Luxury watch buyers and watch collectors join Tim Mosso for a far-ranging discussion of premier luxury watch brands and news. Show topics include Rolex, Omega watches, Audemars Piguet, and Patek Philippe watches.
We open with our usual rogues gallery of luxury watch counterfeits, scams, and D-list listings by watch sellers.
Tim focuses on a Rolex Oysterdate with a phony dial worthy of Fisher Price, a Zenith Pilot with a poorly-falsified El Primero caliber, and an Audemars Piguet that might be a Breitling… but isn’t. We discuss underrated watches from Audemars Piguet, Rolex, and Cartier. The AP Royal Oak 15450 mid-size is an absolute bargain and a best-kept secret compared to the full-size Royal Oak 15400 and its borderline oversize real-world wrist fit. The Calibre de Cartier Diver is the most underrated Cartier watch of modern times, and it may be the best watch that Cartier makes.
It’s hard to claim that any Rolex is underrated, but the Rolex Explorer 2 216570 is an exception; it looks great, sells at a discount when pre-owned, and rarely appears in the office environment. Finally, the Vacheron Constantin Quai de l’ille in stainless steel deserves more love than it receives; how else can you buy watches blazon with the Geneva Hallmark for 10-11,000 U.S.?
Tim tackles the Omega Speedmaster Ultraman, also known as the Speedy Tuesday 2. Has Omega overextended its latest limited edition of the Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, or is the second Speedy Tuesday twice as nice? We discuss collecting watches from sequels to limited editions. The Panerai Luminor Bronzo PAM 382, PAM 507, and PAM 671 receive scrutiny.
From Rolex, the pair of “Green Submariners” receive Tim’s seal of approval; both the Rolex 16610LV “Kermit” and the 116610LV “Hulk” are stunning and worthy watches.
But TAG Heuer’s limited edition “Heuer” Steve McQueen Monacos are not created equal; Tim discusses why the TAG Heuer Monaco 40th Anniversary CAW211A is the modern Steve McQueen watch to own.
Finally, the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1P-001 and the original platinum Nautilus, the 5711/1A-010, run the gauntlet; Tim loves the Nautilus 5711/1P-010 from 2011-2015, but the 40th anniversary Patek Philippe Nautilus is 700 pieces too many for Tim’s taste. We conclude the program with wrist shots of our watch collector friends from far-and-wide. This is Watches Tonight!
