OM617 Performance Series: ALDA Delete

Learn how to delete the OM617 ALDA and find a spot for your boost gauge sensor.
Further explanation: Why delete the ALDA? It limits fuel. The boost in the intake manifold is used to move linkages in the injection pump that allow more fuel. The more boost you build, the more fuel you get. This is good because it prevents people from rolling coal. But deleting it allows full fuel off idle without boost, which helps get heavy loads moving easier, and can help spool a turbo quicker under the right conditions.
Once you have your pump modified by #benzforce you'll need the ALDA, as you'll have so much fuel on tap that your vehicle will be undriveable without something to limit the fuel.
P-pump Cummins guys, this is very similar to an AFC.

Hello and thanks in advance, I have a 85 w123 D. and my Alda has a extra vacuum line out of the banjo fitting.. do anyone have an idea what to do with that Vacuum line ? does my Alda send pressure that way ? if so can I redirect ? idk im lost and can't find anything on this topic or style of Alda

Thanks for the demonstration. Your video shows the wrench size, where to position the wrenches and which direction to turn them. Own a 1979 300sd (w116). Want to give my car a small boost but not compromise mpg. I was contemplating on either backing up the ALDA screw or removing the ALDA altogether. Looking forward to more videos. By the way, are you open to the public? Where are you located?

So with this setup the factory overboost controller is deleted? I have a boost gauge T'd into the line going to the ALDA right now, how would you suggest plumbing that to the manifold spot you mentioned with an ALDA delete?

I did it on mine...it did increase the driveability of the car but does it add any horsepower gain?

Zero MAX hp gain. You're not changing max fueling; you're changing the fuel curve pre-boost, only.

@@davidly5793 absolutely not. The ALDA delete is the only modification you should make to your pump besides advancing the timing. If that doesn't satisfy you, send it out to be built by #benzforce. The info you see floating around about getting 15hp by adjusting the pump is all lies and will only render your pump broken and undriveable.

What’s the model number for the Donaldson fuel filter your using? Also any advantages to it? I love Donaldson on my other heavy equipment and would like to use on my OM

I'd look at Glowshift gauges. Pyrometers have nothing to do with the intake manifold, though.

In your video you mention the intake manifold booster line being plugged up with a m8x1.0 fitting, however, your amazon link goes to a m8x1.25 fitting. Which is the correct sized fitting?

What are the the disadvantages of removing the ALDA? Is it harmful for the IP or the engine?

None. No. Only need it with a modified 7.5mm pump

The link to the push-lock-fitting is a m8x1.25 but you say it's a m8x1.0 do you have a link to the right one

I'd just tap it to NPT and be done. That's what I do on anything I build here.

What is the advantage of advancing the injection timing?

Lower EGT's, more complete combustion of the fuel = more power, easier starts. But it increases knocking and raises cylinder pressures, so you can't go past 26 BTDC with a stock pump or 24 with a built pump. I have a video coming out very soon on all of this.
