One of the greatest songs of all time! No lie, and Billy Paul just brought it all together with his vocals. This song in the 70s was off the charts and it’s still great all these years later. I also saw Billy Paul in person do this song in a nightclub in Boston in 1973, that was sensational… It was a birthday present from a dear friend and is this song takes a hold of you… multiple standing ovations

A legendary song, so smooth and mellow. The nature of the relationship is that both are cheating on someone, but like the song says, "We got a thing goin' on We both know that it's wrong But it's much too strong To let it go now". Songs like this, and "Year of the cat" 🐱 are why I'm still stuck in the 70's, it was a great decade for creativity in music. For the falsetto lover in you, Earth, Wind & Fire "Head to the sky" and for horn section fans Tower of Power "Your still a young man". Thank you! Peace! ☮

You two would have loved the '70s, it's a great song and there were plenty of ones like that during that decade. I suggest that you check out 'The Chi-Lites' (pronounced Shy-lights) two of their songs in particular, 'Have You Seen Her' and 'It's Time For Love', for a faster more dance type of track by them, please check out 'You Don't Have To Go'.

1:22 melody snippet from "once I had a secret love.." The writers/producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff say that the song was based on a real experience. There was a restaurant across from their recording studio in Philly where they would take their dinner breaks. And every day they'd see this couple meeting at one of the booths. They'd come in separately and leave separately.

Oh, I loved this song back in '72! The production, the vocals, the whole atmosphere is electric. They HAD to know they had a hit on their hands and indeed, this song went to Number One. Again, I was eleven so too young to really understand, but the song has such a longing and an emotion, that even when you can't put your finger on it, it still moves you. Give "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" by Roberta Flack (also from '72) a listen. That one will hot you hard.
