On this episode we finally let the 'cat-out-of-the-bag' on THE ULTIMATE OEM Seiko bracelet option for the hugely popular Seiko Alpinist. I'll compare this pre-Presage M0PF111J0 bracelet paired to my SPB089 Blue Alpinist against the Classic SARB017 JDM Alpinist on the most common M0TZ111J0 bracelet, as well as compare it against the new for 2020 SBDC087 (SPB117)Seiko Prospex Alpinist on its factory equipped bracelet. We'll also highlight a more recent piece of the the Alpinist history covering how these three models tie together and the importance of the Blue Alpinist in bridging the gap. *Note: OEM Alpinist spring bars will be too thick for the M0PF111J0 endlinks, so you'll need thinner spring bars similar to the ones that come on Presage models around 1.5mm thickness or less

i just picked up this bracelet, not sure if you know this but the mm300 bracelet is almost identical. I swapped out the mm300 clasp to the M0PF111J0 bracelet. OEM + mods FTW!

i have to disagree, the green alpinist, sarb017 saved the alpinist line. there was so much hype surrounding that watch, years before the blue one was introduced.

When the Blue Alpinist sold out in a few hours at a full $600 retail price, it proved to Seiko that there was demand that existed within their modern global pricing structure vs. the JDM SARB017 selling for $350 for 15+ years via the grey market.

the blue alpinist selling out in a few hours cemented seiko's business model for selling limited editions. but the sarb017, green alpinist, selling solidly for 15yrs. showed seiko the popularity of that model!......... just saying.

@@jh-il5sb Okay, so why have so many other popular models been phased out after being so popular for so long? This is standard Seiko, popular models come and go over the years, the fact that the Alpinist was revived so quickly, is extremely unique. Think about the SKX, there most popular model, gone for years while the Turtle reissue picked up steam and even the mini-turtle, only to return as a down spec'd Seiko 5 entry-level piece. Do you honestly believe that the Alpinist was more popular than the SKX007 or 009?

@@AverageBros Lets be real, they made a new alpinist with a 700+ euro price tag. This is possible because there is nothing like the alpinist in their current like. They can't ressurect a more expensive SKX because then their product would be their own enemy ;) P.S. they did make sarb033/35 replacements in the presage line but they are more expensive for less product.

I recently got the green SARB017 and I must say you have to see it off camera to truly appreciate the radiant dial playing with the gilt indices. Now I'm trying to find a bracelet for it but they all seem to be out of stock a the moment. : (

I wish I would have known about this bracelet way back when I was upgrading my Sarb017. I ended upgrading to the strapcode super oyster 3D with polished center link. To top things off I added the Seiko ratcheting clasp.

Thanks for the look at those bracelets. I've got the Strapcode brushed Super-O bracelet on my Blue Alpinist. The clasp is a bit big in comparison, due to all the micro adjustments, but it works well on my 7.25" wrist and it looks great.

How do you feel the thickness of the links on the Super O works with the lugs on the Alpinist? I was considering that bracelet for my SARB017.

That chamfer on the inside of the clasp looks comfy indeed, But I guess you can't have it all in a Seiko. You choose between, signed crown, nice bracelet or aligned indices :D

M0PF111J0 has the same gap on the clasp when the clasp is closed (Gap at 6 o’clock position that jams the every shirt cuffs) as original bracelet does? This is the main reason I want to change the bracelet of my Glacier Alpinist. Thanks,

Got the black one for myself yesterday. But I did notice a slight sideways movement on the compass crown... is that normal? Is it supposed to be a little loose like that?

It's a commonly mentioned "feature," they all do it. It runs on a cheap plastic cog which has some play. That movement also accounts for the occasional misalignment of the compass points with the rest of the dial.

Have both the 017 green and the new Black model , originally changed out the standard dodgy strap on the green 017 to a Stapcode oyster but after getting the black edition, i changed back to a quality leather strap on the 017 . I think its a better look.

spencerfourhigher Blue alpinist SPB089 was a Limited Edition (1959 pcs), sold mainly via hodinkee. It is a slight modification of the SARB017, with a blue dial & silver index markers (otherwise identical to SARB) and a case back with limited edition & number xxxx of 1959. Comes with a black leather strap.

No - the 033/035 cases will not be able to use bracelets designed for the Alpinist line.

There was a lengthy video on what bracelets will fit the various Sarb model watches - could have been Mark @ LIW. They actually tried to make this work. As I recall the location of the spring bar holes in the cases are the issue. Sorry - it wont work

@@Wulf44445 no it doesn’t. Try uncle Seiko they have a president and jubilee style for the sarb- I wouldn’t recommend strapcode for this specific watch

I don't know if this is a common opinion, but I'd MUCH rather see you handle the watch with your natural, human hands, instead of a petroleum-based covering. I'm referring to the start of the video where you showed handling with a glove. I guess I just don't get that, and it was an immediate turn-off to the watch.
