Walking Downtown Portland beginning at Pioneer Place Mall then to 12th and Burnside, and then towards the Waterfront to the Saturday Market.
There are have been changes in downtown since my last upload of downtown in April 2023: the Target has announced a permanently closure on the 21st, the Ritz Carlton is nearly complete and set to open on the 31st, a Shake Shack has opened up on 10th and Burnside, the food carts on 5th and Oak have been rearranged into the Midtown Beer Garden, and the Washington Center building on 5th and Washington has been boarded up.
Video was recorded on the 13th and 14th of October. It is two different days combined into one walk.
0:00 Pioneer Place Mall and Square
10:30 Morrison St
14:00 Target
15:12 Ritz Carlton
17:50 10th Ave
19:35 Shake Shack

24:10 Burnside
29:10 Midtown Beer Garden

It feels lonely because all the business and successful people left becuse they had no incentive to stay. It's a boring, barren city that's plagued by open air hard drug use, homeless camps and backwards policies. It's been in a downward spiral for years. Anyone with any potential jumped ship and didn't look back or they are currently jumping ship. I visit every so often out of obligation to family and every year it gets worse. It's sad but the residents only have themselves and their elected officials to blame.

I live and work downtown, and you are right, there is homelessness and drug use, and human suffering. Not going to sugar coat it. However it is very possible to walk around for quite a while and avoid all of that entirely as it’s mostly concentrated in a few small areas (usually around shelters and aid centers). Most of the city is beautiful.

I have family that moved there. Its basically a ghost city hosting a vast homeless camp, with the occasional hipster obnoxiously making bogus claims about its non existant redeeming qualities- like "its a foodie town" -* no, your food sucks and you have a handful of food carts that are decent. "Its an art community!"- *No, its a homeless community with a handful of decent artists living nearby. "Its chill!" - *No, its dead (pokes it with a stick) see? " Its weird" - *No, its just sad and lacks structure and a functioning local government

@@mileswilliams4356 I actually have. Many times. Some family members unfortunately chose to move there bc they like crystals and shit. The only good thing about Portland is its proximity to Mt. Hood, and even then I'd rather be in the 2 block town of Sandy and closer to Hood. You obviously haven't been anywhere but Portland "Lil bro"- it has terrible food compared to other cities. Even cities in Idaho had better food. Portland THINKS they have good food. Thats why they dont improve. They are dillusional. They have very high opinions of themselves in general, that are based in absolute fantasy. Portland is 100% garbage. It's a trash ass city with trash people and trash food. Explore the world a bit little fella then come back and reassess your claim. They have good beer, good coffee and good weed. If you think Portland has good food you simply have no taste and no experience with food.

It is unfortunate that urban problems and urban decay can be reduced to a simplistic political cause. You could then draw the conclusion that the problems can all be solved by just changing political affiliation, which of course, is not true either. There is the same problems in many states, regardless of the politics involved. Life is just not that simple.

The problem is not democrats, the problem is that American cities are built with many homes in the city centers, and all over, which causes lack of affordable housing, the need for a car, and 80% of homeless are that way because they couldn't afford rent. European cities don't have that problem because they are actually planned cities. And, hello from over here in Lille France, I am an American living in northern France.

For native Oregonians, this is heartbreaking. Portland has never looked worse. It's depressing to see a downtown so run-down and filthy. What was once a beautiful city has been destroyed by a Democrat run political system. Locals and tourists are afraid of the homeless and drug addicts that have taken over the streets.
