Cody, I just wanted to say thank you! I appreciate ALL of your posts. I've learned a lot and have gotten many ideas. I also VERY MUCH appreciate your faith and the comments you make about your Christianity and your relationship with God. Thank you for being a GREAT example. I pray that God would continue to bless you and pour out an anointing on ALL you do. Thanks for your devotion to your family and community. We share many similar things in life. I love God, love my family, serve my community as an AEMT, firefighter and a minister. Again, thank you and GOD BLESS YOU!

Your comment at the end hit home for me. I still remember the day I woke up (literally) one morning and decided I was tired of my parents always telling me to clean my room. I cleaned and organized everything and the next time my father came into my room the reaction on his face was enough to change my life. I've been organized ever since. Great video sir.

This video fed me twice. First, I have been thinking of small scale yarding alternatives. Second, I spent the entire labor day weekend organizing my garage with my boys. I have been so frustrated trying to find certain tools and even found out I own a couple tools twice (poor stewardship). I feel so much better and it will only pay dividends in the upcoming months. Thanks for some soul care as well.

You're fortunate that your wood doesn't rot quickly. Here, if you don't get it picked up within a few months (during the spring or summer), it will start to rot. Most of the logging that is done now, the remove everything, logs for timber, tops for cord wood, and the branches are placed over the wetlands to protect them from the logging equipment. Nice video. Thanks!

I'm a heathen, believer of the realities of the world around me and through the good ol' human inventiveness of the engineers at Sthil , I leave my saw on the hill I'm working on until I'm done there. Always under a log and covered with a spalt, but then I'm hiking in, no roads where I work. Sometimes for months when the snow comes unexpectedly and it's always the same; one easy pull to give everything a spin, one with the choke on and then one to run. Twenty years-0 problems. Thank you my fellow humans.

Great video Cody. I saw a device for lifting the end of skid logs that are used by guys using horses and mules for logging. It's a simple U shaped frame with wheels, the horses/mules are hitched via triple tree to a choker and then they skid the logs out. If you are going to continue your timber harvesting, you might consider making one, it might help relieving the strain on your winch.

I don't get you people. You all think that religion should be inside the church and nowhere else. A real man takes God wherever he goes and includes it into his everyday life. I can't understand why its so damn bad that he talks about his faith. Its a really sad time when its considered by people bad to be open about your religion, especially in the U.S or a place like the internet, where you can be anonymous and be a total jerk online, but a silent coward in real life. I bet none of you would tell him half the crap you say to his face, and this goes for everyone, not just wranglerstar.

InfinitePunch the nost people who are really annoying on the internet are the people who absolutly see it proven there is no god and the people who absolutly see it proven that there is a god, personally i believe in god, yet i cannot prove god exists therefore I believe in god, the same with not in god believing people, it is a believe as there is no proof of god not existing. The annoying part is that both sides hold there ground, which is ignorant of both. Believing is only possible in uncertainty, in uncertainty you will inevitably believe, therefore our life is a belief itself, as our very existence is an uncertainty

The only problem I have with religiousness in people is when they try to push their religion. Wranglerstar kind of does it a bit by implying that "if you're not doing it my way, you're doing it the wrong way", that people without religion are disorganized and cluttered, just because he used to be. And he gives all credit to his neatness to his faith instead of giving some credit to himself. That's fine in itself, but don't try to go and put that on me, telling me that I need God because I procrastinate and don't pick up after myself. I would be 100 % fine with him talking about his faith if he said it in a way that was more limiting to how it affected him personally, without suggesting that we need to do what he did.

I love to see the redeemed sharing their redemption, and doing it while making useful and edifying videos to boot. Even my wife enjoys watching your videos when I show her now. It's interesting that you talk about things being neat and orderly. I used to struggle with this (we have 5 kids, one on the way, and we homeschool, so you can imagine that our home is very lived in even when it's orderly), but God has been faithful to make my wife (and kids) my standard, and they have grown in this too

Thanks for sharing this, wranglerstar. It looks like carrying a split block is a great idea for anybody who uses a winch, and I will use your advice. Your commentary near the end of the video is something I will use as well. If the tools we use are bought with our labor, they are the product of the time our Creator has given. Since our time is finite, we should try to appreciate the gift and act as good stewards of our time, our tools, our homes, and especially our families. Each thing that you choose to spend your time on should be something worthwhile... since the expense counts against the gift of time. My best to you and your family, and thanks again.

Lacking a winch, I logged my homestead by myself, using the truck itself as the puller. I did use the same sort of cable, tackle, and chains. And sometimes had two or even up to 5 blocks in the setup. Nomenclature seems to have changed since the advent of the internet, though. What you called a clevis used to be called a shackle. A clevis was a particular kind of hook or apparatus that would grab a chain by slipping one link in sideways.

You've got to know that folks have the choice to turn away from the parts that they don't like. Your faith and your sharing of your faith are yours to do. And since you are really living your faith, rather than preaching, I find it inspirational and uplifting which is a thing I don't find from self-professed Christians often. Nice video, just one thing you could mention about your gear reduction is not only do you make your winch twice as strong, but you also distribute load on the "both" wires which allows to pull more load before the wire snaps.

Hearing your story of god and his influence at the end of your video was very inspirational. I enjoy your collection of videos and knowing that your style of living still exists. I one day aspire to have the resources to lead a similar life. God bless.

Have you tried using what my Dad called a Stone Boat? He used to use a horse drawn drag scoop, backwards, under the front of 3 or 4 logs, the shape of it would make the logs skip off or over rocks and stumps. By the time I was logging with horses, (I've never had a winch) I found that the front hood off a Volkswagen Beetle, or a 70s Ford truck was easier to find, and doubled the load the horse could comfortably drag...

Yes it will. I leave the truck to idle when I'm winching.

when you said you were using a choker i was expecting you to use a knob and bell not a slider and a hook its a lot easier with the hook but they like to come apart but for a one man operation they work fine just and other old logger that has your ideas in heart but you do it much better than i and io enjoy your vids please keep them coming
