had a good time with us.

Great vid-@7:55-me olde unit-da Screw Crew-VMFA-232. Looks like mid 70's-ground crew still in sateens. I was there with the crew Dec. 1981-our mid DET "break". Spent the month there-when the boats would pull out-it would be QUIET. Memories............

Brian , I never would have guessed you could do better than the last photo-documentary , but you literally hit it out of the park brother !!!! And , as a Marine and a friend , I thank you . Wow.........you're amazing . I might just make a trip from Toronto to the Main Line or even Center City and have a cheesesteak in your honor ! Fried onions ?
