Billy Paul is my homeboy from Philly. He used to work security at Strawbridge & Clothier Dept. Store with my big brother. The hat he’s wearing on the album cover was made by my high school friend and classmate Betty Leacraft. He is in the TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia) stable!

Not too often you hear a love song like this about an affair from the perspective of the person doing the cheating. This song has so much sauce, love it! I didn't hear it til I was older either. More Philly Soul artists/songs to check out are Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes "If You Don't Know Me By Now" and The Spinners "I'll Be Around" ✌️❤️

Timeless Classic. The song was covered by The Dramatics who like Billy Paul also have an amazing discography that you should check out. Although The Dramatics SANG TF out of it, nothing will ever touch the original by Mr Billy Paul 🔥🔥🔥

Although this has a jazzy feel it is old Philladelphia soul music - proper soul music from my teenage years. That "feeling" it is called "Soul"

God, how I love this song. Although this song came out in the very early 70's, I'm so happy I was born in 1952. The timing allowed me to be alive during the great hits of Motown, which made me appreciate the songs from Billy Paul..

Bringing back memories. Straight up, senior year of high school got a friend's band to learn this song and sang it with them for the senior class talent show back in the early 1990s. There was a Mrs. Jones in my high school known as the hot teacher. I never had a class with her. She was just known as the hot teacher in our school. But the teachers in charge of the show said we could do it ONLY if we were good and not ashamed to say we were good with that song. No others, just this one. We won, and I gave the guys all the $200 prize money. They blew it on beer that weekend. Shoot. I'm gonna play it again since I was typing while listening.

This song is PERFECTION.....Billy Paul's singing talent, style and musicianship is so exhilarating...and the brilliant orchestration of this song...the sax...the lush strings....this recording is a full on MASTERPIECE..and sounds just as phenomenal now as when it was released 50 years ago....and to see the Twins appreciating and loving this song...is special...thank you

Fun Fact: his real name was Paul Williams but there was already a Paul Williams at that time with The Temptations so he reversed it and made his first name his last name and his last name his first name because Billy is short for William!

I was in the 3rd grade when this came out and there was a couple with the last name Jones on our block. My mother heard me singing this and told me "I better not ever hear you sing this song again". Always on my Playlist

I’m almost 50 years old and this took me waaayyy back! Although it’s about two people having an affair, strangely I’ve always considered it one of the ROMANTIC songs I’ve ever heard. Two people who, for whatever reason, cannot walk away from one another. I can feel every word! 🥹
