@@Canuckchick32 I don't really blame Oliver for being that scared. Poor kid. I get that he was scared out of his mind at the moment but he could've taken his chance to run for safety. Other than that, Nancy didn't deserve this kind of death but she did die trying to protect Oliver.

@sharonbeckerle5419 That's true. I felt sorry for Nancy that she died since she was probably the only one sticking up for Oliver especially when she saw that Mr. Brownlow was adopting him, Fagin sent Dodger out to get Oliver back and Nancy said "let him go and enjoy a life of being adopted." When I saw Oliver hugging Nancy, I thought that was sweet but, I'm guessing if he didn't choose to hug her to say goodbye and thank her for the help by not seeing her ever again, he would have made it to the top of the stairs by the time Bill came but, it would be unknown if he ran back down the stairs to save her with Mr. Brownlow following behind Oliver. Plus, when I was watching this movie with other people and when they saw Oliver hugging Nancy they said "quickly run up the stairs and leave." However, I wonder if Bill meant to kill her or not because he had a scared look on his face like he was saying "oh no, I didn't mean to kill her but only tried stopping her" with his look from 1:29-1:31.

@@tristenmoore1275 I agree. I did wonder why Oliver didn't run up the stairs to escape but, I think the reason he didn't was because he was being blocked and prevented from moving since Bullseye the dog was blocking him as seen at 1:33 since Bill held Bullseye responsible for blocking Oliver as seen in the tavern but unfortunately for Oliver, Oliver didn't know that Bullseye turned against his owner Bill.

I think Charles Dickens would be pleased at Oliver Reeds performance as Bill Sikes I heard some of the cast say that Oliver was a big man and could be intimidating but he never hurt them but he could be frightening but a great motivator during the scenes. I heard shani who plays Nancy when asked about this scene and how it was filming it she said “It was all done completely in the moment!! There was very little preconceived Direction. Oliver Reed said ‘Do what you want to me, I will be able to defend myself and I will do the rest’ and he was a great motivator. When he grabbed me, I didn’t expect it and that scene just happened!” That's how this scene was done! I also heard that in an interview with Oliver Reed that the journalist said I hated Bill Sikes for what he did to Nancy and Oliver replied saying you were supposed too! It is sad to watch and I think Bill could easily lose his temper fast and he was so used to Nancy going with what ever he said and abusing her but then she started standing up for Oliver even before this scene and he did not like it at all! Even in one scene he said to Nancy I will have no more of that! Bill did not like to be challenged. Even when he hit Nancy in fagins with the boys they just stood up watching from a distance out of fear and Nancy stood up for Oliver far more than fagin or the boys did. She was the only one to challenge Bill and I admire that! Nancy will always be a famous character because domestic violence and abuse is so common and it happens and you usually don't get that in musicals but it was there she is a brave character and so much love to give! Nancy grew up small with Bill and fagin thieving she even says it in a scene and I believe she did not want that kind of life for Oliver! I know I would not like to get into fisticuffs with Oliver Reed as Bill Sykes even bulls eye his best friend ran away even bulls eye had limits and knew justice had to be done for Nancy!

The acting from Oliver Reed was phenomenal. Even though he killed Nancy to stop Oliver from being returned to safety, he is haunted with guilt for killing his own domestic partner even though it is implied he abused her. While Sykes was obviously evil, he did show remorse for killing Nancy and knows there's nothing he can do to bring her back and he goes into madness as murdering Nancy has psychologically changed him. And even though he is guilt ridden, he knows that the police will get him and execute him for the murder (as well as the fact he is too dangerous to be left alive)

@afriendofbean
@afriendofbean 8 ай бұрын
@TomKeresey10 That actually wasn't really Fagin's treasure. It was treasure he stole. Plus someone else said that when a person steals something from someone else, God finds a way to have it taken away from that person and in this regard, God was saying to Fagin, "all that doesn't belong to you so it's being taken away into the quicksand." But at least him losing his treasure helped him turn over a new leaf which he mentioned (being unknown if he really meant that). Also yes, I felt sad that Nancy died and I'm guessing that her dead body was put inside a coffin and was delivered to Mr. Sowesbury in Dunstable England since everyone here is in London England.

Nancy's death more for sure, but the lost treasure, too--it did no one any good under all that muck. If Fagin had kept it, maybe he could have had a chance to change things, rather than revert back to his old ways, like he did at the end. His only skill was stealing, and without any wealth of any kind, he needed that skill.

Just think, if Nancy went up the steps with Oliver to Mr. Bronlow, instead of hesitating, she would have lived. Also, she could have told her friend Beth to sneak Oliver out during “Oom Pah Pah” instead and stayed close to Bill during the whole scene so he would think Oliver just took off on his own.

A Major Problem at the time during the Victorian Era (1837-1901) was Drunkenness! Amongst the public & the Police themselves. Many of the original Peelers were dismissed with in ten years for being drunk on duty. As well as arresting drunks, the Constables had to cope with all manor of public duties, including Fighting Fires, Breaking up Fights, and as well as Serious Crime. The new police force tended to be Thief Catchers, not Detectives.

An 1840s constable's uniform from the City of London Police, on display in the City of London Police Museum. The original City of London uniform was blue, to differentiate from the red worn by the army. The collar was high and contained a leather stock to guard against garrotting (strangling with a wire or something similar). This was the most common form of attack against a police officer. These were removed from the uniform by the 1870s.
