A good guide on how to replace the axle on a 2014-2019 VW Beetle driver side. Probably similar to the passenger side.

Next time you have a stuck axle use a cheap ratcheting strap from harbor freight stuff it back behind the caller as you wrap it around it run the end out along the side of the car tie the strap around a sledgehammer and swing it like a golf ...club... I had to do that on a 2006 Nissan Altima... With a 36 Oz Sledge it still took me 11 swings... Was about to go buy a heavier one and it popped free

I love your channel 😁😁....I was wishing I could reach thru the screen to help hold down that control arm for ya lol. I've done that job so many times and always wished the Lord gave me 3 or 4 hands at that point. Keep up the awesome work 🇨🇦😁

Do you have problems buying parts that turn out to be bad out of the box or a lot of warranty claims costing you time and money .if so what percent of parts.

Nice job. I use a vise grip attachment for my slide hammer when the axles come apart like that.

I use a sledge hammer shaft to push the control arm down, that way you can put it under the body with out damaging the bodywork under the sill.

When you can't get an axle out - it helps to keep turning the shaft 90 degrees at a time - it helps the clip move around and release much easier...

They make slide hammer adaptors for channelocks so you can attach the channelock and use the slide hammer to to take out whatever part needed. Works great.

So! I have a Golf MK4 which and the beetle is on the same platform. My left side axel broke because the shackle that holds the rubber boot over the joint parted ways (on both sides, we will come to that later), water got into the rubber and the retaining clip that held the axle in the joint rusted away. Meaning, the axel slipped out at some point and ate some of the teeth of the axle. So, the left axle is full body. I just bought a new one amd installed it. Since I suspected the same to happen to the right side, I bought a right side axle and it came full bodied instead of hollow. So it was vibrating. Had to send it back and basically, you can't find them in hollow. So I had to search for the right boot and every shop was sending me the wrong part, intil, after weeks of discussions I got the right one and rebuilt that right side axel. Kinda incredible how much effort had to go into such a simple repair.

He is probably cheaper then most shops. However, honestly, nowadays when a ton of shops have decided its best to rip people off. Having a honest mechanic counts a lot more. Hell I seen KZfaq mechanics on here, try to justify ripping off customers and their fanboys agree. So I may not know about his pricing, but Roadside Rescue seems like an honest mechanic.

If you just undo the sway bar end link the control arm will just fall down out of the way so you don’t have to struggle trying to pull it down out of the way when you’re trying to install the new axle. Hope this will help save you time and energy the next time. 👍 keep up the good work
@stevemccooleq
@stevemccooleq 6 ай бұрын
No it won't. End links are connected to the strut on one end and the sway bar on the other. No connection to the control arm. Disconnecting an end link would have made no difference.

I found it better to remove the axle bolt before taking off the lug nuts and the bolt is a torque to yield on my 2013 bug and they are only a few bucks from the dealer.

Customers with cars like this one are not going to pay $600 for the axle. The Chinese made ones are hit and miss. I put a Chinese made Detroit Axle one on my daughter's Focus and it has held up well. But many cheap ones do fail early.
@ricebike
@ricebike 6 ай бұрын
@@stevemccooleqoh I didn't know Detroit axle sold out as well... The good thing about them is they'll back these chinesium parts with a decent warranty Son's 2007 Mazda 3 with front complete struts and sway bar end links, for example, 10 year warranty With the age of this car, I don't mind the price vs an OEM supplier for this type of parts Electronic stuff, definitely OEM if available 👍
@deepsquat600
@deepsquat600 6 ай бұрын
@@stevemccooleq exactly I always like how some posters spend other people's money.... All you have to do is use one with the longest warranty you can get and they tend to be a little bit better quality...
