The Gap is a window into different lives and different generations.
Two people, from different age groups, discuss a shared experience that impacted their lives, how it affected them and how they dealt with it to ultimately emerge stronger.
In this episode Georgina, 27, and Beverly, 70, came in to our studio to discuss their work in the sex industry. Through their conversation we learn about the dangers of sex work and how it can impact on your love life.
This interview was filmed pre-pandemic. Thanks to Georgina and Beverly for taking part.
You can read Beverly's book here: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/197324541...

*"God not willing that any of you should perish but that all should come to *repentance."* - 2 peter 3:9 Judgment day is around the corner... I'm saying this out of Love.. please get right with God! God loves us dear friends. But He wants us to *choose Him over sin* & darkness. Whatever problem you are facing He wants to heal you and give you real hope. Just seek Him! He wants to save your soul from eternal damnation.. HE sent Jesus to suffer and die for you on the cross shedding His blood for all of our sins so we can be set free and forgiven and come into a true personal relationship with God. Jesus said in Luke 5:32 *" I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."* that's ALL of us. You and me. Do not harden your hearts to the Truth & Voice of the Lord, this might be your last chance to get things right. I was once a sinner, defiling myself seeking for approval and value in all the wrong but Jesus saved me. Call out to Him today cuz He wants to save you too. Please be merciful to your own souls... this life isn't the end all be all.. but The next one in Eternity is. So don't be unwise. John 3:36 *"Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him."* 🤍🙏🏽🙏🏽u

What surprised me as an older woman in the industry is how many men want to believe you're a little bit in love with them. They have no intention of leaving their wives or disturbing their finances: it seems to be an ego thing, and maybe it soothes the guilt. Some would ask if I loved them. I don't like lying, but I'd say of course silly or something like that. Let me be clear: if I'm f*cking you for money, I don't love you. Plain and simple.

To me that isn't right either, and you could wonder which is healthier, the one who pays or the one who takes and never agrees to meet again? I am not sure, at least the professional woman gets something out of it but still ... It isn't easy to deal with the mind in a job like that, so easy to fall in love with clients w ho day they are going to leave their wives but never do... @@gailainsley6939 It makes me sick thinking about it all... l used to have a few night stands when l was young, and l won't even go into the reasons why, it was always unpleasant and left a bitter aftertaste as the men didn't want relationship with me the next day. It could be l was awful at it of course, but l was groomed into saying yes when l wanted to say no, and that by saying yes they would want to be with me... Our culture in the 80's and 90's pushed us into having sex on a casual basis, just like they pushed the drug culture (the pills at raves) and it is amazing we are still a coherent society after all that. A lot of damage has been done, having conflict between what society allows us to do (night stands) yet on the other side religions like catholicism which tell us it is evil and dirty and we should feel ashamed and guilty doing those things - a real mind f**k. My father never wanted me to be promiscuous but due to childhood sexual abuse and being groomed into feeling like a valued sexual object, it was really impossible to make any sense of what l felt, never mind saying no to a man as l was desperate to find a boyfriend, thinking it was what l needed to become healthy. Too much rambling... and too much happened in between. All l can say is... l am glad l am out of all this. Now, l understand, even if it is too late.

@@kristyway7425 I agree. It's actually better for communities as a whole if they decriminalize it. You're never going to stop it. Prostitution is the world's 2nd oldest profession. Being a Mom is #1 because prostitutes have Mom's 😁 it allows you to create a "red light" area so no one can complain it being in neighborhoods and schools. You can set up a system of licensing that could pay for health departments to handle testing for the workers and basic medical care maybe. I also think if it's treated more like what it is, a JOB, workers are better protected by the law if they encounter abuse/violence/criminality from a crazy client. I don't judge sex workers because I'm not God and it's not my job. It's not something I'd ever want my kids or grandkids to do for a living, if I'm being honest. I just think it's time to set aside our antiquated ideas and do the right thing which is to protect workers. Sex shouldn't be criminal unless it's non consensual or involves kids. The people who do it for a living aren't criminals, they're human beings who don't deserve to get beat up and robbed or raped and then told "nothing can be done because...." As a psychology student it's so interesting to learn about the lives of those who we don't usually pay much attention to. People like escorts and sex workers are people you just know about, but don't really ask any more about if you know what I mean? I work with people with addictions, and many of them are prostitutes. Every one of them has a cluster of problems, which include physical and mental issues, and every one of them has stated at some point that they didn't like the sex work, nor men, but felt that it was the only thing they could do well, and many of them were told this while they were children by someone who abused them. All of them had traumatic experiences as children and as sex workers. And every one of those I work with has ongoing addictions. It's brokenness which causes people to chose this lifestyle and to stay in it. If anyone believes prostitution is great, they should know more about it, and if they still think it is OK, I wonder if they would recommend it to their daughters and sons as a career goal.

@@yvonnewalton2484 well get ready because you're about 7 years away. A lot changes in 7 years. I'm not saying that as an insult. It's just sad to see another mature woman be cruel about someone older because time has weathered their skin. So what? Even if she did look "older" she is still beautiful. Older doesn't necessarily mean uglier. Wrinkly doesn't mean ugly. Yes she is wrinkly AND beautiful. Then wonder why older women are mocked and seen as less valuable when we have older women being cruel about aging among themselves. You're like women my age in their late 20s early 30s who say they aren't "like other girls " to make themselves feel superior when there is nothing wrong with "other" girls. It isnt a contest on who ages best. We have one body and it changes with time but we are the same people inside forever. How cruel to be so judgmental.

Kinda thought the question about how the industry had changed over the years was geared more towards the older lady who had been doing it for more than 2 decades. Was really interested in what she had to say about it, but the newbie got chatty :(

As someone who was a sex worker from the age of 18 till I was 26 it is a very hard industry to get out of. The money is very addictive, so is the attention. Being able to buy expensive clothes, go on foreign holidays, to treat ur family etc is very addictive. But it does come with negatives too, all the time spent in the gym, tanning beds, watching what u eat, other people knowing and judging u. And of course the violence u cam face. It’s very hard and not glamorous. I got out as I realised I wanted more from life, I wanted a nice partner, i wanted more from life. I am now a mature student and about to start my final year in my undergrad psychology and counselling degree. I would advise anyone to really think about it before entering this industry. It’s not all it’s cracked up to be.

I do like this video because it gives a window that I know nothing about it! And I won't pay for what I can do myself. And strong relation is something that their clients are not looking for or miss searched... mis-configuration 9:05 ... Poor guy, the old one managed well the young one about this event. The young one feel guilty about it. But this guilt is very just like spark of stuff she emotionally deal with.
