I grew up in the 60s - I'm 71 now - and believe me when I tell you that every girl just fell totally in love with Bobby when he sang this classic. Their hearts melted and they turned into jelly. This was on the Andy Williams show in 1965 and many consider it to be one of the greatest live performances ever. He didn't miss a note

His parents were in the audience and he was a little nervous ... that lip-bite and grin at the end was when he knew he had nailed it. No one has song this song better than the late great 'Bobby Hatfield' of the 'Righteous Brothers' as he did back in 1965 on the 'Andy Williams Show.' This (Live) television performance was one for the ages. Many in the music industry called it the best live television performance ever. The Andy Williams Orchestra and its String Section were to die for. They along with the incomparable voice of Bobby Hatfield made this version of "Unchained Melody" composed by Alex North with Lyrics by Hy Zaret (1955) the best of them all. It has Become the quintessential version of them all.

I wish some of today's artists would take time and train their voices, and sing some well-written songs in this manner. There are people who have the talent, but it seems like everyone wants to rush to get their next video out instead of recording fewer, but great songs that will stand the test of time. Bobby sang this song for the rest of his career, and people still listen now. I don't get why today's artists are not paying attention to these facts. I don't remember the songs from one year to the next.

I sang this to my wife at our wedding in 1983. She, however she said I murdered it. I'm guessing it's not a song for a baritone, she told me I was of better sticking to my drumming. I thought it was an appropriate song as I was in the British Royal Marine Commandos, I had returned from the war for the Falkland Islands when I proposed, and now was shipping out to Sierra Leone two days later, so much for my attempt at being romantic. On the upside she liked me in my Dress Uniform, and having my comrades forming the sword tunnel helped. I must have done something right because we're still together. With 4 children and 7 grandchildren. I served my Queen and Country for 37 years as a Royal Marine Commandos and British Special Forces, with just over 2 years in hospital before being invalided out, and she stuck by me even though I'm wheelchair bound now. We do actually have a song by Queen called "Your Me Best Friend", a very apt song as she has been my best friend since we were both 15. We just celebrated our 38th wedding anniversary with our family, and with the help of our 2 sons and oldest grandson I was able to dance with my wife to this again. And yes, according to the Boss I murdered it, but we're still together since I first asked her out in 1979 which shows I picked the right girl.

Great story very happy for you and your family. Sorry to hear about your medical situation but I know you don't want nor would accept any sympathy as I'm sure you would do it again. I was stationed at RAF Upper Heyford from 80-83 I remember the Falkland Islands War well. As a fellow military I was so proud of the lads shipping off to war. I had no doubt how it would turn out. I also remember the Royal Wedding no one does pomp and circumstance better that the British. Loved watching darts on TV, I liked Eric Bristow and Jockey Wilson. Snooker, I liked Steve Davis and Alex Higgins. Oh the good old days. Cheers mate.

@@briangulley6027 Those names are a blast from the past mate, careful you're making us sound old :). My Owner aka Wife didn't no I existed until I stopped her brother being bullied at our school, for me I noticed her the first time I saw her. Luckily I have older brother's who helped me impress her on our second date at the Hammersmith Odeon to see Queen in 1979. The next time I saw two of those brother's was in Port Stanley in 82. They were both in 45 Commando, we followed in our Father's foot steps into the RMC, we've always referred to it as the Family business. I was sitting on a pavement having my feet dressed by a medic while a 12 year old girl told me all about her favourite books, and of course the lads coughed up all the chocolate we had for the kids. My brother's sat down beside me and we smoked a couple of cigs as the handed over their chocolate to my new friend. While we chatted my brother elbowed my ribs, and I felt a tearing pain. The medic checked it and as it turned out I'd received a glancing bullet wound which fractured two ribs. When my brothers heard the medic say I'd been shot they started laughing at the fact I'd lost my wounding virginity, we were laughing so much my ribs hurt more than the bullet, typical family. And the little girl still lives on the Falkland's, all grown up with a family of her own. I've been down there twice since and seen her and her family, and we write to each other a few times a year. My wife call's her our adopted sister, that little girl, now woman proved to me in one conversation that the sacrifice and action taken to retake British Sovereign Territory nearly 40 years ago was the only and correct course of action. I have no regret's my friend, nor any time or reason for self pity. I look at my family and my blessing having them out weigh anything that is a negative in the now. I have 3 granddaughter's who regularly do my make up so I feel pretty, the older girls look at me and tut a lot. And I get to be teased for being the biggest technical idiot by my grandson's. And every day I get to look at the girl I fell for over 42 years ago, and count what we have as the best life I could have ever had. I love My Queen, my Country, my family and the people who have come into my life. The good old days haven't gone yet, you take care mate, and raise a glass to the people we love.
