I have these "flush buckets" in my 1970 American Standard wall-hung toilets, and I had to get several new ones to replace "fit all" Korky type flappers like this had. Those worked for a while but I was happy that the proper part was still available. Awesome toilets.

Our old house had two of those 5 gallon flushers. Had the flush bucket too...never had a problem with the tanks or in the using of those. They rarely had issues with large amounts of tissue etc.

Pretty clever how you made up a clip to hold the chain.

The flapper is a tilt back and American Standard had these in the early 1960s until 1982. I would've rebuilt the tank with a newer flush valve, fill valve, and handle.

Great job Steve, I know too much about demanding relatives, they sometimes make harder than it has to be.

I will keep rebuilding my American Standard unless the body cracks open and I can't patch it. The best toilets ever built. No toilet ever really uses water, the water always gets recycled just like any other toilet. Some recycle more than others. This planet would really be dried out by now if everything actually used water. But with the polar ice caps melting we have plenty more to spare.

Thank God for people like you. I learn a lot. Ran into this same issue and told the poor older woman she needed to replace her toilet, which at some point she would've needed to anyway because I couldn't get it to stop running after replacing whole flapper set. This flush bucket would've saved the day

Worked on many of these Am.Std.tilt valves made different kinds snap on disc screw on type bolt thru base

I'm amazed at people who can't diagnose and fix a simple flappah valve issue. Even though this model of flappah is out of the ordinary, you can get them nearby ... And it's not "rocket science" to figure out how a toilet tank fills and empties.

I think My Dad put in Low Flow Toilets several years ago. That was back when We used to have a Spring way out in the woods and We used to have those Old Jet type pumps that took forever to build up Pressure. We have submersible pumps now.

My Parents had American Standard Toilets in their House when they built it The 1970's.

I just bought on of these flapper from HD and installed it no problem...but...I have to hold the flush level for 3 seconds or the tank won't drain completely. The flapper just drops as soon as I flush and it results in an incomplete flush...why?

if you look at the chain that PULLS the flapper Up.. it pulls up and to the LEFT...so what happens is the Flapper eventually gets pulled off center... the way to fix that is to Rotate the Flapper back OVER center and then ReFlush to verify you've reCenteed The Flapper.. That should have fixed it... just sayin ...
