I guess the restraints have to be so tight and strict because on those fairs, especially oktoberfest, there will be a lot of drunk people riding this....and you never know what crazy ideas they might come up with during the ride 🤣

Alpina Bahn is also on the oktoberfest with the olympia looping and has nothing over the shoulders. Also a Schwarzkopf coaster. Clearence doesn't seem to be an issue as well. Maybe insurance reasons? We've got a ton of rides at our fairs in germany with redundent over the soulder restrains. Redundency is in my opinion the best bet, we germans like that sort of thing. Also: If you are so drunk, that you're tumbling to the ride instead of walking, they will throw you out. I saw that a lot. They don't wanna clean the train every cycle.

I rode it with the shortened trains and also with the full trains. Both in warm/hot weather. It really makes a huge difference. With the full train, it hauls through the loops like there's no tomorrow. It's a lot more mass and you feel it. I'm used to rough rides and rough restrains. Doesn't bother me at all tbh.

Best moment on the ride: The curve that leads from the 1st loop to the 2nd. Needs to be experienced in front row/1st car with the long train set-up. The acceleration you feel as the following cars push you into the curve is unreal. It´s even better when the ride operates with all trains and another train will zip above you in the opposite direction. It´s just amazing what kind of forces the whole construction can withstand. The accordion restraints first appeared on Thriller and they were a quick solution to a sudden problem: Thriller opened with simple lap-bars and a flimsy leather strap that riders were supposed to wear to keep their torso from falling forward. Due to the high, sustained g-forces riders would often slouch forward and then be unable to lift their heads and shoulders up again during the loops. So these restraints were a quick way to prevent this from happening. I´m pretty sure that OL would be fine with simple lap-bars, as the ride doesn´t have the extreme forces and sideways manouvres that Thriller used to have.

As a vertical loop is symmetrical the Gs in the front are pretty much the same as in the back. I'm pretty sure the drive tires are the first block break. You can see that there are some breaks, as well. This thing is built for some incredible capacity.

I very happy this still exists because these 5-6 G intense Schwarzkopf Loopers are just dying, it's so unfortunate. I find it amazing how even ground up Schwarzdofs that aren't as old are so smooth but the fact this traveling one is to just shows how good of a design this is. The restraints are very unfortunate on this, they were on Mindbender as well when it had 3 restraint systems. They all just need a lap bar and not even a seat belt, just all be like Scorpion.

I think the showman wanted to increase the number of inversions in Olympia Looping compared to Thriller/Zonga/Tsunami, but at the same time reduce the intensity. Thriller/Zonga/Tsunami was an absolute masterpiece by Anton Schwarzkopf. Anyone who has ridden the roller coaster in its original form can attest to that. But it was also very intense with a max of 6.5g. That put off many potential riders. With the Olympia Looping, the showman probably wanted to avoid that and at the same time have a well marketable record with the number of inversions. Thriller/Zonga/Tsunami was better, but unfortunately this roller coaster no longer exists and Mindbender will probably follow it soon. I hope a buyer can be found, because the quality of Schwarzkopf Coasters is undisputed. In Germany e.g. several Wildcat roller coasters from the mid 1960s used at fairs. These roller coasters can still be operated today and are still fun for people today.

The restraints honestly didn't bother me all that much, I somehow didn't have the issue of them lowering throughout the ride. I'm a sucker for Schwarzkopfs and especially their vertical loops, so even with the phoned-in finale I loved Olympia Looping.

I love Olympia Looping, but I do agree to an extent with some of your criticisms, particularly about the last section of the ride. The restraints are indeed awful. I believe the shoulder clamps aren't to stop you putting your arms up exactly, but to stop you putting them out to the sides, where you could hit some of the supports. I agree though there are better ways to achieve this, as the shoulder clamps really detract from the ride. I would say Prater isn't the best place to ride it. The best is at a really busy fair, where they will run at least 3 trains. The atmosphere created as the trains fly past in all directions is wonderful, and if you're lucky enough to ride with 4 or 5 trains, watching other trains pass you during the ride adds a lot too. In fact it's a deliberate feature of the ride that trains duel in several spots, and it really adds to the fun.
@DJWezzyK

I have ridden it at the Dusseldorf Fair. It run better as you described and it took the helixes with much more force. I agree the restraints are killing the ride experience. Also the last two loopings were taken with much more force. At this coaster is really depends on how often a train gets send out of the station cause this coaster really depends on warming up to get the best experience and at Wiener Prater it does not run as often as on the German Volksfest/Kirmes. So I believe you need to give it a second chance, under better circumstances. I do not think you experienced the ride in its full potential.

Olympia Looping was more or less designed by Schwarzkopf, but built by BHS and Zierer. The ride has a convoluted history in these regards. At some point there were plans to extend the rides layout, absolutely crazy idea if you ask me… Also Thriller was pure insanity for a Schwarzkopf Looper, man those small loops!

Ridden with both a 5 car train and a 7 car train, back row on a 7 car train is BRUTAL, Top 10 out of 170 coasters, the OTSR's wasn't that bad Imo, would I have preferred it without the OTSR's? Yes, but it's probably due to the showmen wanting to make the ride less Sketchy looking. Overall Olympia is the best Schwarzkopf I've done (With Psykie underground at #2 for comparison, and I've done some of the other big ones such as Magnum force (Now American Dreier looping) and I hope to re ride it at winter wonderland 2023!

I rode Olympia Looping probably 20+ times at Wiener Prater and also at Oktoberfest. Wiener Prater is my home park and it's there nearly every summer. I also think it looks more intense than it actually is but i love this ride so much. I think it's way better in the front row than the back. And night rides on this thing are amazing. The only thing that i don't like is everything after the last loop. It's really slow and boring. I think it would be better if it just ends with a turn after the last loop and goes into the breaks. But for me it's still an amazing coaster and i can't wait to ride it again this year, it will also be at prater this summer!
