Hi Bob thanks. I have not used the flexcut knife I know when I got this the flexcut was around 100 bucks. You will have to sharpen the blades on the 240T a little. But if your into carving you can sharpen yeah. The flexcut might be a better knife I understand it comes with a block to sharpen the inside of the V tool and gouges. As I said I dont own one or used one. The oldtimer has worked well for me its not the knife I use all the time its more of a have in the pocket when out camping in the woods knife. I do use the gouges on it often though if you saw my first impressions video on it You get a lot of control on the gouges that are at a right angle. All the best Dave

Hi. I took it up to almost the nail hole almost half way up the blade. I like a flat ground blade. This is not flat but it far better and you get a nice bite. If you a getting a good deep bite now stick with with what you have done but you could just knock the back edge off the bevel back so its not as steep wedge thats basically what I did. I found with the original grind it stopped at that bevel. Yeah they take a bit of work to polish up but at the price I think its a good little knife. Happy Carving.

Thanks. Yup first spoon ;-) but I had been carving for a couple of years by then so not a hard one to do. You will have to sharpen it when you get it just need finishing really. @@SouthpawDavey rough rider schrade and buck all great American knives but China now make them I own all these knives but issues I have was was with knife you sharpened I own about 2 them jack carving knives love em I do own a flex cut whittling jack I don’t like price so schrade is winner just bit of graft gets ya great tool or tools let’s face it it’s a workshop in ya pocket lol. @@johndagostino2451 I just made a hook knife last week from an old hand saw. I am in Switzerland so dont find much from Sheffield here. Well Apart from me lol. Yes i am made in Sheffield. My mother worked in the cutlery industry mostly as a buffer so its in my blood. Nothing finer than working with tools you have made yourself. Cheers

Nice to have something that you can use. I only use oil as I said no water and I always had a little oil can in my box.

It will cut a lot deeper if you do. I like a flat grind I find it will take nice big chips off. Cheers Dave

Sorry for the late reply we were dealing with a death in the family. I think this knife only comes right handed. I am also left handed and find it ok to use a left would be better.

i had no problem with the steel sharpening or keeping it sharp. Yeah a lock would be better but if your not cutting with the back of the blade it wont fold up on you. Swiss army knife they dont lock best selling knife in the world. The flex cut is way better than 24OT but 5 times the cost not 5 times better though.

This is the only knife of theirs I own so I can not comment on that. The steel is good. Its not that sharp sharp out of the box but the price was right. Is it as good as the flex cut? no. Is it worth what I paid for it? Yes. Thanks for looking and your comment. Dave

I have both knives the flexcut is a better quality and like you say the Sharade is more affordable. I have several Sharade's that are U.S. made and there steel is far better than their Tiwan made counter parts. I have had the Sharade try to close up on me, but luckily I didn't get cut. The Flexcut blades lock in place. I have many carving tools since I have been carving since I was 14 years old, I'm 67 years young now. I worked for 5 years as a Carver at Silver Dollar city. Wood carving is a great pass time. It's good to see people keeping it going. But for tools you get what you pay for.

@@robertcutburth3745 You are right. As I said I can not comment on the old steel to the new overseas steel. For me its a pack knife or in the garden. It would be better with a lock on it and I didn't like the grind on the carving knife I re ground that. But for the price it good. The flex cut is a nice knife but for the price I could get a set of nice Swiss made knifes gouges and a tool roll for my pack. Bulkier but better again. I got more into carving a few years ago after an operation it is a great pass time. All the best Sir Dave

Carving is a great stress releaver. I'm retired now but still carve a lot. When my dog and I go to the woods I always take a carving knife and set and make something. All the best to ya, keep carving it's an enjoyable past time.
