I have this exact watch and I get +1 second accuracy per day on mine- actually, even better as after 3 or 4 days, it will have only gained 2 seconds. It's by far my favorite watch. I'm 6'-4 with an 8" wrist so the size is perfect for me and the weight is absolutely inconsequential which is a byproduct of its outstanding comfort. This Planet Ocean with the 8900 movement is a pinnacle iteration of the co-axial movement that has been refined to perfection in my opinion. I absolutely recommend this watch to anybody seriously considering buying one. In the world of luxury watches, it’s actually one of the best values available.

A great review and very informative. I have recently changed my Seamaster for a Planet Ocean which was over 20 years old but was still working really well. That said, I find the PO far more comfortable watch to wear and a lot more accurate and easier to read, something that is important given that age is having an effect on my eyesight. If anyone reading this is thinking about buying this watch, my only advice is to stop thinking and just do it you will not be disappointed.

Looks like a very well made watch and I can understand why these are collectible. Cool that you can actually see the workings inside! If I were into watches & actually wore them, I'd def consider this one. Great presentation, WR4K.

Thats one is one of the only newer designed Seamaster Divers that I never did own. While I have grown to really like the Planet Ocean design, the Seamaster Chrono Diver and the Seamaster with the White gold color bezel were the two Seamaster pieces I owned two or three times as one of my distinct patterns I was known to do was to buy new then see new piece that would stay on my mind until I would get it so I would buy then sell shortly after due to the thrill of the newer piece then regret haven sold my Seamaster pieces and hunt down another one and repeat the cycle. I did this with Breitling a lot too as Breitling was my brand of choice and I bought more Breitling Chonomat pieces and Breitling Chrono Avenger pieces from my AD that they would lay out the red carpet literally for me every time I entered their door. They knew if I came in I was buying and like a crazy man I did. Great review and the Planet Ocean is a really fine looking piece. Kashton

I’ve been contemplating the colour of the pip and minute hand. I think it’s so you can easily identify at a glance when the duration you have preset is elapsed. Green minute hand, green pip, that’s your timer. Hour hand being blue, allows for easy differentiation in low light / murky conditions so you’re not making any mistake. In the case of a dive, this would be very important. I get lots of compliments on my planet ocean and I agree with your review entirely. I can honestly say I love my watch and have no regrets about paying full retail. Love the review! Love the channel!

Thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. A solid case back as per the Sea-Dweller would reduce the thickness. However the Arabesque finishing on the rotor and movement is beautiful to look at through the exhibition case back. Regards, #WR4K

@@watchreviews4k if worn for underwater demolition, welding, oil exploration or wreckage/cargo recovery a display back would be somewhat superfluous and could be viewed as a negative. I view movement decoration very highly. The purpose reflects the care and craftsmanship/thoughtfulness reflected by the manufacturer. The primary objective of decoration is to keep dust, slung oils and other foreign debris away from delicate pivots/gears. I am always grateful for your insights and reviews.

@@watchreviews4k I've had it for around 8 months. Its smaller by diameter and thicknesses. And houses the same 8800 movement as the newer sea master. Oppose to the 8900 movement in the one your reviewing, so it doesn't have the quick jump hour hand. That is the only difference. It's the 2020 version. I brought the 39.5 which measures 40mm really. As it's fits perfectly.

@@MyVideosWillCalmU Yes, I think the 39.5mm is better proportioned as thinner. The Calibre 8800 is an excellent movement too. I think the 39.5mm is a better choice than the 43.5mm. Regards, #WR4K

Not the same movement! 39.5mm has the 8800 caliber, quick, date-change. Still a great movement but the double barrel movement in the 8900 will ensure a more ‘accurate’ movement, towards the end of the power reserve, plus you get 5 more hours of power reserve!

Just a fantastic example, of everything a dive-watch, should be. I appreciate, that some may find it cumbersome, throughout the entirety, of the day, at a weight of 200g. Myself in particular, I actually relish, that heft, in some of my pieces. I do have lighter pieces, in my collection, as well, but often prefer to wear a piece, in excess of 150g. If I could only have 1 dive watch, in my collection, and money were no object, the Omega, "Planet Ocean," would most certainly, be it. Great job, WR. Bravo👏

Gorgeous watch, John, great review. It is too big, too heavy and too tall for me, but I still like it and it appears to be well finished. I'm disappointed to find out Omega boxes are not genuine wood (although they are quite attractive). How does the crown action compare to Rolex?

As always great review! Which would you go for 42mm Planet Ocean 8500 or new style SMP 300 8800?
@watchreviews4k
@watchreviews4k 2 жыл бұрын
It depends on your wrist size. The Planet Ocean suits a 7-8" wrist as its thicker profile. The Seamaster suits a 6-7" wrist better as its lower profile. I prefer the 8800 as its METAS certified as a Master Chronometer. Regards, #WR4K

Excellent review! Thanks so much for posting it. I've been thinking about this watch for quite some time. I finally decided to sell my black dial Explorer II and buy this watch. It will be here in two days. I could have gotten two of these watches for the Rolex and still had money left over! Quick question....I have a 16mm wrist. How many links would you estimate I should have removed? I'm asking because I purchased this watch from an out of state authorized dealer and would like them to remove a few links before shipping it. Thanks again!

This piece is definitely a conversation starter… the sheer heft of it will ensure it gets noticed. I really like the orange accents and the [ZrO2] below the pinion! The liquidmetal bezel insert, i think it’s just the numbers and minute ticks that are of this alloy and the rest is ceramic but I could be wrong, is a distinguishing touch of this piece. I dislike the name, i think it’s misleading, I’d have preferred if they would call it metallic glass or gave their specific alloy a matching name. It’s funny, it’s inventor called it a much stronger plastic. Just for comparison purposes but I’m sure you can tickle some watch snobs with that trivia.
@watchreviews4k
@watchreviews4k 2 жыл бұрын
Liquid metal is titanium alloy; the silver sections of the bezel insert, combined with ceramic for the black sections. Calling it plastic refers to the malleability of the liquid metal. I prefer the look of the aluminium bezel used on the 2500 Planet Ocean with the large silver ring around the crystal. However these were easy to scratch as they are much softer than ceramic. Regards, #WR4K

While it's totally subjective and a low-key argument that could go on and on and on: there are a number of reasons why this could just be the greatest dive watch ever made (wadaya mean, 'Grand Seiko'.
