I haven't seen this season in many years but it saddens me how unaccommodating and ostracizing the ladies are to Christy in the beginning. It really made my heart hurt that the ladies would do that to such a sweet soul. Love Christy, happy she got a chance to play. ILY!

Christy should have been on the Heroes tribe on Heroes vs Villains instead of Sugar. I think she would have bonded with a lot of people there, especially Rupert

Though I think being deaf makes it very hard to communicate on Survivor, I would totally like to Christy back on the show and glad to see her go so far the first time.

Thank you so much for this! Any Christy fan will be aware she had hairy armpits on the show. On the "internets" on various now-extinct forums, she got a lot of shit about that, mainly from other women. I was pretty much her lone defender online. While the show was airing, I found a working email address and exchanged several emails with her. I recognized one of her victory dances as a Grateful Dead shuffle. A few months later, I looked up and there she was at a Red Rocks Dead show. Of course I went to talk with her, she remembered me, and I got a very nice hug. Needless to say, she is one of my all-time favorite Survivors.

i believe christy should be given a second chance. you don’t see a character like her anymore in modern survivor. which is a shame because she’s so endearing

What do you all think about Survivor's first deaf castaway?

I have so many thoughts! For starters, I absolutely adored Christy - she is hands down one of my top ten or twenty most likeable castaways of all time. She had very little (shown) strategy and definitely struggled, but I LOVED her. I definitely wish she could've returned for either All Stars (did we need FIVE people from Australian Outback really?) or one of the seasons where fans voted contestants back in. My biggest thought on deafness in Survivor is the lack of translators in certain situations just seems mean. Sure, maybe they don't "get" translators at all times, but they DEFINITELY should have an on-set translator for tribal councils, when challenge rules are being explained, and for other Jeff visits. It's not like there's not a million people already behind the cameras anyway, why not a translator? Matthew and the one Asian dude in Amazon spoke the same language (was it Mandarin? I don't remember) - it would be cool if the show would be willing to put a deaf contestant on the same team with at least one other player who knows American Sign Language - it's a SUPER common class at a lot of schools and colleges now, so I feel like there's got to be some younger contestants who know ASL! Not deaf related, but i'd also LOVE to see a mute player on Survivor. They'd definitely have to be provided a whiteboard and some markers so they can communicate with their team mates, but I think that would be a really cool opportunity for some unique interactions.

You just can't help but root for Christy. What an uphill battle she faced. And really, I think, opened a lot of people's minds about the struggles people like her go through every day. I was so glad to see her go as far as she did, especially considering that, as you've explained, her strategy game was pretty poor. Would have loved to see her make another appearance in a fan favorites season.

When I watched The Amazon, I loved Christy and I found her very endearing. And it's one of the reasons why I have some troubles with Jenna because I thought her behavior toward Christy was really mean

Really enjoyed this one! Christy is one of my favorite survivors from before all stars especially of those who only played once. I love how she was honest with everyone, but I think that was a big part of her downfall. I also love the confessional with the machete, as someone who knows sign language, I know she does the sign for fear, and I think it really shows how nervous it made her in a very subtle way. (I wish they had shown her signing more)

Sure, maybe Christy should've spoken up more about the girls accommodating her at night, and should have filtered her comments more, etc, but honestly she shouldn't have had to. The girls could not be bothered to try, ever, and it takes all of 5 minutes for Butch and co to be very accommodating and just treat her like a human instead of a problem. It forever upsets me how the women just could not care less about Christy. Her "attitude" is obviously completely different when she's not around people who don't care to interact with her or help her.

I think Christy has to be one of the most interesting characters we've seen in the show. Due to her being deaf, she was unfortunately not able to connect as well with some of the cast members as much as she would've liked but I think overall she did pretty damn well for herself and she certainly makes Amazon a better season with her. A shame she got a bit too cocky in her elim episode.

Most frustrating season. One of the worst winners. A season that represents all that’s bad about society maybe that’s why we all loved to watch it because it’s very relatable.

I loved rooting for Christy when I saw her on Survivor. The problem for me being someone who is hard of hearing is the red flags pop up with her. I have met a lot of people who are completely Deaf and I have communicated with sign language and writing on paper. I know for a fact ALL people who are completely Deaf cant read lips well. There are studies done and I believe it was around 1/3 of things said can be understood by Deaf people if they are relying on lip reading. This is why I was like wait what? I don't know her story, so I cant say she isnt Deaf, or say much about her, but I did find it very odd she had really good speech(That is very expensive education and very hard to get). She mentioned she could hear out of one ear, but couldn't hear at close distance in the dark. That made me very suspicious because Deaf people can't read lips! And if she cant hear at close distance with very little background noise I was baffled as to what to think. Im sure this was Survivor trying to edit the show and something got mixed up, and I am sure Christy is very nice in real life but its unfortunate how its a mess in her Survivor journey. I think it would be cool to have a completely Deaf person sometime! And of course and interpreter would be needed, or maybe a twist with a loved one or something would be cool
