To all those wondering why Grace didn't get the job, it was because Grace herself said that she didn't want to be considered for it. There was an additional scene shown when it was first aired in 2012 that has been cut from this episode in which this happens. This scene takes place after Victoria says she's leaving and in it Thelma discusses the job with the remaining girls on a 1 to 1 basis to see whether they have any plans to travel that would mean they can't do it. When it's Grace's turn she thanks Thelma, but says she doesn't want to be considered for the job as she's happy with all the skills she's learnt from the course.

Thank you for this comment, I didn't know and was completely in the wrong direction with my thoughts, as I thought it was because she was a woman that could easily start her own career, and Thelma wanted to make sure as much girls/woman as possible would be able to be working instead of going back to what they knew..

When she cried for going up two years on her reading, it was sad. You can tell it means a lot to these women who never got a huge chance to go to school. Who clean and cook, look after children from 16 if not earlier. I'm proud of these young women for breaking the social norms. A lot of there men would not have liked this. They went anyway.. its changing slowly but surely in the traveler community. Don't understand the hate fro them. I'm an English girl, not a traveller atall. And I can see how theses young girls don't get the same opportunity as me, not with the gypsy social norms.

In the U.S. they have gypsy's here too. Their culture is practiced traditionally here as well. Many of them marry young, have lots of kids. Some go to school and many don't go to school as well. But alot of them live in homes not trailers/caravans.

In another thread here, someone explained that Grace had privately asked Thelma not to consider her, since she didn't want the job but was happy with the skills she'd gained. I think the impression was that with her entrepreneurial skills, she would prefer to go into business for herself. Which, if it worked out for her would be a great outcome. Hopefully all the girls benefited in some way from the opportunity Thelma gave them to develop themselves, not just the girls that were picked to work for her..

A follow up on these young ladies would be so nice. I know that all of us because invested in these ladies and their future. To not be allowed to finish school is so very sad. It seems to me that it froze them in a much younger age than their years. School is more than just books, it's also about life lessons and skills, for some that's easy and for others much harder. I hope that they have all gone on to learn more and not fallen back into taking care of everyone else. All women deserve to shine in the world at least once in their lives.

I have this battle with my husband. He does not like gypsies and even after watching a documentary about a man who lived with travelers for 60 days he felt it was very set up and only believed the badly behaved ones, not the ones who were nice, honest people. He does have a horror story though which is the reason. He was jumped by a group of 6 gypsy lads from a near by travelers site. He was walking his little brother through the park after school (he was 16 at the time) and they jumped out on him. Completely unprovoked - he was a big lad (already well over 6ft even that young) and I've seen it before. Some people see a big guy and want to fight them to brag or whatever. They kicked his head so badly he has three metal plates in his face. Fortunately his little brother was able to run away and get help. He has since hired a gypsy but I don't think he would have hired her had he known that at interview stage.

I’m from the UK but grew up in New Zealand and we don’t really have travellers here. The only time I’ve ever heard of travellers here was when a family of tourists from the UK got deported. Well anyway, after watching these Gypsy wedding videos I was curious about what kind of work they do when they’re always travelling so I asked my dad if he knew. He told me they pave driveways but they do a bad job and then they skip town before anyone can get their money back. He never said anything right out hateful but his views were obviously very negative towards them. Him and my gran then went on to have a short conversation about all the bad things travellers have done. It was sad to see that they only thought about the bad things and applied it to all travellers. I didn’t realise it was an offensive word at the time but my gran also said that in Scotland they’re called pikes and was calling them that the whole conversation. I don’t think she realised it was an offensive word that and just thought that’s what they’re called in Scotland.

I was kind of hoping she would also choose Grace to stay and compete for the job in the 3 month trial. Grace was moving from the caravan into a permanent tradional built home, busted her butt every day, never caused drama or problems for Thelma, often acted as the person to calm or stop the fights or convince the unruly out of turn ones to stop those behaviors there as it was not conducive to a professional work environment, Explained and backed up Thelma's rules and expectations of the girls as well as made them realize her choice to help elevate them if it fails could cost her her ability to support her family and employees close her buisness lose her home and all she worked so hard for over the years would be gone, Grace meshed well with all Thelma's staff and tutors, never missed a day, was consistently learning and improving her skills and education, had talent, and did this all basically as a single mother of 2 young boys since her husband is away full time working out of town. I hoped all those reasons and more would earn her a spot or a last 3 month shot at a spot. 😥😔 🥺😭😭

It's mind boggling how they are supposed to be kept and proper when it comes to the interactions with boys, but the way they dress, their mouths, the way they let men treat them, but how they react at the museum is hilarious lol. Their whole culture is a contradiction of itself. Also can not believe the way they were allowed to lean on things and act in that museum 🤦‍♀
@silverkitty2503

Firstly our culture is contradictory we look at girls dressed like that and act scandalized but look at genitalia in museums without issues and speak about sex easily but shorts skirts no?? All culture is contradictory. Secondly things on reality tv are often for tv.

I am not from this country and where I am from we don't know what travellers are. So when I got here I was told a load of stuff about how terrible travellers were. 14 years later and I have never met a traveller that was that bad! I have met plenty of travellers who were helpful, decent and have manners. In fact I found that some of the general public are more rude, nasty, lack manners and are generally worse behaved

I wish them all every success and happiness in their future. Racism is an ugly and useless thing. It should never be tolerated. Travellers are exactly the same as anyone else. We all deserve respect.

I don't want to take away anything from the girls who got a spot but I was really hoping that Grace would get picked. Thinking back, I'm pretty sure she was the only one who didn't cause problems or get into fights. She has kids as well, so I was kinda hoping this job would give her options should thing's not work out with her husband. I remember she said something about how she liked having money of her own and how it made her feel more secure. She does have a more pleasant personality than the rest of the girls and so hopefully with this experience, plus the extra schooling, she might be able to get another job if she wants to. A part of me was very surprised that Thelma didn't pick Margaret. She was an absolute pill the entire time but also seemed to be one of Thelma's favorites. I really hope for Thelma's sake that this works out for her and she continues to be so successful. She has such a good heart and deserves all the best.

I thought that Grace and LeAnn would be at least one of the ones picked. Grace needs it more because she’s a mom and family bread winner. I have to admit that I’ve only watched the last 2 pieces of this series. Thelma, what you’ve done is to give young girls a chance-girls who normally would never have a chance-and I admire you! To say that you could only afford 2 of the girls and then pick 3 girls too show you that one of them has what it takes to be number 2, was a decision made by your heart, not by your wisdom as a business woman. I wish you success with future employment of travelers-you deserve it and so do they! God bless you for your patience!

I loved this show! I was a little surprised by who Thelma picked.. I get that she chose young girls bc they’re young and maybe can be taught more and molded easier but honestly the two older (at least older looking, sorry) ladies were literally so unproblematic and I thought they learned and did the job as well as any of the rest of them.. but regardless I know that as long as the girls show up, Thelma will always do right by them and she will guide them, love them, and even protect them. When she gave that girl the watch I teared up, you can tell that’s just the kind of person she is. That was so kind. I hope they filmed more seasons or something, with other girls or whatever, I loved this! You rock Thelma❤️

Kathleen makes my heart break. She is so worthy of being happy and confident. She shows so much potential and I wish Thelma would take her in and give her the chance she deserves. That bolshy attitude would drop and give her the chance to glow in life❤️ I know this is all for a TV program but some of them needed to be sacked in the first episode. I spent my teens at the traveler site with my best friend and I never witnessed that amount of cheek and bad language from the girl's. These girls being scandalised over the word penis makes me laugh considering the behaviour and words they use but it's there rule's and they don't care about country people's feelings sadly
