The Polygon trilogy had so much wasted potential. Like, each movie has at least one amazing idea that could have been expanded on. Godzilla becoming the apex lifeform so the earth has to adapt to him. A city finally fighting back against Godzilla because of Mechagodzilla city. Lovecraftian Ghidorah was such a good idea that they revisited a similar premise for Singular Point (Which I enjoyed, but totally understand why some people don’t.) But what we got was just a collection of bad anime tropes and multiple laughably bad attempts at being deep and mature.

The lying in debates thing is very annoying. I had someone try to convince people that the MV didn’t use mocap for its SFX and the sad thing is it worked on some people. The debate was about whether MV Godzilla is a “real” Godzilla. My opponent said that since the MV doesn’t use suits they don’t count, but Shin uses mocap so it counts. They just straight up lied about MV not using mocap. Like you said, if you have to lie to defend a point is the point worth defending?

That person just contradicted themselves, showed their hypocrisy and their own double standards if they accept shin for using mocap but outright deny legendary of using mocap despite there's evidence of legendary using mocap for their films except gvk. That person had no argument, they were likely just another toho purist who only accepted what toho did with shin because it's toho but when any other studio does it first or afterwards with grade A cgi, it's automatically bad. It makes me wonder why some "fans" are so close minded to the idea of godzilla being used by different countries and companies when toho always wanted godzilla to branch out of Japan and were interested in godzilla being used by Hollywood as early as 1983. Having the mindset of *Godzilla should only be handled by the Japanese* is like saying *Godzilla fans must only be Japanese, if you aren't Japanese, you aren't a true fan*

Even as an atheist who sees at least some religions as harmful cults promoted by power hungry charlatans, the whole anti-religion message of the 3rd film felt incredibly shallow and I rolled my eyes when I heard it. It wouldn't be so bad if it was at least consistent throughout the plot with Mephitus' whole Ghidorah clut, but Mothra and her people are an example of a good religion and it's not presented as though Mephitus or even anyone else who says religion is just propaganda are simply mistaken in their beliefs. No, it's just a straight contradiction that feels like the writer just wanted to show their opinion of religion into the story without it actually meaning anything narrativlly speaking. The irony is that Godzilla King of the Monsters has loads of religious/mythological undertones throughout the film and I love it for that because of how well intrigued into the story and how portraying the kaiju as living gods feels very fitting for the franchise as a whole.

I'm always baffled when people decide to go to bat for something and insist, not that while it may have flaws that there are some things they like about it, or perhaps that they like it despite it's flaws. Instead they argue that there are in fact no flaws and that you are bad in some way for taking issue with whatever they are defending. The polygon trilogy has a lot of problems Pointing them out isn't a bad thing. on a similar note I've noticed a lot of people defending the Godzilla series in general with takes that effectively come down to "Well it was always bad so this is fine." Like I was under the impression that we liked Godzilla and wanted it to prosper pointing out flaws and giving criticism isn't the same as making excuses for something and claiming that standards don't matter. Seriously I feel like I'm losing my mind in these conversations sometimes.

Victor Hugo's The Hunchback of Notre Dame could be considered anti-religion, with it's subject material, though it maybe more anti-church. I think Gen Urobuchi did the anti-religion message a little better in the final few episodes of Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet. But in terms of movies I think 'When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth' from 1970 is a better Anti-religion movie, I mean really think about it, the whole plot of the movie is about a blonde girl trying to escape from her radical tribe who wants to sacrifice her, then said tribe goes to another tribe and flat out converts them to their religion. The movie visually shows how religion could build a community and unite people, while showing how it could also corrupt and make them commit horrendous acts. Woah! Did I just say that a movie from the 1970s with mute cavegirls in skimpy bikinis and stop motion dinosaurs provided a better anti-religion message than a trilogy of films made in the late 2010s? Perhaps I'm wrong, what do you think?

I'm a religious guy myself, and while I'm no lover or ardent defender of the Anime trilogy(or even much of a defender at all outside of "it tried some interesting things and ultimately was a swing and a miss").....I don't know if a film calling "A" religion bad, especially a fictional death cult religion....is necessarily the film calling "ALL" religion bad. I have not referenced the dialogue specifically, but even still....one particular character, a scientist in particular whose major experience with religion is a death cult....having an "anti-religious" perspective doesn't necessarily make me feel like the movie as a whole is operating as some staunch opposer of any and all religion. It is certainly a pronged point being made, but I'm not sure if it is meant to be the entire thesis of the film. Especially since we are being shown a very fictional setting with very extreme circumstances....it didn't necessarily feel like a "forced agenda" to me. Although I haven't watched it in a good long while...so there is a chance that if I saw that specific dialogue scene again, it might rub me a little worse than it did a few years ago, when my own walk in faith wasn't nearly as progressed as it is now. But generally, I think the anime trilogy has much more basic and fundamental issues holding it back beyond some anti-religious sentiment. I'm comfortable enough with my own faith that such jargon, especially in a very outlandish context like this, doesn't really get a rise out of me. Certainly nothing compared to the "stereotypical Bible waiving Christian extremist" that many Hollywood productions like to force in over and over.

Hello Omni Viewer, your probably already over on this though as you said at the end but I like to share my opinion on this film subject as well. I hope you take the time to read this on your free time because there a huge contradiction on the film lesson which I have to bring up that no one discussed. If you take the time to read this whole comment you have my thanks for taking time to reading this. I'll continued to watch your program related to kaiju or any similar media we both share on your channel. I'm know, I'm late in this discussion and I have finished your video on your though. I like to throw in my honest thought on the subject too but I'm not defending the person on excuses nor am I saying this film isn't "anti-religious" coming from a religious man like myself quite the opposite. What my thoughts on this is simply that this film is a terrible executed take on a anti-religious message. How well simply their are two religious group. The one we mainly focus on is Exifs more importantly Metphies alien religious zealots being the film and series focus on this main religious factors that we as an audience categorize as every zealot religious group, even though there factors goes into a more Occult groups category. But the film is deeming them as film message of why organize religion is foolish from critical and political aspect in society. You even said that Dr.Martin was this film and writer mouthpieces to give clear to that message, however I like to re-iterate why this anti-religious message was poorly executed. Because As i said their two religious groups and one that Dr.Martin and the film seem to make an exception to the rule. '"Who' you asked ?" said no one. Why the Houtua tribes. That who. Even though they aren't zealot tribes but they have a religion based around the protection of Mothra and from the fear of Godzilla Earth. Yet we forget they are religious just more primal way than factors class. Even when Metphies plan is expose who do martin and Maina turn to for help to get through Haruo under Metphies Trace and who intervene in the dream state that right! Mothra! the Houtua tribes deity. Even martin is rooting for Godzilla Earth to fight against this noodlehead Lovecraftian Ghidorah. And after Haruo suicide sacrifice himself to Godzilla Earth to be destroy to purge humanity's past hatred, The Houtua tribes now made traditional ritual based around Haruo's Sacrifice. my point being for an anti-religious message film it seem to favor one side over the other. My Stance is similar LINKARA AT4W"Superman at World's ends" review where that comic stance was "You can't have an anti-gun message when you clearly had gun solve the problem. My saying is simply that "You can't have an anti-religious message when clearly their one of the religion that help solve the conflict." Now normally you can argue that Mothra didn't solve the problem it was Houtua own willed to fight against Metphies own influence that help severs Ghidorah ties to earth dimension. But it was thanks to interventions from Mothra, Maina and Martin that help Haruo get the clues to stop Ghidorah from consuming planet earth. if the going to go through with it having an anti-religious message then Houtua tribes should not have work and their following and worshipping Mothra should have been a farces when Mothra egg was dead, the only Houtua tribes telepathic influences was from mankind own self state of evolution or adaption of their new environment. no divine intervention from Mothra what's so ever. That would help its anti-religious message. But no, it actually favors the Houtua tribes even the surviving remaining human integrate into the Houtua tribes, If it was for Haruo action Dr.Martin would have restart humanity advance technology from the remain of the Vulture mech using the Nanometal made by the Bilusaludo alien bring back mankind struggle to fight against Godzilla Earth Possibly bring back Ghidorah(If we going by Metphies message from Haruo head). The films fails at its anti religious message is what I'm trying to say. Thank you for taking time to read this critique rant or opinion. I know my paragraph is pretty much to simplistic, I've also want to apologies for any spelling errors, grammars and bad paragraphs. I promises I'll do a better job on the next discussion with a better though out critique.
@omniviewer2115
@omniviewer2115 Жыл бұрын
I've actually spoken about that aspect before, but from a slightly different angle. You're absolutely correct in pointing out that the Houtua have a positive religion even though the movie speaks against religion. In the second movie, the Houtua use technology - the nanometal specifically - and are allowed to even though the movie speaks against technology (which carries over into the third film). It seems that whatever the movies say, the Houtua always do the opposite. This makes the movies self-contradictory. They literally say one thing and do another. Time is devoted to soapboxing dialogue written in such a way that it's clearly meant to be the thematic takeaway, and yet we have an element that contrasts starkly with those themes. Given how much the Trilogy loves to hear itself talk, I think it's worth noting that it never verbalizes the contradictions or attempts to rationalize them. Hence, we end up with the "you can't be anti-gun when guns are the solution" problem. How did this happen? My guess is that it was a combination of a lack of time to flesh out the scripts combined with certain Toho mandates (most likely the demand that Mothra had to be present somehow). So yes, the movies absolutely fail in proving the messages they blatantly spell out. A very well thought out response. Thank you for sharing it.

I'm not sure it's a lie, exactly: Mephtius was basically using some basic religious and theistic forms to trick people into doing what he wanted, and his own religious goals were nihilistic in the extreme. He's the embodiment of the secular Dr. Martin's casual complaints (with the Mothra cult being a different form of those complaints -- specifically what Dr. Martin has in mind and in view 20 minutes into Film 3). Also, when Mephtius starts spelling out his actual beliefs toward the end, he isn't exactly a fan of positive religion per se either. So I could understand someone mis-remembering Mephtius as the source of Dr. Martin's more mundane declaration: Mephtius is a lot more flashy (in several ways), and he's the chief in-story example of how religious belief, whether sincerely believed or not (or both in his case), ruins everything. That doesn't make the trilogy good, of course. Not by a long shot. Nor would being pro-religious make this trilogy good.

You talked about the first amendment, & those books being just fine as is, yet somehow ignored DeSantis flat out yanking books HE declared unfit for Florida classrooms, offering non stances like oh its a parents thing, none of an authors buisness etc. And no, im not saying you refused to engage with just me, you refused several opportunities to explain the blatant double standard we noticed. Go ahead, take a look at what you answered & what was ignored. Its breathtaking considering you claim to be a follower or the word, & the word spells out whats right, & whats wrong. "Scan over your comment sections from a few months back, where you were "supposedly " upset about new owners of books you happen to like, changing the contents into something more acceptable to a wider audience." I'm going to start here because you misrepresent me. You say I was supposedly upset, implying that my videos on these matters were a performative act and not a genuine expression of my anger at the situation. You indirect accusation is false. I was genuinely upset by those developments, and still am. Now, why would you want to claim that I am being disingenuous in a matter where you are hoping to prove that I was on the wrong side of a particular argument? Remember, one should not bear false witness. "You talked about the first amendment, & those books being just fine as is, yet somehow ignored DeSantis flat out yanking books HE declared unfit for Florida classrooms, offering non stances like oh its a parents thing, none of an authors buisness etc." Interestingly, I looked back over my responses and the video itself, and I do say that I think people need to have discerning eyes in this matter. However, one must also have a discerning eye when looking at why certain books are removed from school curriculums, as well as what actually constitutes a banned book. Most books reported as "banned" by the news are actually just "challenged", meaning they are under review and not necessarily exempt from being reinstated. Moreover, the content which does tend to get banned is only banned from elementary school libraries/curriculum. They are not being altered by the publishing houses or stricken from book vendors entirely, unlike the works of Roald Dahl, Ian Fleming, RL Stine, et al. Why do these books get taken out of elementary schools? Because they contain sexually graphic content which is inappropriate for children in elementary school. There is more than enough evidence from all over the country to demonstrate this. That is very different from altering a children's book because it says a fat kid is fat. In fact, showing sexually graphic content to children is illegal and considered perverse by most rational people. It's also not protected by the First Amendment. Ergo, conflating the altering of books at the source for mild terminologies to removing pornographic material from classrooms even as it remains available and unaltered everywhere else is a false equivalency. As such, I see no reason to entertain the comparison any further. Remember, one should not bear false witness. "And no, im not saying you refused to engage with just me, you refused several opportunities to explain the blatant double standard we noticed. Go ahead, take a look at what you answered & what was ignored." That's funny, because looking back at your responses to the comments in question, you admit outright to not even reading my whole response. You chose not to read everything I wrote, and yet you still speak as though you know exactly what my real thoughts and true intentions are. Remember, one should not bear false witness. Why do you bring all of this up here? To claim that I am as guilty of deceit as the person I describe in the video. How do you demonstrate your point? Through deceit, which you call fair. In light of this, I see no reason whatsoever to discuss this matter any further. Exodus 23:1: "You shall not spread a false report. You shall not join hands with a wicked man to be a malicious witness."
