St. Seraphim of Sofia discusses an important aspect of the Ecumenical Movement in the 20th century: Freemasonry. Presenting to the Moscow Pan-Orthodox Congress of 1948, which included representatives from nearly all autocephalous Orthodox churches, St. Seraphim highlights the well-known Freemason, John Raleigh Mott, the main promoter of "unity" among separate Christian groups. Mott spearheaded the 1910 World Missionary Conference in Edinburgh and the first meeting of the World Council of Churches in 1948. Mott helped send Protestant student missionaries with the YMCA to evangelize Orthodox countries and for his ecumenical efforts won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1946. St. Seraphim understands that ecumenical efforts only serve to blur the boundaries between the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church (the Orthodox Church) and other sects claiming to be part of the Church. Such blurring draws people away from the only place, as St. Seraphim teaches, men can become saints: the Orthodox Church. Unfortunately, despite St. Seraphim's warning of the sinister nature and dreadful consequences of the Ecumenical Movement for Holy Orthodoxy, the Patriarchate of Moscow joined the World Council of Churches at its Third Assembly in New Delhi in 1961 and has been one of its most active members ever since.

From this, it is obvious who really stands behind the ecumenical movement: Freemasons, longtime foes of the Orthodox Church. It is also clear to what end the ecumenical movement, at all of its gatherings since its inception, has striven: not a dogmatic union of all so-called “Christian churches” with the Orthodox Church, but a commixture of both, achieved by means of the falling away of the Orthodox from their Faith through an ecumenical familiarity with heretics, especially with Protestants. This commixture is equivalent to the destruction of Orthodoxy.
For not joining the ecumenical movement as the Orthodox ecumenists have, we are accused of an essential lack of love for non-Orthodox Christians. However, through their involvement in the ecumenical movement, Orthodox ecumenists break the Holy Canons; violate Orthodox ecclesiological dogma; establish friendships with Protestants and Freemasons at ecumenical gatherings, which makes them lenient toward Protestants propagandizing in Orthodox countries; and assist the enemies of the Orthodox Church in their work for Her elimination.

Orthodoxy isn't exclusively a top down system, there can and have been heretical members but their actions are not indicative of Church dogma. Just because this ecumenist organization claims to contain supportive heretical people from different Churches doesn't mean those Churches as a whole support those people's actions or believe in ecumenism.

Because all the Orthodox Patriarchates have become, and remain, both heretical and even apostate. Only the churches that remain separate from the WCC, and also remain on the Church Calendar (Julian), are Truly and fully Orthodox.

Timothy, do your listeners usually use such vitriol in their communications with Orthodox clergy and others? It is strange how much passion they express while withholding what I presume are very good arguments. Thank you for posting this reading though. It is very helpful to be reminded that even Sergianists in the 1940s were leery of involvement in the WCC. If they had stuck by their position in the 60s and maintained it, at least we wouldn't be dealing with that now. I love this channel.

What a coincidence! I was just reading about St. Seraphim of Sofia in an essay about the troubled history of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. It said St. Seraphim was very pious and holy, nothing about his skill at apologetics. Sounds like the NKVD “informed” the saint about only the ecumenical groups that had some Masonic leaders. The Saint probably knew nothing of Rev. Frank Buchman’s “Oxford Groups” that were so influential in the resistance to Hitler in the twentieth century, including Orthodox royal families using Rev. Buchman, a Lutheran, as a spiritual adviser. Stalin said he hated Buchman’s message of peace,, because he did not want workers and owners of businesses to reconcile. This essay uses the classic logical fallacy of the strawman. They define all conversations between Orthodoxy and other Christians or religion as ECUMENISM!, using examples from the twenty century trying to lure Orthodox to give up their beliefs. In my experience, such interfaith interaction usually leads to Catholics and Protestants inquiring into becoming Orthodox. The Moscow version of Orthodoxy has yet to renounce, denounce, and exorcize Stalin’s politicization of the church and the seminaries he founded, and recently seemed to have doubled down on using ikons and church services to bless the Kremlin’s imperial designs on its neighbors. Since the invasion of the Republic of Novogrod and murder of the Metropolitan who refused to bless the invasion, the Kremlin has established a pattern of accusing the Pope or the West of threatening Orthodoxy to justify its political ambitions. Typical of the Kremlin to use only the words of a Russian saint living in Bulgaria, taken out of context, to pitch their propaganda. The Orthodox Church and its ikons are not props to be used for political purposes.

Luther used the term "protestant"-in protest thereof. In 1054 the Roman Church left in protest trying to change by a worldly dictate for worldly aims. Other protestant movements since 1517 have been the same regardless of left, right or whatever. We Orthodox Christians didn't invent heresy nor do we assume we can change what God gave us. Since when did the Roman Catholic church cease to be an orthodox church too? Since the command to, "Get some clothes on" no longer includes us women having to wear hats in church too is that the only reason the Roman Catholic church now should be according to some be arbitrarily refered to as 'non-Orthodox' now? I am no celebrity who needs to go out to buy what is called only a facinator too. Furthermore didn't more than one person following Jesus Christ promise that some day before that got written down that there would be two rows of what is called the tree of life outside not only just one? Both with the same kind of good fruits? I am sure Irene of Athens might be for awhile feeling proud about that movement. However us Roman Catholics are according to some not supposed to believe there is such thing as "Pergatory." 1'Pergatory where gossips end up too. Some people believe that spies are not gossips too. Last time I checked there is a huge difference between a messenger and a common gossip spy. Unity in diversity among man follwing Jesus Christ is a different thing than coersion and violence to enforce only conformity to material culture. What about all of the encyclopedia like sets of books out there getting dusty in places like crawl spaces after they have been offered to Protestant and Orhodox clerics alike too as if they need them to buy them first before being able to become a successful cleric too? As if the number of books one owns is proof that there is real love in that clerics heart. None of us can afford anymore to romanticize the past concerning Freemasonry. Freemasonry always deeply involved in the manufacture of carnal weapons. Carnal weapons including nuclear weaponry too.

Timothy, this document now suffers the judgment of having been undone. The Russian Church does now belong to the WCC. What does this say about your own standing and that of others who belong to Ecumenism themselves, present teachings like these but continue to disparage confession like the one I belong to as schismatic? This has gone on long enough hasnt it? True Orthodoxy, as offered on the GOC provides the setting teachings like this aim at but fail to achieve. Priest, Methodius Chwastek. Is The Russian Church supposed to leave the WCC? And leave Bartholomew to be the soul voice of Orthodoxy to the rest of the world? You have made yourselves schismatic when you chose to leave Communion with The True Church, over personal bitterness past issues. There can be no truthful claim made about The Russian Church being Ecumenist.

Maybe I can help sort out your confused, and disrespectful comment. 1. Bartholomew has no Orthodox voice. To leave him alone would not be a compromise, but a move toward Orthodoxy. 2. To say that I (we) have left the True Church begs the question. Stating that we have doesnt make it true. 3. What psychological vantage point enables you to know, with such dogmatism, that I (we) left over pettiness, as you suggest? What if I said I left over dogmatic, ecclesial issues? Do I have the right to say why I left, or is that up to you? 4. To claim that the Russian church (MP) is Ecumenist is an empirically verifiable claim. Your emotions do not change facts documented with every conceivable method of documentation. 5. Schism is not characterized by breaking away from error, but by embracing it.

@@AlAndaloceima Thank you! I was ready for a little respect, but, no big deal. Apparently, you do agree with me when I say that Bartholomew is not a "voice" for Orthodoxy. I didn't say anything more than that he is in error and teaches error. This, you agree with. When you attack my supposed "super-correctness" do you simply mean well-reasoned arguments? If you revisit my statement I said nothing about his Sacramental state, just that he is not a "voice" for Orthodoxy (teaches error). If well-conceived arguments and the inclusion of historical and theological content represents "super-correct" these days, I would simply ask you to consider departing from "super-incorrect" arguments and slander. We can talk about many things, but sloganizing is a cowardly maneuver for those with indefensible positions. Pray for me! Priest, Methodius.
