Күн бұрын

Beyond the Backlot is a show about iconic movies and their locations. We take you on journeys to the very places where some of your favorite movies were filmed, the stories of what happened there, and what they look like today. These are adventures you don't want to miss.
ABOUT THE EPISODE -- Home Alone (1990) On Location
We slept in! -- Home Alone Filming Locations 30 years later!
Home Alone is THE Christmas movie of a generation. Right after Thanksgiving, this Chris Columbus-directed film is on repeat, and for good reason. Although there are plenty of funny, slapstick scenes with Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) and the wicked Wet Bandits (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern), this movie hits on what the true meaning of Christmas is: love and family. You can't help but feel good (and fully entertained) at the end.
The Beyond the Backlot crew heads to the Chicagoland area (Winnetka, Wilmette, and Oak Park) to track down some of these iconic, memorable filming locations -- and fulfill last year's @BeyondtheBacklot Location Scout episode -- a true then and now filming locations adventure. As John Hughes normally did, he canvassed the north shore suburbs of Chicago to find the perfect home, neighborhood, and community for his timeless Christmas classic. It was an honor to walk in the footsteps of John Hughes' most commercially-successful film of his brilliant career.
Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals. And Happy New Year!
AND -- Happy 30th Anniversary to Home Alone!

What if your favorite movie could come back to life? It does in Beyond the Backlot.
As kids of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, we have fond memories of watching our favorite films over and over. Thanks to theaters and VHS tapes, these movies aren't just blockbusters from the past - they're part of our childhood.
Beyond the Backlot taps into our hunger for nostalgia by visiting the current day locations of our favorite films.

My dad worked as a mailman for the town of Winnetka during these Home Alone filming years. The Home Alone house was not one of the homes assigned to his direct mail route, but he did drive us past the house during the early 90's when we were kids, and the owners at the time had a cardboard cutout of Kevin McCallister looking out the front window by the door. Good times.

I’ve always said if I was a lottery winner, I would buy this house for however much it cost to acquire and oversee a full restoration to its 1990 wallpapered top to bottom, red and green, gold fixture glory. This home deserves to be a museum for the masses. It’s cultural significance is far too great and has had a profound impact on generations. Shame on the current homeowners for knowingly purchasing a property with such an important cinematic history and being so stingy. Really really sad.

LOVE THIS!! What a beautiful home. I recently watched a video from an interview of the girl (now woman) who lived their during the filming. She was young.. maybe Macaulay’s age at the time? Anyway, she spoke about the experience and how wonderful it was. The family was surprised by how successful the movie became. She said she knew something “great was happening”when filming but didn’t realize the scope of how deeply this movie would touch people. As you mentioned, it IS THE MOVIE of a generation and an all-time classic! I am watching part 2 right now. Absolutely love both of them. Another thing the woman mentioned was that the family came to appreciate the love and adoration fans had for the movie and the house. As people lined up outside their house in winter 1990 after the film was released to take pictures of and to witness in person the house. Eventually, it grew on the family the winters/years after and it became part of Christmas for her. Pretty damn cool! Sadly tho, that family moved out a few years back and others live there now but.. truly an awsome house and always loved it. Anytime I pass by a house that looks even remotely similar , I think about this house. Absolutely perfect for this movie. Such an amazing movie. I HAVE to go visit that house myself one day. Would be fantastic! Thanks for the video!

This was the first movie I ever saw in a movie theatre. I was 6 years old. I grew up watching this movie every Christmas with my family. Brings back such great memories. I've always been obsessed with this movie. The music by John Williams is just so magical. I own the soundtrack and listen to it every Christmas. The Home Alone House is just beautiful. The casting was perfect. How I feel about Home Alone is how my dad feels about A Christmas Story. Both are great Christmas classics. I just have always had a connection with Home Alone. I secretly stalk this house and saw it was for sale a few years ago. I found a realtor on KZfaq who did a tour of the home. The pervious owners have since updated everything. The people who bought this house apparently don't like people coming to take pictures near it. That honestly makes me upset. This is a famous house from one of the best Christmas movies in my opinion that has touched so many of our hearts. They shouldn't have purchased it if thats an issue for them. What Assholes! A gate is not going to stop people from coming to photograph it. I would love to purchase this home one day and restore it to exactly how it was in the movie. Around Christmas time I would give tours of the home and serve hot coco to anyone who visited it. Just a little dream I have. My son is two and I can't wait for us to start a tradition of watching it together every year. Thanks so much for the great video. You guys are the best! I would never turn the sprinklers on you. God I just want to punch the owners now.

Great work, guys! I love the Home Alone movies. I was in the 6th grade when the first one came out and always imagined that happening to me when I was a kid. It's just an all around feel good Christmas movie; a modern classic now. Hard to believe it came out so long ago now. I remember watching the trailers for this movie on TV and being so excited to go see it. I still remember seeing this in the theaters with my family, like it was yesterday.

Since Walt Disney owns the rights to Home Alone now after buying Fox. They should buy the McCallister house and make it an iconic location. Universal Studios had to buy the Toretto house from the Fast and Furious for those very reasons of tourist visiting the location frequently. The studios responsible for such iconic films should just buy those iconic properties so the public can visit them.
