I think a lot of people have that impression because there are ads that say owner/operators can easily make $100k+ in a year, especially if they're OTR or have any specialty ratings. However, they fail to mention the amount they're paid for the job has to cover fuel, maintenance, insurance, food, etc. After all expenses are paid, most truckers still take home a decent living, but definitely not what I'd call "a lot."

@@xtina818 I think it would have been safe for the loaded trucker to assume the minivan would have either slowed for faster moving traffic or gassed it since they were ones merging but they did neither - The truck driver could have slowed some in anticipation for the other driver merging poorly like they ultimately did but I'd still fault the Chrysler Pacifica driver 100%, they should be ticketed as well.

I was thinking something similar in many of the clips. "Going too fast! Slow down. Slow down! Slow down, you... too late!" I've been guilty of going a bit too fast in bad conditions once, but saved by cruise control. Torrential downpour with visibility around 4 car lengths ahead. 80KpH in a 110KpH zone. Turn cruise control on... two seconds later it drops out due to detecting loss of traction. Let speed drop to 75KpH before turning cruise control on again, and it held since traction was okay at that speed. Reach next town... rain stops, completely.

At out speed limit of 90kph it takes 70-100metres to come to a stop safely. A car is 4-5m long. Rarely more than 2ton. At 100kph it takes 20 or so metres to stop. Do the math. Wish trucks had the luxury of maneuverability like cars do. But they don't. And it will still be a truckies fault. Most truck haters forget we were car drivers before getting truck licenses.
