So nice that you bring up this about perceived motion blur even if the OLED has near instantaneous pixel respons time! I remember comparing an OLED TV from 2017 with my Plasma TV from 2010 (both at 60 Hz) and thinknig motion blur must be so much better on the OLED with its short pixel response time. Oh, my what a surpsise when motion in games looked so much blurrier on the OLED!

Looks to me like a lot of people who are on the OLED monitor bandwagon don't realize the sacrifice they are making with (poor) text clarity - due to OLED's lower pixel density. My Asus IPS monitor does 140 PPI. I'm sure as shit not gonna drop down to 96 or even 106 PPI with OLED just to get darker blacks, much as I would love to have darker blacks. My guess is most people don't realize how good text can look at 140 PPI and so don't realize what they are missing with OLED.

@@dap777754 OLED contrast doesn't boil down to just deep blacks, as was stated in the video. It depends on your use cases and priorities, I guess. If sharp text is of greater importance to you than ghe overall picture quality... When it comes to gaming I could probably imagine this being the case for people who mainly play text heavy RPG games. OLEDs should be thought of as displays purely intended for gaming/video consumption (reading manga/comics is also great on them) at the moment.

I just upgraded from a 160hz IPS to a 240hz OLED. There really is some motion blur but tracking moving objects at medium speed is much cleaner and therefore easier on the eyes. As for Refreshrate: i dont feel much of a difference. - i actually wanted to get rid of motion blur with the OLED purchase but i guess therr is no way to get around that. You said more Hertz, but I doubt i could generate more than 240 frames in Call Of Duty, even with a 4090, cause that 3D-Engine is miles behind modern competitive games which easily go to 500fps😊

@@Tricendo oh, yeah. I should have mentioned that I play in UWQHD (3440x1440) which is about 4.5mil Pixels. I average are 220fps in Multiplayer with a i7 11700k and 32GB 3600mhz. Game is installed on a M.2 with Direct Storage compat. Coincidentally that keeps me well inside the GSync range, but I thought the 4090 could boost me higher, as I am well below 4k (which is 8mil pixels). Maybe I switch to 14th gen when it comes out. My 11th gen might be showing signs of weakness with a 4090, tho both components are not sweating with CoD
@Tricendo
@Tricendo 7 ай бұрын
@prodigy_xd i would check to see what your cpu and gpu ultilization percentage is when playing and if your gpu isnt using 97% or more then yeah, you are cpu limited. Though it might not be as bad as it seems because the nvidia drivers requires a powerful cpu in order to max out the card (in your case a 4090. It basically wants the cpu to lap the gpu in performance to make sure its powerful enough before maxing out at 100%. Theres many videos showing thats the case when using a 7900xtx in the same rig as the amd card will be ultilized higher (thus yielding higher fps in some games) bc it doesn't have that dumb driver that requires a powerful cpu. So you'll want the fastest cpu to get the most out of the 4090. you seem like a plug-in-play type of guy so I would recommend a 7800X3D with 6400MT/S ddr5 ram and a b650 mobo and if that's too much then your can get a 5800X3D which is the platform I'm currently on. When playing overwatch 2 with everything low except textures high and high anisotropic filtering I get 580fps avg and my gpu (3070ti) is at 98% utilization and my cpu is at 30% utilization. I'm getting a 4090 this weekend and getting the lg 27" 1440p 240hz oled. I can let u know what my fps is matching your graphics settings and matching your res using the dsr factor in the control panel.
@prodigy_xd
@prodigy_xd 7 ай бұрын
@@Tricendo I did some more testing and also observed all cores using RTSS (afterburner). My CPU "main" core is usually at 59%, other cores are at 30% and probably not used by the game. Frequency is 4600mhz stock. GPU is not maxed with Ultra details and DLSS Quality. Hovers around 70%. When i disable DLSS the GPU uses 97% and is "voltage limited". So it can't even rasterize "CoD Ultra in non-4k" with more than 160FPS. Not saying it should, but i don't find CoD visually that impressive that i shouldn't be able to reach more. What is dragging down FPS the most in CoD is when you set Textures to HIGH. There is something in there that kills the performance. All while they don't look much better than NORMAL. When i then turn down settings to medium-ish (textures and shadow to normal, no AO, medium AA, no Physics/Weather/Water etc.. what you could call "competitive settings") i also get the GPU usage down to 70% - but without upscaling. Pure rasterization and doesn't look much worse. Then i also get back to the 200 realm, however, i never get above 210. and during all theses multiplayer tests my CPU was not once under pressure. hmmm.. that's why i said in my first comment that CoD engine "is miles behind modern competitive games". It probably isn't made with 240hz in mind. I guess they are happy when it can push 120 on a 4K Console and dont optimized much more beyond that.

Just can't jump on the oled bandwagon with the potential burn-in problem. My monitor is on probably 14 hours a day, and I've been using my current monitor for 7 years now (and my second screen monitor is 12 years old). Not worth buying something that potentially will have burn-in within a couple years and need to be replaced. I want my hardware to last.

@meissnerflux All* displays are sample and hold, that would include IPS or any other commonly used monitor technology. If you want a smoother experience, go enable motion blur or use a blurry IPS. I believe the issue comes when we want both clarity and smoothness. This is where I think BFI fixes the problem.

Are you sticking with your LG as the main monitor, or the ASUS? I went with the LG for the cleaner look/no RGB gaming logo - one of the design choices you referenced. I've had a great experience with mine so far. I game in a room with the lights on and have 0 issues with the brightness. I don't have much natural light, but otherwise you wouldn't say I'm in a well lit room. Closing in on 900 hours of screen time, no signs of burn in. I do have a pure black background, so some of those hours are effectively 'off' - but for the most part, playing at close to max brightness (90) quite a bit of HDR use (vast majority of those 900 hours are with it on) What was MOST surprising to me after seeing it in the store in person, was how little the subpixel layout issue is for text. I literally left the store after seeing it and said it's not a viable option - I don't only watch content and play games on my computer. From the day I got it home, I never had any issues - or I just adjusted instantly. I'm probably 18-24 inches away - and when I was at the store looking at it, I was more like 7-10 inches away(shorter table/desk + looking closely). I would not choose this type of monitor if I was primarily working with text, but it is perfectly suitable for web browsing and reading things like that. (I actually have an LCD right next to it and when I lean in, I can see the difference but it's still slight. From my normal sitting position, it's no where near as noticeable if at all)

One thing that you didn't mention is HDR gaming which while only some games have great native implementation, you can make some games look amazing with Windows auto HDR. Overwatch here pops out even more when I enable HDR on my LG C3 which complements the clean cartoony artstyle. Just make sure to use HGIG if possible to retain the most accurate image.
@SonGokuTribut
@SonGokuTribut 3 ай бұрын
That´s not true. Many Games have great HDR! Or do you play only on PC and it is that bad? On consoles HDR is on nearly every big Game, but also on smaller more and more. Auto HDR is crap. HDR is about Dynamic Range, more Colors and also more details. Fake HDR is not the same.
@phantomflame0658
@phantomflame0658 3 ай бұрын
@@SonGokuTribut Yes I play on PC. HDR is way better on console. I only have maybe 4 games which look good in native HDR. About Auto HDR I moreso meant you can make older titles have a bit more pop. It's not a replacement to real HDR by any means. But seeing Tomb Raider Legend (a 2007 game) for example in any form of HDR is awesome.

GREAT vid! one thing iId love to see in future comparisons is an on-screen tag stating which monitor we are looking at, at all times, as you some times refer to the/a monitor(s) as the "ASUS" or the "LG" and in some shots there are two ASUS monitors? you then sometimes refer to them by their model numbers (I have no idea which is which by this reference as i don't know the model numbers) then sometimes you refer to them as the "OLED" or the "IPS" so we now have 6 difference references for only two monitors...lol....all this confusion can be eliminated by showing 'OLED' onscreen when the OLED is onscreen, and same for IPS. Hope this helps. Appreciate it.

@@budbin With a 3rd party app you can set ClearType to greyscale, but font rendering is pretty bad then. It used to be good until XP, but from Vista/7 onwards it looks awful (I guess that's why MS removed the option). Not all applications honor this setting, so you'll still get subpixel rendering in some apps. The OLED here sounds insane, the only problem is it's not 4k. I had such a hard time buying a 4k monitor because here in Australia, there's no high-end options, all the expensive monitors have significant drawbacks. The 4k X28 monitor I got is an IPS and it's only HDR400, you can get some OLED 4k monitors here but for some reason their mostly big 42 inch ones and at weird refresh rates like 138hz. I just want a 27 inch 4k OLED that's at least 144hz with Adaptive Sync and good HDR, but for some reason there's nothing available.

Peak brightness matters for HDR, not whatever the monitor maxes out at in SDR
@Cuthalu
@Cuthalu Жыл бұрын
The peak brightness isn't 248 nits on HDR, it's much higher. Also, HDR requires good contrast even more than high peak brightness - high brightness doesn't do you any good if your "black" is bright grey. Major additional benefit of HDR is that is has far more image information: better colors, more nuance on lightning etc.
@phantomflame0658
@phantomflame0658 3 ай бұрын
For HDR to make sense you need to be in a dark environment. It's all about the contract between zero blacks, and shiny whites that pop out at you plus the more realistic colour pallette. 250 nits is already quite bright but when there's for example a flash or reflection off a puddle on my LG 42 C3 it gets up to like 700 nits. For bright viewing you should be running SDR with calibrated settings.
