An Orifice Meter is basically a type of flow meter used to measure the rate of flow of Liquid or Gas, especially Steam, using the Differential Pressure Measurement principle
When this Orifice Plate is placed in a line, a differential pressure is developed across the Orifice Plate. This pressure drop is linear and is in direct proportion to the flow-rate of the liquid or gas.
The viscosity of a fluid is a measure of its resistance to deformation at a given rate.

Higher reynolds number of fluid can cause turbulent flow and that might affect the dp as well. So Reynolds number should be having a upper limit till that use of orifice is recommended. Generally how much is that value?

Thanks for your wonderful comment !! Let us discuss this in 2 points. Point 1 :- Orifice is ISO 5167 Refer below scope clause of the standard (Page 1 Clause 1): . It (meaning the standard) is not applicable to the measurement of pulsating flow nor does it cover the use of orifice plates in pipe sizes less than 50 mm or more than 1 000 mm, or for pipe Reynolds numbers below 5 000. Point 2 :- Even Though the standard does not give Guarantee below 5000 Reynolds number, it is users own responsibility to use it below this threshold with respect to accuracy pressure drop etc. So if for your application the Accuracy is acceptable and the pressure drop are acceptable then it is alright to have it. However major client reference ISO 5167 or API MPMS 14.3 and require compliance to them hence mentioned. I am curious, Can you share the service and the accuracy and pressure drop so even We can recommend clients to consider since it is proven in a plant. Thanks once again for your comment. 😊
