Today we are exploring Kolkata, the capital city of West Bengal! We weren't sure we would make it this far East during our time in India, but we are so glad we did! Kolkata was previously called Calcutta and was the capital of British India for around 150 years. The British influence is still easy to see throughout the city and is impossible to miss if you are visiting Kolkata.
One of Kolkata's biggest attractions is the Victoria Memorial. For our first visit to Kolkata, visiting the Victoria Memorial was a must! It truly is a beautiful piece of architecture and holds a great museum where we were able to learn so much about the British occupation of India as well as the valiant effort made by Indian's to regain control of their country. If you are wondering what to do in Kolkata during your visit to West Bengal, we highly recommend taking time to see the Victoria Memorial and learn more about India's history from inside the memorial.
No Indian travel vlog would be complete without eating some delicious Indian food, so after the Victoria Memorial we popped into a fast food shop and had an awesome momo burger meal! It was our first time having momo burgers and they turned out to be pretty awesome.
We also visited Kolkata's Indian Museum while during our one day exploring Kolkata, and, well, let's just say it wasn't what we expected! We had a lot of fun going around the museum and quickly discovered that it's a type of natural history museum. It'd be a great place for kids!
Our last stop in Kolkata (Calcutta) was the Princep Ghat where we took a sunset boat ride. Despite the pollution that plagues India, the sunset boat ride along the Hooghly River was a great way to end our time in West Bengal!

It's a bless that Kolkata has less tuktuk and more cool looking taxis. And also it is a bless that Bengal govt decided to remove all colonial things and replacing them with our greatest Subash Chandra Bose. It's a really good decision.

Being Indian, I share same feelings about Indian Museum. You can visit Birla Planetarium, which is the biggest planeterum in asia. It is near to Victoria Memorial. It shows a 30 min show about space/planets. It gives really amazing experience with dome shaped screen above your head. It feels they are happening just before your eyes. So, if you happen to visit Kolkata again, consider visiting this :). But make sure to check the schedules though, because only two time slots are there for English Show.

Park Street used to be posh in the British rule and upscale in the 60's and 70's. But now, it has a few hotels and restaurant, being centrally located, but most of the prestigious offices moved away to Salt Lake and New Town and what remained are numerous small businesses and lots of street vendors. The area has a lot of history though and attract lots of tourists and food lovers!
