As much as I hate to borrow from Jerry Maguire movie, but, you already had me with your fandom and THEN the intro "Raise your can of beer on high": The Golden Age of Leather is my favorite BOC song nobody knows about (except true fans of course)! Spectres is my favorite album with the other great song I Love the Night which is shockingly not more well known, either, like Golden Age of Leather; and of course, Godzilla is on Spectres. R U Ready to Rock? Yes, I am! On with the show! Great video Omni Viewer ... from 4 years ago? I obviously wish I'd seen this sooner

The comic book Crossed is something I consider splatterpunk. I don't know if it's still going on, but it's had a number of creative teams, each focusing on their own arcs with different characters. Gory to the max, and TWs for just about everything. The webcomic Wish You Were Here is a good one.

I haven't read the book yet, but this seems well argued. I don't think the Behemoth as Sauropod dinosaur idea holds much water compared to Behemoth as elephant. It's been a while since I looked into that, so I could be wrong but any interpretation that doesn't include a trunk (with which to bring up food and drink) and tusks seems to be willfully ignoring clues (I'd be willing to concede on Dougherty's KOTM Behemoth as being a possible interpretation if he were white and scaly not brown and hairy). The description in the Bible always comes off to me as either a really poetic but valid depiction of an elephant or this weird super Dino do not steal OC that can do anything (where are the tusks, and why would God build two kaiju, kill one and let his favorite go extinct?) I think we forget this because classically, God is capable of anything, but the elephant is a darn impressive animal and, outside of the dinosaurs, would be the coolest one He ever made. (As for Leviathan, I'm cautious with any idea about it. If it's a crocodile, it would have to have been discovered by man at the same as hallucinogenic drugs. But I also just look at the idea of a God of the Heavens fighting a sea serpent, in this case feeding it to early humans, as a really common trope in contemporary and earlier/later religions to where that might just be shorthand for some theme I don't understand or a way to legitimize Yahweh in cross cultural discourse. Back in the day, I tried to line up Leviathan's attributes to being any Toho kaiju, and well the drawing ended up being a two headed Heisei Godzilla, so there's that. I'm not really in any camp for Leviathan at the moment)

(1:48) Im sure that movie is going to do well, even if it dose gets bad reviews im pretty certain that people are going to go see it regardless (its one of if not the most anticipated movie of the year to most people). 🍿📽🤔⚔🔫 (8:09) Thats another thing, people tend to neglect physical media lately. Granted I know why obviously a part of that is the convince of streaming services but on the other hand you wont have to worry about studios changing or taking down the movies (or shows) completely and never be able to watch it again. Im really glad that "Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire" is doing very well with DVD and Blu Rey sales. Physical media for the win baby! 📼✊😁✊💿

2:26 King Kong, the granddad of all movie kaiju, is technically just an ape. I saw the 1956 film version of Moby Dick many, many years ago and there's one line I always remembered (well, besides "From Hell's Heart" etc.): "If God wanted to be a fish, He'd be a whale."

This is a good place to mention that my brother has a Readers Digest coffee table book somewhere, with the topic of Biblical history contexts, and somewhere in it -- I used to have the photo (and sent it to a guy who studies reports of historical dinosaurs once upon a time) -- there's a good photo of a mosaic in a 4th century church of the sea dragon (usually translated whale) having spit the prophet Jonah up onto the beach. The prophet is busily walking away from what looks for all the world like a classic Plesiosaur or Loch Ness Monster style marine reptile, complete with two waterspouts coming out the nostrils on top of his head... falling forward, as modern reconstruction of fossil skull mechanics suggested many centuries later, not backward as with whales.

The thought of that never even crossed my mind. I have heard the description of the Leviathan before and even I find it unnerving. Because this was a creature of God himself made and it sounds like he put a lot of work into it. Moby Dick also serves as an inspiration for a white whale monster I will have in the machine Dragon series. Can't really escape pop culture influencing no matter what.

I've always argued that Moby Dick (the character and his debut book) counts as a proto-kaiju tale in addition to the many, many, many giant monster tales in modern fiction that it has directly inspired. Even the whale himself appearing in official kaiju stories like Godzilla: Here Be Dragons and The King Kong Show, and . You have no complaints from my end with The Great White Whale.

"The Whale God" from Daiei with Kojiro Hongo (of Gamera fame), Shintarô Katsu (of Zatoichi fame) and Takashi Shimura. And with music from Akira Ifukube, yes, this Japanese variation of "Moby Dick" very much plays like a kaiju feature. And I do agree that "Moby Dick" CAN be considered a kaiju story.

Vintage literature! You are a man of taste. I rather liked how this novel is very ambiguous as to what exactly is going on with the whale and what it truly is. It's pretty common in Monster stories to have a supernatural element. But it is fairly rare to have the supernatural element go unclarified. Frankly I think that makes it scarier. PS: would you be interested in a commission to read and review my recent Kaiju novel?

I have a theory that may help with the plot hole, If Kaiju island is the home of all the monsters presumably there would also be a lot of fights over resources and predators that would be looking to raid nests. So Gigantron presumably would leave Kaiju island when she was about to lay the egg to keep it safe until Emmy hatched and grew up enough to have a chance on Kaiju island which her species instinctively knows how to migrate back to, sort of like a kaiju-sized version of birds rearing their young in safer resource-rich areas like the artic in summer, whales migrating to mate and give birth in the tropics, or a lioness keeping her cubs hidden from the rest of the pride until they are a few weeks old.

@@kaijubeyondbelief8053 Yeah. Exactly. A purely aquatic, mammalian kaiju. I figured a sonic power since real sperm whales could stun prey with sonar. This one could be a giant, ancient looking beast with a crooked jaw and a wrinkled brow, etc. Maybe he was awakened from his slumber for...insert reason of the day. Maybe he's destroying ships in the south pacific. Maybe he wanders a little too close to Godzilla's territory. Its rare to see kaiju fights primarily in the water.

Fun Story: I actually read Moby Dick in High School, and we were discussing what kinda stories could be related back to Herman Melville's Novel, I think someone said Godzilla and/or King Kong, and we went on a tangent about whether the creators of either monster read the novel. Knowing Merrian C. Cooper, that's actually a distinct possibility. EDIT: You made a bit of a mistake in this video. Moby Dick actually got its fame after World War 1, but the claim of it being "The Great American Novel" was after World War 2.
