Fagin, Bill Sikes, & Nancy learn that Oliver has been arrested after he is caught on his first pickpocketing attempt. Bill threatens Fagin and tries to make him go to court to make sure Oliver doesn't snitch on them. Nancy offers to go instead. Oliver is tight-lipped in the court and doesn't give up his friends, instead he finds a new home with the very man he attempted to steal from.

What a fantastic scene from the last great movie musical of all time ! Jack Wild made this film memorable with an outstanding performance! Sadly he is no longer with us and is very sadly missed as well !!!!!

The only living actors from this film are Mark Lester as Oliver and Shani Wallis as Nancy. The others are all sadly gone.

An 1840s constable's uniform from the City of London Police, on display in the City of London Police Museum. The original City of London uniform was blue, to differentiate from the red worn by the army. The collar was high and contained a leather stock to guard against garrotting (strangling with a wire or something similar). This was the most common form of attack against a police officer. These were removed from the uniform by the 1870s.

If I'm not mistaken this is the end of the first act of the film, and there was a short entr'acte before act II begins with 'Who Will Buy?'

In the West End Version, this scene is AFTER the interval because as Oliver got caught in Act 1. This also would be our first introduction to Bill Sykes with “My Name.”
