In my 60+ years of collecting hunting and reloading is clean the gun when you first get it if any debris and from there start sighting it in and clean between each 3 shots and by the time you get through that box the gun is sighted in and broke in enough to hunt with! Has worked on my Hundreds of new rifles I have owned in Any brand!

I have the PERFECT break-in procedure... shoot the damn thing and don't worry about it. A quote from one of my favorite barrel makers, you might recognize the brand if you've read their FAQ: "Break-in procedures are as diverse as cleaning techniques. ****** introduced a break-in procedure mostly because customers seemed to think that we should have one. By and large, we don't think breaking-in a new barrel is a big deal. All our stainless steel barrels have been hand lapped as part of their production, as well as any chrome moly barrel we install. Hand lapping a barrel polishes the interior of the barrel and eliminates sharp edges or burrs that could cause jacket deformity. This, in fact, is what you are doing when you break-in a new barrel through firing and cleaning."

Most hammer forged barrels do not require breaking in, Tikka and CZ say that it is not necessary.

I love my Weatherby’s, but the only way to maximize accuracy to work up a variety of hand loads. Different powders, primers and bullets dramatically effect accuracy.

What I got from this podcast is Weatherby doesn’t have standards or procedure for break-in. They go off their feelings. So I’m winging it. 🤷🏽‍♂️

I can’t stress trying multiple loads. I have one that shoots a certain load 2-3” with a certain load. With the same grain but different bullet it shoots 1” or better every time. I also have one Weatherby in .257 Wby Mag that shoots the least expensive ammo under an inch every time and shoots the 80 grain TTSX loads in the same hole. I set a timer and wait 10-15 minutes depending on outside temps when shooting on the bench. You have no doubt when you find the load your rifle really likes. My .257 Wby it’s the older 100 grain Spitzers and 80 grain Barnes TTSX. With my 6.5-300 Wby Mag the 127 grain Barnes LRX and the 140 grain Swift Aframe. I tend to lean further towards the 140 grain Swift Aframe factory load. Great video guys.

Great podcast. I have a few Weatherby rifles, my best shooting rifle is my 340-Weatherby Magnum. Interesting information at the end about the Backcountry TI 6.5-RPM, as much as I do not like the sticker price of the Backcountry TI I think my next rifle will be one chambered in 6.5-RPM.

So excited with my new weatherby deluxe 7mm weatherby mag . Heirloom quality rifle . I happened to win it in a raffle with 10 boxes of 160 gr weatherby ammo . So the break in on this ammo is 110 bucks lol😂

I live in eastern suburbia, and the only place I can shoot is a commercial indoor range. They're not going to let me clean the barrel between shots, and I'm not driving to the range, taking three shots, then going home to clean before the next three shots. So, cleaning every 1 or 3 or 5 shots for 20+ shots = not happening >> just not practical. Also, I get the lane for one hour INCL setup & cleanup...I can't shoot 3-shot groups with 10 minutes of cooling after each group.

I have an about a 300 Wby Mag Ultralight, with Bell and Carlson stock that shoots poorly (3"@100). I gave up on it for many years but recently came back to it to try to resolve the issues. I noticed that the stock was in contact with the barrel on the left side over about 4" area. I have removed this by sanding it down and I also noticed that the barrel was also touching the stock near the front. I've read a thousand forums about barrel stiffness in these models, free floating vs leaving the stock in contact with the front of the barrel. I was shooting 3" groups and now 1.5" after free floating and stock modification. Can you guys tell me about barrel stiffness and if free floating the barrel was a mistake. It is my intention to shoot some different bullets and weights to see if I can get consistent 1" groups via different harmonics.

I have a weatherby 257 and I love this gun I kill two 12 pointer and two does the first year I got the the gun but didn't like the ammunition I bought it was from horndy it did not penetrate through all the deer i kill i had to trail both bucks one went over 25o yard and the other went over 375 yards all shot through the shoulder.but it's not the gun it's the bullet. But now I hand load for it and I use barns bullets and they drop right there and never move. So you have to know what Bullets to use in this caliber it makes a Difference. But I love weatherby rifles they are great

If you have to fire form say 7mm to 257 wm , can you do that for your breaking ? Lighter load ?

So in essence, it's more of a "luck of the draw." You might get one that's shoots consistently and accurate, or you might not? I guess I got lucky with my old Vanguard. Love Weatherby firearms. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. (I'm not a tough guy, I use a lead sled when sighting in)

All of rifles will fall under our Sub Moa at 100 yard guarantee. However it is true that from any gun manufacturer - barrel to barrel - gun to gun, accuracy will differ.

If they offer a .99 less guarantee on a new Weatherby using premium ammunition why would I need to do a break in? Am just going to give it a good clean before I take it to the range to zero in the scope. Btw the one I am getting is chambered in 240 wby am just going to purchase factory ammo even though I reload for several calibers already.

Barrel break in is not necessarily a requirement, it is a recommendation. Most of our rifles will ship and shoot incredibly right out of the box with the right ammunition. Barrel break in is an extra step to help tighten up those groups. A gun that was shooting a .99 MOA group out of the box may suddenly be shooting even better groups after break in. Whereas if a gun is just outside of our accuracy guarantee a break in may pull it down too well within the guarantee. We stand by our products and if after all efforts are exhausted a particular firearm still won't perform to our standards then our guarantee is that it will be replaced on our dime.

I just bought one of your rifles in .257. It’s being shipped to me right now! I’ve already invested a lot of money in that rifle. I hope it shoots good or I’ll be seeing how good your customer service looks is!! Can’t wait to take it to the range, as it will be my first Weatherby and the most expensive rifle I’ve ever purchased.

Any gun new or not needs to be shot to see what ammo it likes and unforchantly that requires shooting the gun beside if you can afford a Weatherby you should be able to afford the ammo! The first accumark I bought for my dad when they first came out in 1997 was $1,000. And the ammo was $100. A box so I bought 5 boxes of ammo which was $500. And in the 10 years my father owned the gun he went through 3 boxes of ammo.

@@edwardabrams4972 I have a 240, 257, 6.5 RPM, 270, and two 300 weatherby's. I have never had one that would shoot a specific bullet type / weight, poorly... But they all like some rounds best. I have tried Hammer bullets in three of them and they all shot sub-moa.

most of the "big" rifle manufacturer's say break-in is not needed with their barrels; a few say it's necessary only with their cheaper models; a few say it's not necessary with their barrels but does help... ...according to this guy: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z8yIgLeZt7LbqWg.html

They sell them with the target to show what the rifle is shooting with that ammo! You are not going to see Weatherby and goodwill in the same sentence for a reason! They are in the business to sell guns not keep track of the coyote population🤔😳

You better inspect the rifles before you send them to the customers, because I received mine with the Trigger safety not engage

do you mean the safety was defective? I've never received a rifle with the bolt inserted, safety not engaged is not relevant to new unloaded rifle.
