Afternoon , Vivi ! I’m a fan of a good volume of well-written short stories. Tova Jansson sounds of interest from your description. Our library does have a Short Story section. I will definitely check her out for some of my summer reading collection . Thanks ! Before pandemic I was volunteering at the library weekly. I have familiarized myself with most authors - John Boyne is a favorite. Your reviews are always welcome but especially in these times. It’s good to have ‘escapist’ lit around. Oh Vivi the awkward book gift really resonates as every Christmas my sister in law gives my 3 girls a Christmas love story book each 😬 which they have no interest in at all, they love the Classics, feel bad but her book gifts go straight to the charity shop, It’s very awkward. Hi Vivi. Great to see another video from you. You are looking and sounding much better now. The sun has come out now here in Devon.. bit of a shock to the system to be honest... we have gotten so used to the rain... but I'm not complaining lol. I am always interested to hear of the genres of books other like to read. I usually read non fiction but after all the trials of this past year... I am ashamed to say I am reading chick lit fiction as a way to escape my grief. I find Milly Johnson very easy to read. Sending you all my love as always xxxxxx

After seeing your review (I mean when I first saw it a few months ago), I picked up Murakami in my local library (they do not often have books you mention, and Murakami was only as his short stories, not the "running" book). I love Japanese literature, but you know what, I found Murakami a bit.. I am unsure how to put it... "I would do it differently" type. I mean: there are so tremendously wonderful pieces of literature out there, that sometimes when we stumble across such a gem, we think to ourselves "You can never pick up a pen again, you could NEVER write like this!" (if you are into writing, that is). And than - you just do not write for a month. Or a year. Because you feel unworthy. With Murakami it is different. I do not say I do not like his writing (I do!), but rather than making me consider myself not able to write anything worth reading, it actually makes me... write. I mean, it is not a gem of literature. It is not bad either. It is just... humble in a way. Makes you think "I could write something like that, but I would do it like this and this" and before you know it, you have just put together a short story or a novel chapter. :-)

The question to ask of the giver, perhaps, is what made them think of you in selecting a particular book. The answer might be very interesting. Once was given a very odd book because, I was told, the jacket cover went with my decor! Apparently not all books are for reading! ❤️& rest up if you can
