Laddow Rocks is an outcrop of gritstone cliffs overlooking the valley below. We did not manage to complete the full circular walk, due to heat humidity, so it was a linear route instead. But the spectacular landscape views and fond memories from Michael's early walking day, made up for it.
Free parking off the A628 next to Crowden Camping and Caravan Club. The pennine Way begins just further up the lane from there and follows the deep valley of Crowden Great Brook snaking below.

What stunning views. Loved the win berry picking, love those berries so much . We used to make pies out of them when i was a child ! Interesting to spot memorials , people remembered fondly. Hope Michael was soon feeling ok, i myself don't do well in humidity! I'm so glad Shanita your camera was in your camera bag all along 😊, i bet you was so relieved. So nice to see this vlog beautifully filmed as always. Thank-youl so much, really enjoyed watching !

Hello Anna. I agree. Making pies with win berries and cream is delicious. Michael recovered once back in lower latitudes and taking its easy again, but despite this the climb itself was an experience to remember. As far as camera was concerned lapses of memory doesn't help much. Have a lovely New Year and 2024 and many thanks for your support.

Fabulous exploring spot, always refer to it as the local Grand Canyon when describing it to others. Nice to see 'summer' on a wet and windy day like today.

Yes Nick, - this was late September/October the end of summer, but that day changed to humidity, then the seasons changed afterwards to Winter. A very rewarding experience though. Thanks for watching.

Gosh, watching that does make me long for spring and summer! I've done a fair bit of walking and camping around Crowden and Laddow Rocks. Good to see Michael enjoying the wimberries too. This year was an excellent crop. Loved Michael's flint story as well. I used to enjoy my old flint hunting days. Hope you both have a happy New Year. Best wishes, Chris.

I know, summer months are soon over unfortunately, but at least it's good to see earlier walks even if only a few months ago. Not sure what happened to those wimberries ? Michael's just informed, he ate them all !! Bet camping up round Crowden quite an experience with those majestic valleys. All best for New Year to you and family. Best wishes Shanita

I agree Justin. The views were worth the climb up and gave a sense of ex[ansive space to the valleys below. Thanks for your comments.

Happy New Year Shanita to you and Michael, hope you both had a lovely Christmas 🎄🎅🏻☃ I recognise this route having done it myself a few months ago 😁 It certainly is a long hard climb up from Crowden to Laddow Rocks, but the views are to die for. Amazed when I heard Michael talk about people pinching parts of the wreckage to sell on Ebay, just unbelievable really. Hope Michael was ok after this walk with his breathing difficulty. You definitely did the right thing aborting the walk once he was struggling.

If you remember I mentioned we had just done that Crowden walk after you uploaded your film a few months ago. Michael recovered as soon as we descended back down, but relieved he took my advice not pursue further. Yes. I thought it incredible too, how anyone would want to make profit on eBay out of a crash tragedy. A bit sick ! All the best to you for New Year and future filming.🙂👍

I went up to Laddow Rocks once using this path, Shanita. It really took it out of me. It is very unforgiving. But you still got to see some beautiful views and Michael's health, and both of your safety is more important than any hike. Thank you for sharing, and have a great New Year.

Thanks Chris for those comments. It was disappointing we didn't get to do the whole walk but as Patrick said he found the whole walk looks days to get over. May be another time but going up the easier lower valley brook side first instead. Happy New Year 2024 to you too Chris.

@CountrysideWalking it took me days to get over too. I hiked it with Anita and she agreed it was brutal but beautiful. But definitely not worth your health.

It's a tough route in any weather but when it's so warm it takes it out of you, Zaps the energy..especially from Oaken clough where the climbing gets much steeper...i came down that valley from Castles last year, planning on following the brook but there was no real path until i got lower down the valley, so a good job that you didn't get that far....exhausting

Wow. That's amazing reading your comments Steven re. Crowden Valley. Didn't expect to see so many confirmations of our own experiences which is a sort of reassurance we weren't alone on that one! Thanks and all the best for New Year 2024 to you and Karen. 🙂

That looked like a good walk, I did a walk from Tintwistle around Bottoms, Valehouse & Arnfield reservoirs a few years ago and now you have reminded me, I wanted to do more of that area, not sure if the Longendale trail is a good one or not. What a great day you had, puts me off looking out of the window today.

Well at least seeing walks from earlier seasons help to lighten the winter days, from current gloomy wet weather. I once led a group walk along the Longdendale Trail Valley Reservoir, about 8 miles but much easier than that day up to Laddow Rocks. Thanks Steve all best to you and Jeannie for New Year 2024. Reply

I was up there in October with the intention of going upto either or towards Chew reservouir or black hill, I managed to get upto Laddow Rocks but was worn out by then so turned back. It's a stunning area though, I managed to get upto black hill from, Digley on Boxing day but not as pretty from that side.

That's so reassuring to know we were not the only ones finding that ascent hard going. I know its a route followed by others, and maybe we the lower valley brook track was easier, with that climb up at the top end instead. At least not as prolonged though! All the best for 2024.

still yet to get up there shanita,stunning scenery in all weather,what is meant by leanier route?is that an easier route and how long did it take?
@CountrysideWalking
@CountrysideWalking 6 ай бұрын
Hi Ken. A linear route means it's one way and not circular. (Therefore it means there and back by the same route.) Depends on the terrain on how easy/long it is. Crowden was pretty tough going at least it was for us with boulders to climb over near the top. No doubt for a very fit person no problems. If a quick walker a few hours. Relieved you survived that mini tornado.🙂
