The baby at the end of this commercial for old Sydney town is my son. My husband and I went there for the day and I remember the a tv crew approach me and asked whether they could film him because he was always smiling and laughing. Still does today he's 35 now. We loved going there it was such a good day. Sad that its not there anymore

OMG is that right? WOW, thats amazing. I'm a mad historian and love anything Australian. I watch this ad and grieve that it was all before my time. I would give it all to be able to see this place just once. Terrible we've watching it closed down, yet happy to send the family to see Batman on the gold coast. Where is our identity going? Its such a shame.

I agree mate, I fell in love with the place when I was 7. Sparked my interest in Aussie history, I fear we are definetly losing our identity. Especially to the 'Im Offended' brigade who probably want to rename the place 'Old Invasion Town'

It probably gained more publicity in late 1994 and early 1995 do to an American tv show being filmed there. The 44th-46th episodes of Season 2 of ''Mighty Morphin Power Rangers'' Had used it for the colonial days of their home town of Angel Grove, California. Ironically, CA was populated by Spain at the time. The Feature Film was being shot down there but due to delays in filming, they shot season 2 episodes 41-46 down there. S2 Episodes 41-43 used Sydney as Sydney while 44-46 Used it for different parts of Their City and Old Sydney town.

Been closed since 2003 and in 2014 a fire destroyed a large chunk of it. Today i checked it out just down the road from the Gosford Reptile Park. It's all fenced off and everything's falling apart, shame.

So many good memories went there in 1988 was about 9 years old. It was fun and the picnics were awesome. Shame the place is closed now.

Jesus, haven't seen that ad in 30 years. OST was a great place, I went heaps. When we went as kids in the 70s it was all very serious, but I remember going in the late 80s and the "re-enactments" were mainly double-entendres that wouldn't have been out of place in "Are You Being Served". They should open it up again, but no doubt they couldn't do it without acknowledging "the original inhabitants"!

By the time I got there (in the 1990s) it was run down and there weren't any actors walking around. I seem to remember most of the buildings being closed as well. I'd heard so many good things and was sooo disappointed.

I really miss this theme park :( I had many memories of this place. I've been lucky enough to go more than one to this place. I remember when I went with my school as an excursion and one of the many attractions was the schools class room and there was a teacher that would ask you maths questions and he would slam the table if you got it wrong Hahaha. Also I enjoy the cats of 9 tales show and was that whipping real? It looked real with all the blood dripping from his back sure made me believe it

I loved Old Sydney Town so much we used to go at least once a year in primary school w my afterschool/holiday centre (mid 90-late 90's) so diassapointed it's closed. OST & Sussanah Place were my favourite places to go as a child. I liked how they showed you the life of the average person / child. -3 -3

They used this place in the second season of "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers". Due to delays in shooting the movie, which was shot in Australia, two sets of three part episodes were partially filmed down there. The first one, "The Wedding" was used for the Rangers' trip. The second, "Return of the Green Ranger" used a lot of Sydney and Old Sydney town.

Such a pity that it closed. Ballarat's 'Sovereign Hill' history-based theme park is still going strong; why couldn't Old Sydney Town work????

90% of theme parks in NSW have closed. Best guess is they cost to much to run in this state. Also today's Generation Y couldn't give a stuff about australias past

"I Wanna Go Back To Early Times (Old Sydney Town)" LYRICS: They sailed out here in chains on ships that have hanging for steel and bread. And the reason that we're here today is those who went ahead. Woah......I wanna go back to early times! Go back in history. I wanna go back to Old Sydney Town to find out why I'm me. I wanna go back to Old Sydney Town. I'm an Australian. I wanna go back to Old Sydney Town to where it all began. The fight in the sky, and the damn and the light. I wanna go back to see The women and men who, way back then, started my history! How did they live? How did they die? I wanna go back to see The women and men who, way back then, started my history! Oh! I wanna go back to early times! Old Sydney Town's the way! I wanna go back to Old Sydney Town. There's change in every day! I wanna go back to Old Sydney Town to see where we began. I wanna go back to Old Sydney Town...'cuz I'm an Australian.

Same here I went in year 4 which was in 1997 and also being left handed they yelled at me, But I guess the actor that was playing the teacher wasnt expecting me to just change hands willy nilly it's good knowing how to write with both hands but even my family finds it strange I write left handed but do everything else right handed, they just look at me with a blank look you can see the cogs turning as there trying to figure out how the hell I do it (I dont even know)

Hi Grubco, quick question - we are trying to track down the baby at the end of this ad as we think they must be early 30's by now. We're using any means we can, I wondered if you might have any leads for us? Did you get this ad from a network? Or do you know anyone involved in making the ad etc? Thanks

Just think if they did something like this now you would have to have boats with people throwing the kids overboard, Throwing there passports overboard, or showing demo's on how to make there boats breakdown. You could of had a building display but that would have been for the first show only as it would have been burnt to the ground. I think as growing up as kids we had the better times with all these different things out there.

Loved that place as a child...Would love to see it reopened...though I'm sure that would cause some sort of race related outrage... being that in trying to keep it historically correct, certain races nor religions weren't here back in "the day" :/

Wouldn't doubt that they sold it to somewhere like Malaysia. When the Japanese bought Australia's Wonderland it went downhill from there and Hanna Barbara Land was closed shortly after. Pitty both these wonderful parks are no more. I was fortunate to experience them but sadly my son won't :-(

One of the first places I went to on an school excursion when I first arrived in Australia as a young boy. The othet historical attraction was 'Australiana Village' near Wallacia if I'm not mistaken. These places would now be considered 'culturally insensitive' in the eyes of the politically correct mob if they existed today. What a shame!
