ll actually had a clause in his contract as an actor stating he could never die in a movie. look at halloween h20 and mindhunters as further proof of this. he was adamant about a black character surviving the movie as well

I was 11 when this movie came out and my mother was 30. She snuck us in to a drive in movie theather by having us hide under the seats of her 1984 plymouth voyageur. I am now 36 and she has since passed away. Love you mom.

We did this as high schoolers when it was $10 carloads at the Starlight Drive-in here in Wichita. But we'd pack 4 in the trunk and 6 in the cab lol The place is still up and running though, need to go there one of these weekends.

With LL Cool J jabbing the hell out of the shark's eye with his cross, in the HIGHLY unlikely event that you ever find yourself attacked by a shark or a gator, that's actually a great method to get it to let go! 😂This movie is classic. I was always so happy LL Cool J lived to the end!

I liked that they made him the chef. Anyone who's worked in a kitchen knows that you have to be able to adapt and think on your feet in a stressful situation, so it makes sense that he's better at surviving than the scientists. He's also religious, so him using his cross to do exactly what he should have done also makes it seem like it was his faith coming through for him. Then again, living and working in a shark research facility, it's also pretty likely that he'd had conversations before about what to do in case of a shark attack. (And any time someone repeatedly stabs someone or something with a crucifix I can't help but think of The Exorcist.)

I absolutely adore the answer to the question 'what does a 2 ton mako shark with a brain the size of a flat head engine and no natural predators think about?'. It's the same as us in the same situation. We are apex predators and we are the smartest animals in the world. Think about it. If someone threw you into a prison but you found a way to break out and your captors couldn't fight back against you very well, what would be on your mind? Step 8: Freedom. Actually teared up a bit writing that because that's how ingrained it is in our DNA to seek freedom.

Saw this on my birthday. When Sam Jackson started his speech, all I could think was how funny it'd be if a shark suddenly ate him. When it happened, the entire theater screamed except for me. I was laughing so hard that I started wheezing and couldn't breathe for a minute. Best birthday present ever 😂

that's one thing to think about... ya, man is his own worst enemy, man is a monster, humans destroy humans and make them suffer, but, at least you're not getting eaten'ed to death, that is the one positive about man... (now, man will tear man to pieces/shreds, so that's not any different from getting "chomped on", but still, at least you're not being eaten'ed on top of getting torn/shred to pieces)

This is one of those movies that changed at the last minute thanks to the test audiences. Originally, the doctor lady in charge was going to make it, but the test audience said no, it's all her fault, she's gotta go! So they had her get et by the shark at the end. I actually hate that she didn’t make it, yea it was her fault, but cmon she had a noble cause, fck them sharks she ain’t do anything wrong, ya gotta crack a few eggs to make an omelette(an LL omelette lol), and ya gotta mess with a few sharks brains to cure Alzheimer’s I guess lol. Plus the way she thought to electrocute that shark was genius she did that like a boss and she was brave asf to use herself as bait in the end. She was dope she should’ve made it. She just should have listened to dude who was not underestimating the sharks who was more concerned about the fences and the safety and everything.

Fun fact: In the original ending of this movie, all 3 of the main characters survived at the end, including the female science lady Susan. But when they did the test screenings for the film, the audience did not like that ending at all. They did NOT want her to live. So they re-shot the ending to have her character killed off at the very end. It’s kinda understandable since her character was the one who caused all this, so it’s kinda fitting that she ends up dying too lol

if I remember right, they changed the ending of this movie, originally ll cool j died and the lady survived, but test auduences hated her and loved ll, so they reshot the ending to this one, which I definately prefer

Fun Fact: Originally it was the female scientist and the lead shark wrangler who are left alive, but test audiences hated that the female scientist survived after everything she has done, so they changed it and made her the last to get killed.

Love how the shark looked at and recognized Susan, before killing her. It's like it was letting her know that what she did was messed up. Also, the "you ate my bird" line always makes me smile and killing off Samuel L. Jackson's character right in the middle of his heroic, uplifting speech was a genius move by the filmmakers.

This came out just a year or so after the original "MEG" novel, and I remember leaving the theater thinking, "that was really fun, but they should have made a MEG movie instead; that would have been 10 times crazier". Fast forward 20 years and they finally made a "MEG" movie that was both a terrible adaptation of the book, and doesn't hold a candle to Deep Blue Sea as a shark movie. I'm still waiting for the "Neanderthal" adaptation I know we'll never get.
