As I just turned 69 ,I sit here watching you love this, I remember myself sitting on my bed in my room with black light, headphones on and rocking to Zeppelin 🥰🥰🥰. Who would've thought this many years later I'd be watching younger generation enjoying what I did as a teen❤️❤️❤️. Great reaction

Man, I just love how Robert Plant is able to go from whispering to yelling in a matter of seconds. I love this band so damn much. The energy in this song is insane and you can hear the passion, they had everything to prove in this album. 53 years later and it still sounds amazing!

Haha, yeah, i recall one critic said once something like that Plant's voice could be the sonic equivalent of a feather floating down to a sun-lit meadow, but then turn around and instantly freeze into silence a crowd of 20,000 with a single shout of "HEY!" GOATS, GOATS, GOATS.

I think it's difficult to convey what led zeppelin were trying to achieve. They were an extremely experimental band. Their music doesn't fit into any single rock genre and they are very protective of their music.

And this was from their first album, when they were just starting out on their musical odyssey, nobody knew if there was more to come from them after this album. This song hits different, it's so accomplished in its structure and delivery and is an early masterpiece from a group that would go on to become behemoths in the world of rock. They were a one off and we haven't heard their equal since.

When I brought this home and played it the first time in my bedroom, my Mum who was of the Glenn Miller generation, literally WW2 music, always convinced I just listened to loud incomprehensible music. stood outside my bedroom door and listened to the WHOLE ALBUM; when it was done, she poked her head around the door and said "Who was THAT?"; I said "Led Zeppelin".......she said "They are very very good!"........praise indeed!

@@pattyandersen5516 so good to share, it’s importance cannot be understated, I’m so sorry you were orphaned although with God you’re never really an orphan in the truest sense…..Zeppelin had a sense of nostalgia in their music, as well as allusions to Tolkien and their sounds draw in people from every era, every genre of music; God bless you in every way, I’d love to visit Alaska, from what I see it’s a beautiful place if wilder than most parts of the world!! I first heard this song in the late 1960's. It was the first Zeppelin song I ever heard. I was blown away. I did not have the money to buy the album and I did not get my allowance until the end of the month. I had to have that album, so I ended up washing and waxing my dad's car for $2.OO and made up the difference of 60 cents with my own money. Over the next week I wore that album out. Even today I will sit down and listen to that album, beginning to end, and I'am still amazed.

it's not the tempo that changes, this song is at one basic tempo, about 140 beats per minute, almost from start to finish, it's Zeppelin's ability to swing the dynamics from quiet gentle and acoustic to the loudest heaviest rock so easily, that sets LZ apart. It's a feature of most of their best songs.

This is based on a folk song that Joan Baez covered, so folk is the main input here, and Zeppelin made the song about double in length by adding the hard rock instrumentals. Before the band formed, Jimmy Page used to play this song during his own private time, and it's a song he brought to their first album, along with "Dazed and Confused." Also on this debut album is "Good Times Bad Times."

This whole album is a masterpiece. Maybe the best debut ever. This song is a seamless mashup of blues, rock and roll, and Celtic folk. This combination is what gave their music a greater depth than their blues based rock contemporaries. Robert Plant’s vocal on this gives me goosebumps. This was originally a folk song written by Annie Bredon, and covered in the 60's by folk singer Joan Baez... Robert Plant & Jimmy Page were big fans of Joan Baez. In 1968, when Led Zeppelin first got together, they didn't have enough original songs for the first record... so they covered "Babe I'm gonna leave you" w/ re-arrangements - Robert Plant adding some lyrics and Jimmy Page giving the track a heavy riff w/ John Bonham's pounding drums. It became a stellar classic 🤘🤘🔥🔥

That really touched me that you enjoyed that so much. I'm tearing up lol. I think I sometimes forget this is one of my favorite Zep songs. But of course, that's because they are my favorite band of all time, and there are just SO many masterpieces. I really enjoyed listening to this with you guys tonight. Thank you. Love you. I'm pretty sure you haven't done my personal favorite Zep song, because I'd remember it. None of my reactors ever do it. "Misty Mountain Hop". You would make my whole day if you ever decide to do that one.

Truly one to be thought of as 'their best'! Remember that this was only the second song on their first album...for many people it was their first intro to Zeppelin. My favorite thing is the end, where they proceed to slow it down and 'put the song to bed'. True genius!

LZ songs that showcase Plant's voice: You Shook Me, Since I've Been Loving You, The Ocean, Black Dog, Misty Mountain Hop, Whole Lotta Love, just to name a few to pick from. You Shook Me has great display of Plant's high notes. Since I've Been Loving You shows his massive range, his power, and his sweet high notes, and The Ocean is one song where he almost sounds soprano.

Great reaction! This song is brilliant! Robert Plant has said that his favorite vocal performance was the studio version of Since I’ve Been Loving You off Zeppelin III… another masterpiece. Jay reacted to the live version (also great but not as good as the studio version) about a year ago but I would definitely check out the studio version if you want to be blown away… Just saying 😉

I too was 18 years old in 1969 & bought this album straight away on release. I was stunned. For me it is still the best of their albums & this probably the best tune on that album. I believe it is the blues influence at work. It is such a pleasure seeing it work on you.

I remember hearing this song on the radio in the late sixties and the seventies, but I didn't know until looking it up just now that it's a 1968 cover of a 1958 song by folk singer Anne Bredon that was popularized by Joan Baez in 1962. Now, I'm going to go listen to those earlier versions.

Jordan leaning back in his chair as Plant sings, "Babe, babe, babe, babe, babe, babe, baby, uh baby, I don't want to leave you" is exactly what those lyrics and voice do to me. As does hearing Plant faintly crying out, "I can hear it calling me," in the background before the full force lyric.
