Oldham Edge is where Michael has not been for a long time. Its a naturalist's paradise, thickly wooded, impenetrable in parts, but with many open spaces. A network of paths within woodlands with rich variety of trees and plant life, also deers if lucky enough.
Because of so many trails it's easy to get lost, but quite a delight to wander off not knowing where tracks will take you.
Oldham Edge also has links to the music world of the Oldham Tinkers.

Situated on the edge of Greater Manchester in a large area of grassland. A natural reserve with mix of wild fruit, woodland and plantations. Nice to find somewhere so local)

Changed a bit since we played in the the old world war tank left up there. Spent a lot of time in the 60’s and 70’s as it was just up the road from Belmont street and then St Mary’s. Haven’t been back since.

That's good to read Brian. We were pleasantly surprised how popular this walk was with viewers. Michael had often seen the Oldham Hill driving down towards Royton, so we checked it out. Thanks for comments.

Not heard of Oldham Edge before, but have found it on the map now. Good to see some more green areas of Oldham. Nice to see you in shot a bit more Shanita as you walked along 😀 Interesting stone circle, similar to some of those in my neck of the woods. I've never seen real sloes before, so good to see Michael had picked some. I always take a bottle of sloe gin down to Mum's at Christmas, so I shall be doing the same this year 😁 All the best Shanita, have a great weekend 👍

Prefer to be filming rather than in front of camera. It's intriguing how these stone circles appear whether genuine or not I am not sure. Hope you have a great time at Christmas when you take that bottle of sloe gin to share with your mum. Have a great weekend yourself Patrick and many thanks.🙂👍

Love watching your videos always something new...i bet that Michael was a handful when he was younger, getting grasses tangled in peoples hair and throwing sticky bobs at them...ha ha.

Thanks Steven. Had to smile at your comments about Michael. I think you are right about his childhood antics. I'm relieved when opportunity arise to put something different in filming walks.

Yes, I was quite a fan of the 'Owd'am Tinkers' for a time. My Uncle used to work with one of them, John Howarth. I also remember twisting grass stems into my pals' hair and yanking it when we were lads......we called it a 'Chinese haircut'! It certainly looks more interesting than I was expecting up on Owd'am Edge. I last visited it as a lad in the late 1980s and the trees were very small. Merry Christmas to you both, Chris

That's so interesting Chris about your Uncle working with one of the Oldham Tinkers. Sadly I think they lost one of their band members. (I've put a link below and on FB to their web site.) Can't believe you had the same inclinations as Michael about twisting grass stems. That made me smile the 'Chinese Haircut." All the best for Xmas to you, Cath and family. Many thanks for watching.

A lovely ramble discovering pastures new. I knew that a coppice was an area of trees, but I never knew how/why they were managed. Michael is definitely a mine of information. I agree with Steven. It is great to see you in more shots, Shanita. Thank you for sharing. I've really enjoyed this video, and I've finally realised who Michael is on my channel. It took me way longer than it should have. Merry Christmas to you both.

I think you meant Patrick (Solitary Rambler) not Steven. Thanks for that comment. I think its more thinking more about what to say in front of camera. I tend to freeze up. Glad you worked out who Michael is commenting on your channel. Have a good Christmas yourself Chris.🙂

I was a fan of the Oldham Tinkers in my youth, bought a few albums and went to a concert, loved listening to the local dialect and they were quite comical too. A good song was about Tommyfield Market - "Apples a-pond pears, rabbits as big as bears, turnips wi' nobs on, carrots wi' clogs on". I used to play the piano at a hotel in Oldham centre on Christmas day, did it for four years during my student days. Interesting walk, the nearest we have been I think is Tandle Hill with some good views.

That's s interesting to read Steve about the Oldham Tinkers. I don't know if they are still performing though. Like the dialect - sounds like another language to me. What memories for you playing piano at Oldham hotel. Would have loved to heard you. It was only a short walk just for a change.

Hello to you lovely Shanita & Michael! thanks for taking us on your walk. All that fresh air and exercise! My hubby is not keen on walking !! I really wish & hope he changes lol 😅 Liked the White house pub pity it was closed ! The stone circle was most surprising! Did you find a nice spot for your lunch? The coppice was interesting, i looked it up like you Shanita i hadn't a clue what one was, so thanks for that. I'm in Lancashire in Bolton so not too far from Oldham . I am a bit of a wimp in isolated areas i have an over active imagination lol! Wishing you both a nice xmas by the way and a great new year! Xxx

Hello Anna. Nice comments. Yes I am like you I would be quite disorientated without guidance on unfamiliar routes. It's a pity your hubby is not keen on walking. I used to walk on my own but not so confident nowadays. I knew the White House was closed, but no, we weren't out for long to have lunch. You probably saw me munching a banana in the shot of the two of us walking towards camera. Wishing you both a lovely Xmas and can't believe another New Year on its way. xx
