Life too short for long KZfaq videos? Please see the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below.
We are approaching the end of an era as we get ready to turn the lights out for good in That Pedal Shed.
But don’t panic. We are moving to a bigger and better space, so before we do we thought we’d make a couple of more lighthearted shows to bid farewell to ol’ place: this week and next.
What, then, if we were only allowed just one guitar, one amp and one pedal: what would we choose to satisfy ear and soul among the endless options?
As it turns out we reckon this could turn into a regular that runs every few months because as we explain in this episode, your current mood, tastes and most recent experiences always have a big impact on the choices. Next week the choices may have been quite different!
Please enjoy the show…

That Pedal Show drinking game: Take a sip of beer every time: 1. Dan says "schwang", "mega", or "interesting". 2. Mick says "to wit", "common-or-garden", or "middly". Take a shot of liquor every time: 1. The name drop horn is parped (be careful with certain episodes!) 2. Mick tells Dan to hurry up. 3. One of them has to tune. 4. Mick refers to the Mesa as "the messer." Please play responsibly.

33:50 - Mick that tone stack bypass is actually going to cause the signal to be stronger than if you just put all EQ knobs on 10. Tone stacks have some inherent 'insertion loss' meaning that there is always some signal loss going on. Kind of like the difference between a guitar tone control on 10 and a 'no load tone pot'. It can be quite a significant boost as a typical TMB tone stack is very lossy. The plate of a 12AX7 doesn't drive current well to push through a tone stack without some loss.
@Robstafarian
@Robstafarian 6 жыл бұрын
It is also worth noting that a typical Fender/Marshall tone stack is nowhere close to flat with its controls set full.

I've thought about this many times. The minimal gear I like is: Drive -> Compressor -> Delay -> Tremolo -> Reverb. I could live without a compressor and get a two-channel amp with tremolo. I don't like spring reverb, so all I'd need is a delay that also has reverb. So, I'd either keep my Avalanche Run or grab an El Capistan. Guitar is easy, rosewood fretboard Telecaster with Twisted Tele pickups. I have my '62 Jap Reissue. Amp also easy, Supro Black Magick. I'd better get saving.

I believe the loss of treble is the space echo. They're fine tuned for higher capacitance signals, so if you don't adjust the capacitance with a buffer, or by modding the space echo's inputs to be better served with a guitar you're likely to loss treble.

I get tube bias tremolo, spring reverb, fuzz, and sitar-like octavia all in a super compact rig! I usually run that exact setup with the Rambler cranked to 10 for overdrive.

out of what I own: Tele, DSL40C, Nova Repeater, use the volume knob to get different amounts of gain (orange drop caps help with treble) and need a little bit of delay to smooth things over. Yeah, the reverb is nothing to write home about but it's functional.
