When David is not running an advertising and marketing company, his hobby is The Bond Experience which is primarily a video blog where he discusses Bond experiences and the people and brands that help to create those experiences...
The mantra of living like Bond, one moment at a time emanates from a concept of experiencing the joy of collecting small moments in life that add up to amazing journeys and stories....whether it's through style, locations, literature, fitness, and the movies themselves the world of Bond is explored through its people and their stories.
Ultimately though, The Bond Experience channel is a celebration of the James Bond franchise and the many people that form a true community. Our core mission is to create a strong connection in the Bond community amongst all the fans, regardless of interest or demographic.

It’s good to see though, that the younger generation can relate to the older Bonds. And I love to see, that OHMSS gets the love it definitely deserves. Bring your niece back on a regular basis. She’s got wonderful fresh points of views . Love it

Really good to get a fresher perspective from Marissa. We've all seen the Bond movies so often that we can forget the experience of responding to them for the first time. This is probably my favorite Bond film. I can see some flaws and the occasional technical issue (the compositing of the different helicopter shots where one just disappears) and Lazenby is always going to be a very specific case in this series (with the editing possibly being another), but the film has many great strengths and it has genuine story and emotional momentum. Plus, you can't ask for a better leading lady than Rigg.
@marissamuchies18

Agreed with all you said. Riggs is a very strong bond girl, and her presence really helps the glue all the emotional pieces of the plot together.

Part of Connery interview in Playboy November 1965 PLAYBOY: In any case, ''Dr. No'' turned out to be a hit, and you found yourself under contract for a series ... exactly what you said you wanted to avoid. CONNERY: Yes ... but it allows me to make other films, and I have only two more Bonds to do. PLAYBOY: Which ones? CONNERY: ''On Her Majesty's Secret Service'' and possibly ''You Only Live Twice''. They would like to start ''On Her Majesty's Secret Service'' in Switzerland in January (1966), but I'm not sure I'll be free in time and I don't want to rush it, although they say the snow will be at its best then. I'm not going to rush anything anymore. PLAYBOY: We'll be looking forward to both films ... especially since we were fortunate enough to serialize both books exclusively prior to their hardcover publication. Do you think the success of the series will continue to snowball? CONNERY: Well, it's a healthy market and it has been maintained because each succeeding film has got bigger and the gimmicks trickier. But we have to be careful where we go next, because I think with ''Thunderball'' we've reached the limit as far as size and gimmicks are concerned. In ''Thunderball'' we have Bond underwater for about 40 percent of the time, and there is a love scene underwater, and attacks by aquaparas from the sky, and two-man submarines under the sea, and Bond is menaced by sharks. Instead of the Aston Martin we have a hydrofoil disguised as a cabin cruiser, and Bond escapes with a self-propelling jet set attached to his back. So all the gimmicks now have been done. And they are expected. What is needed now is a change of course ... more attention to character and better dialogue.

OHMSS the most overlooked Bond film. It’s really one of the best in the series, George Lazenby was a good Bond, the action scenes are incredibly, the women beautiful, the villains so menacing. Everything a Bond film should be.

I so wish I could watch The Living Daylights with Marissa and her fiancé. It was my favorite Bond movie until Casino Royale came along. OHMSS was always one I loved for the views and the feel. It was filled with sneaky Bond. And so many instances of being alone and figuring a way out. The safe cracking, driving alone in the car, escaping the cable car's engine room, skiing down the hill at night. You felt the alone time. And this movie captured the feeling of skiing very well. The silence that engulfs you when skiing alone in the trees, especially at night. Thank you Marissa for joining the discussion, I was afraid it was going to be Calvin!

Marissa is just brilliant - obviously a very knowledgeable film fan, super smart, sharp and witty - a natural! Keep these new videos with her coming! Just like when you have your kids on ( her cousins!) it’s so nice to get a brand new fresh perspective on these films that we all have seen so often that we know them all by heart. It’s especially interesting to see how much she enjoyed this one - because it’s just so different from any other entry in the series. ( then again - she loved NTTD and this is kind of its older brother!) Us Bond purists love it,of course, but many fans do not! ( my two daughters her age just have no interest in seeing this - and I’ve sure tried!) Todays audiences have really grown up with the Craig films so they are probably used to realistic drama ,serious action and real emotion - which,of course, was really not the standard for most films in the series until he came along. But I think Craig has raised an entire generation that may have an entirely different view on what a James Bond film should be. So I wonder if they ever went back to the single light hearted larger than life adventures that we all miss…... would this new young generation be disappointed? Quite possibly! Excellent in depth fresh review - awesome job Marissa! ( and you did ok too there David !😎😎)

Telly Savalas is the most physically dangerous Blofeld, but still smart and sophisticated. He’s not unwilling to lead his troops into pursuit when going after Bond, whereas the other Blofelds are not a physical threat (they rely on others to endanger Bond).

@@marissamuchies18 Savalas is Greek like me, and advertise Greece in the film (What were all the world's charms to mighty Paris, when he found that first dawn in the arms of his Helen?). In novel, Blofeld's father was Polish, and his mother was Greek, hence his Greek name Stavro. But Yul Brynner is closer to the role, as required by the film series. Savalas as Greek and Balkan, must take Yul Brynner's role in ''Battle of Neretva''.

Showed it to my friends in the same age range, they loved it. It's not the crazy, whacky thing he thinks it is. I love hearing different generations talking about Bond. I recall you doing similar videos with your son (I think) and I enjoyed those as well. Great Bond film. One of the best. The only thing I would change is shortening the Piz Gloria bit. They should have skipped the Bray impersonation and just have Bond sneak in, snoop around and get caught. Would have also solved the "Why doesn't Blofeld recognize Bond." Otherwise fantastic film.

Great video! By the way, the best thing about villain's lair in OHMSS(1969) is that Piz Gloria is actually the real place that still exists today, 53 years later! Of course, I love volcano lair in YOLT(1967) even more, but sadly filmmakers immediately demolished that structure! So sad! What a great tourist attraction that would be...

Deus Ex Machina - God from the machine. "A person or thing that appears or is introduced into a situation suddenly and unexpectedly and provides an artificial or contrived solution to an apparently insoluble difficulty. The term was first used in ancient Greek and Roman drama, where it meant the timely appearance of a god to unravel and resolve the plot." Marissa is really a smart person. Goldeneye and Majesties my top Bond films. Blofeld and his men single file skiing that ridge, with the title song going, is just epic. Tracy my favorite Bond girl. The glance between her and Bond in the barn, as he shuts a door, speaks volumes. When Bond has to navigate Blofeld and his men down the mountain, then Irma And her men in the village. He sits on that bench, Bond looking physically exhausted, needing help. When he looks up at Tracy in a skate outfit, she makes stunning, it speaks volumes. The title song is tops. Savalas Blofeld right there with Trevelyan, Silva and Goldfinger as my top villains.

Thanks for your review, especially to Marrisa. I believe the film comes at the right time, when the messages are ''make love, not war'' and ''all you need is love''. Has the right actors to the other roles (better for Blofeld is Yul Brynner), but not in Bond. Here Bond is not relatively young, vulnerable and infinite, but a mature man with experience, like the actors to the other roles. Connery in ''You Only Live Twice'' is the character of Bond here. An agent tired of his job, finds happiness in love and marriage. Peter Hunt did a great job, but plot is more like a romantic movie, and ignored Bond and Blofeld metting in previous film. With Connery romance would be different, Bond and Tracy would be like him and Bardot in ''Shalako''. Until early 70s Connery is Bond for everyone. We also see this when Lazenby breaks the 4th wall (didn't say ''This never happened to the other movies''). After Connery here, I believe to Stanley Baker. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rNmkpZCbzanOho0.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/md1paKWo1KiUqnk.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h5d1dKeb3dGthac.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e7JmgbZ1uqvVpIE.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bKuVqs55ss29o5s.html

This winter I had an opportunity to ski at Piz Gloria. It was during a weekday so that the slope was almost empty (the cable car goes every 15 minutes or so, you just have to wait a moment for the rest of skiers to go down) and the weather was amazing. Skiing down from the Piz Gloria, after visiting the Bond Experience exhibition and listening at the same time to the movie theme on the headphones made me feel...well, I will definitely remember it for the rest of my life. Worth any price. PS. As I live currently in Switzerland, it makes me think that Bond should definitely come back here!

Although Lazenby received much support from Broccoli and Saltzman, he had a less easy ride from the board of United Artists who were none too keen to see him take over the mantle of Bond. On 7 July 1968, test footage of Lazenby and Rigg had been sent to United Artists in New York - and the were less than impressed by what they saw. On 23 September 1968, UA's head man David Picker even flew into London, desperate to tempt Connery back into the fold. But Connery was adamant that he wasn't coming back - EON and UA had made him a star and Connery was now a major player, capable of picking only the roles that interested him. And at this moment, Bond simply didn't interest him at all. It was only reluctantly that UA accepted EON's recommendation that Lazenby be given the part. This is indeed a great movie. But as much as it has been underrated for decades, it has become more overrated in recent years. I explain: Positives: - It had amazing action scenes, especially the snow skiing scenes, but also the scenes where Bond fights are very good, - It had amazing music: The instrumentall and the song "We have all the time in the World" are some of the best compositions of the great John Barry. - It had probably the best Bondgirl in the history of the franchise. Diana Rigg in the role of Tracy is simply amazing! Her stunning performance is the ultimate highlight of the film. - It had an excellent plot. Peter Hunt followed Fleming's novel faithfully. And the love story and Tracy's death are unique… - It had a great villain. Telly Savalas has an excellent interpretation as Blofeld. Personally I have always preferred the invisible Blofeld (FRWL - Thunderball), but my second favorite is undoubtedly Savalas. Negatives: - George Lazenby is not bad in the role. For a non-actor who played for the first time in his life, he did well. But he does not seem "enough" asr Bond. His interpretation is somewhat "wooden" and his inexperience shows. Only in the action scenes he seems capable. He is somewhat "saved" by the good story and direction and the interpretations of Rigg and Savalas. - Lazenby does not "look" as Bond. He looks as tough as Connery did, but without the charm and charisma of the latter. Lazenby has a more "boyish" image that never made me "accustomed" to his appearance as Bond." - The (more than half an hour) scene at Pitz Gloria is unforgivable and completely boring for me. In it, Lazenby is badly dubbed pretending to be ... "sir Hilly". This scene destroys the whole atmosphere of the rest of the film and becomes quite blunt. It is also so boring to me that every time I see OHMSS I want to press "forward" to overtake it. In conclusion, the film has many advantages as well as disadvantages. Nevertheless, it is a pity that Lazenby did not had the opportunity to make one or two more films. I think he would get improved. We would have a proper OHMSS sequel where Bond would come as avenger of Tracy's death. And we probably would not have fallen for Bond's transformation into a "parody" with DAF and the Moore era.

Another negative is that they ignore Bond and Blofeld metting in previous film. Savalas is Greek like us, and advertise Greece in the film (What were all the world's charms to mighty Paris, when he found that first dawn in the arms of his Helen?). In novel, Blofeld's father was Polish, and his mother was Greek, hence his Greek name Stavro. But Yul Brynner is closer to the role, as required by the film series. Savalas as Greek and Balkan, must take Yul Brynner's role in ''Battle of Neretva''. D.A.F. would be a revenge film, if Connery was in O.H.M.S.S. or Lazenby at D.A.F. But the style would be the same, because is a necessity of the time and Moore the right person for this era. 28.01- 29.06 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rLdlg6Zo0pqZj2Q.html

Terrific Bond film - spoiled by the absence of Sir Sean Connery. 😠 The Fleming novel is great.

Hi David And Marissa Have watched your channel a while now and enjoy all your input and views. OHMSS is a film close to my heart the first Bond Film l saw in the cinema as a 10 year old and now 53 years later still in my opinion is the Best Bond Film To watch you both go through and enjoy the film was great to watch. But no mention of probably the Best Bond Score ever by John Barry. Perhaps in the future maybe as its the 60th Anniversary a review of the Best Bond Scores and David the best Pre Credits all the movies. Keep up the good work and would one day maybe if you get over to England meet up just to say hello Thanks John

It's my favourite Bond movie, it just gets better with age like a wine .l saw it for the first time in 1977 at my local cinema at bond double bill with you only live twice, as a kid it felt strange because there was no Sean Connery in it . Over the years seeing it on TV 📺. Not the full version bits were missing. I didn't see it the full version intill 1990 at the James bond conversation at pinewood studios. It's my favourite because of the storyline and music . Great opening title and by Geroge's underrated performance as Bond 007 . Sean is my favourite Bond. I just wish Geroge had done Dimonds are forever .

It's hard to believe that YOLT and Diamonds bookend this film because it's so different. I just wished they stayed with this tone, but not always easy when you don't have the original source material to work with.

I'm 22, this is what I call the Best Bond Movie ever. Period. Stop. And I did not come in like someone who watched all the modern ones and went back, I started with the first, and went film by film. I loved this movie so much, it and For Your Eyes Only are my top two best Bond movies ever, and I have seen them all.

As someone who is only 3 years older than Marissa, I absolutely love OHMSS and always have. It's my favorite Bond film of the 1960's and is one of my top ten Bond films. And it's SO MUCH better than No Time to Die since it's based on a Fleming novel and not a story that was created with it's ending first.

Had George Lazenby stayed on as James Bond 007 - Diamonds are Forever was meant to be On Her Majesty’s Secret Service Part 2, Bond going out for revenge after a personal tragedy (just like Licence to Kill and Quantum of Solace). Lazenby would’ve been the 1970s James Bond instead of Roger Moore. Besides On Her Majesty’s and Diamonds, Lazenby would’ve ended up doing Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker if that were the case. Shame we never got to have that era that our parents/grandparents never got to experience. Cried like a big baby from films that made me do and it had to be a James Bond film like this. No Time to Die also brought me to the edge

While I was expecting more of a "Battle of the Generations" review here, I should know by now that Marissa is first and foremost, a cinefile, and not your average moviegoer. And can someone get that woman her official Bond card, stat?! I think the point about a Bond movie being good, or great even, but not the one you reach for is a common theme in David's videos. No Time to Die might be a better "movie", but I'm not reaching for it before this one.

Thank you so much! I think I need to at least see the Dalton films before I even come close to a Bond card 😄 I think you make a good point about rewatchability - NTTD is excellent in so many ways, but sometimes folks just want to watch something with great set pieces, great action, and a lot of fun. OHMSS provides all these things in droves.

I think it’s one of those exceptionally well directed Bond films. There are some great shots in this film. Not to mention, it’s nice to see how they balance the almost cartoonish supervillain plot with the more dramatic romance going on. Definitely one of the best Bond flicks.

Deus ex machina, just to help you guys with the pronunciation, is pronounced as "day-oos ex machina". It's a term that comes from the old Greeks and Romans and literally translates to "the god out of the machine", aka a solution to one of the films problems that comes out of nowhere. Back then it was a term used to describe this mostly in plays (mostly tragedies). Btw, I think OHMSS is referring to Bond having to chose between his job and service to his country and Tracy. So it doesn't really matter that he's not actually on the job for a lot of the film, as it is precisely about this conflict within him.
