Getting the screen popups out to another PC was always a pain. Fiddled with VNC. Fiddled with RTMP streams. That was never satisfying and very hacky. Glad to see some awareness for this raising.

What I would actually like to see is XP12's G1000 Brought up to the quality of Working Title's. Right now it just looks crappy in comparison and (I think) missing some of the functionality.

Used the popout manager when it first came out. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get it to work for the past few months. I've read that the next sim update is going to include remembering locations of popouts (so a popout to a hardware bezel or another monitor). Hoping that's the case.

Is this different (has advantages), in the end, to using something like Spacedesk to add your spare tablets as additional monitors in Windows, then Show(ing) Air Manager panels into one/more tablets?

Hi I was trying to get the pop out panels set up with a physical g1000 panel I purchased but I cannot seem to get the screen without the frame of the controls and was wondering how you did this. When I click the panel to pop it out the controls are affixed to it.

Thanks Russ for the great video. Looking forward to try Air Manager 4.2. Just a question. When you pop-up your instrument on another computer, as you show on the video, can you use a touchscreen monitor on the second computer and select the buttons? And the computer running xplane 12 can react to the button press (on the screen of the monitor of the second computer)? I will be very interested in a video with the details of your setup. Thanks again for the great content of your channel.

Yes since the second computer is running Air Manager it’s controls are connected to the Sim. Unfortunately if you streamed out a touch screen Instrument like the GTN750 the touch inputs would no be reflected in the sim. Since XP12 currently has no such problems instruments that isn’t an issue and it could be addressed by Laminar or Sim Innovations later.

Hey Russ, you do an amazing job with all this and I really appreciate your videos. Can I ask for a video or direction to a video that may already exist? Would you make a video showing how to stream X-Plane instrument display onto other computer that has Air Manager on it and into the display needed there? I have 5 screens, 3 for visuals and two with touch screens on the cockpit dashboard. I moved the two touch screens with a second copy of Air Manager over two second pc, and have the real time data input like knobster turning knobs on PFD, but cannot figure out how to display instrument screen onto touchscreen. Help please.

Hi Russ, set up my system for XPlane 11 using another copy of the sim on my laptop with Air Manager also installed on the laptop a 15.6” touch screen also connected. I have three 32” monitors connected to my pc successfully using XP’s multi-screen settings. PC and laptop are separately hard wired to the internet and both connected to XP11 using the XP master/slave settings. It is simple to move the popout s from the PC monitors to the laptop monitor Whilst running MSFS on additional monitors settings, I cannot move the popouts from the PC monitor to the laptop monitor. How can I do the same as XP11 on MSFS, in other words how to connect both PC and laptop on MSFS?

That would also result in a significant FPS performance boost for those of us running 5 monitor cockpits. Handing off two of those monitors to a local laptops would help big time with the "limited by main thread" issue encountered when running 5 monitors.

I offloaded two of my screens by using cheap android tablets and Spacedesk streaming software. Now I've got 4 monitors plus the 2 tablets.

But really that should be completely unnecessary. Think about it. If you can "stream" to another laptop or run another instance on another computer, you should effectively be able to do the same thing with multiple processes running on the same computer. A good first step would be to allow multiple instances of XPlane to run on the same PC. The next step would be to use Interprocess Comunication (IPC) to allow those multiple instances to communicate without having to go through TCP. Finally, implement the application with modern thread pooling and synchronization. It is baffling to me that they are trying to sell the fact that trees look better in an application where you're up in the air and the trees are smudges 99% of the time. Frame rate is far more important.

Hi Russ, thanks for that video again, will you at some point do a little demo on how to setup that . I install 4.2 Beta, the remote screen is working but I do not see how to get the G1000 in that remote screen.

Really appreciate your videos. I am trying to use an older ipad for my 3rd screen using AM 4.1 for ipad, but am having trouble getting the bezel on the ipad and adding the G1000 panel. Do I need to wait for 4.2 to come out of beta to achieve this or will the old ipad just not work?

With XP12 and AM 4.2 you will be able to use a bezel with a canvas that the G1000 can be streamed on. The updated G1000 instrument will have to be loaded into the iPad app in a future update

Russ, thanks for the video. Are the other instrument screens also going to be available through the API ? So far the original pop-ups have always been limited to G1000, GNS430, GNS530 and CDU (Zibo mod does not work). At least MSFS does have all the screen elements available as pop-ups so indeed would be ideal if they would be made available via API.

Hey Russ... would you mind sharing the modification to your own g1000 generic instrument on air-manager, so we can see how you use the video_stream_add function available on the AirManager 4.2 beta? Thanks. At position 2:40 on your video, there's a display of the instantiation of both the streaming version and overlay versions of the Generic G1000, on air-manager... I can't seem to find the Streaming version on the online store instruments download... Running the same AirManager 4.2 Beta 8... Thanks for the help.

FYI, MSFS2020 does allow this now, plus also supports Air Manger v4.2 and Simbox for civilian airliner aircraft???

Mr. Barlow: I've watched a couple of your videos and being a Full Scale Pilot & a Nub to Flight Syms Would it be Possible to Get a list of components you use for you flight sym set up. i.e. Yoke, Throttle Quadrant, Rudder Pedals, Screens (Make model No.) and anything need to make a Sym Cockpit. I have a XPlane 11, Turtle Beach FS one, Logict Ruder Pedale & Turtle Beach Joystick, But in the year I have had them not been able to get them up and running. I just want to be able to Shoot ILS, VOR, GPS, Approaches on a 6 pack Panel and Glass. Don't need/want to be a hardware nor sym setup expert just want to fly.

Not really sure but the beta is on the wiki now to use. It will install separately from your current version and not affect it so you can run either version if you’d like to try it out. Wasn't the ability to make the pop out pannels full screen already available? Like you can hit the full screen macro on fs2020 and it automatically fits the pop out image to the glass cockpit. There are many more things that x plane gets right then this.

Thank goodness there is a way to have readable instrument in XPlane 12 - despite thousands of comments the developers can’t grasp the fact the the AVIONICS are emissive so the lighting model does not cater for this . A real pity from an xPlane fanboy for the last 14 years .

Thanks Russ. This is good for XP. Big fan of X-Plane and XP users. Over 20 yrs. I still purchase products to help them survive even tho not using. Sadly.... had to go to MSFS 4 months ago due to poor performance of XP12 on 3 monitor wide/touchscreens/Air Manager, even in HD. I am getting a very smooth experience in mfs on 2080ti/i9 with 3 mons at 1440p and 1 HD touchscreen/knobster. This is mainly due to DLSS (performance setting) in MFS. LR will simply have to pay license fee for DLSS 1.3 which is available for Vulcan, IMO, to survive. Maybe they already are. Not sure. But judging by latest test of XP12 with my system they haven't improved perf. There are many pro features of XP that I miss, but unfortunately, poor perf on 3 monitor systems/AM is a deal breaker.

They could do this on fsx same with a good replay system which is something msfs has failed miserably.

Hi Russ, just tried this out and seems to work straight away. One issue I'm having is, that on the PFD the background is black (instead of brown and blue) and the attitude indicator is barely readable due to way to many lines for all the angles. And on the MFD the right side with the map works fine, but on the left side where the engine instruments should be I only see a black background. Any idea what might be the cause of this? I'm flying the Diamond DA42 NG by Aerobask

Yes some of the non Laminar aircraft modify the textures for the glass displays and draw over them in a way that they don’t get popped out and streamed. Hopefully Aerobask will fix this. I assume the pop up and pop out PFD/MFD look the same in the streamed image?

I have the same problem. Before Pop Weasel, manually popping out TorqueSim SR22 G1000s was a pain, but at least they looked the same as the one in the cockpit. Pop Weasel succeeds in teaching X-Plane where to position the pop-outs automatically at sim startup. However, I too get the black-background' and missing horizon on the popped-out PFD. Interestingly, the PFD in the cockpit remains as normal.

Not sure but the beta is available on the wiki and can be installed separately from the release version and you can switch back and forth. The G1000 and G530 and G430 instruments have been modified to automatically display the streamed screens when using XP12. Remember to install the beta plugin in your sim too.

Hi Russ, I agree with you, why does MS,Asobo or other do not release the code to configure an API. What exactly is stopping them, is it a security concern? I have setup instruments for PA28, EMB110, (and now working on DC3) all running from a separate PC to MSFS2020 using the SimInnovation PlugIn. I have contemplated putting AM on the same PC as the Sim but have been put off as you can only change the license once (I think) and I don't have the budget to buy another license. I am glad AM4.2 simplifies the process for XPlane 12 and wish FS2020 has this feature.

You can change the license yourself 3 times… no guarantee but if you contact them they may allow you an additional reset if you explain your situation and convince them you are not trying to abuse the licensing agreement. You have three remaining now. You could also buy Air Player to run on another computer for only 30€. It can run the panels you upload from Air Manager and once loaded you can run it stand alone even if Air Manager is not running. How can I reset / deactivate my license and transfer it to another computer? Your license is connected to the hardware ID of your computer. You are entitled to 3 resets per license. @@rbarlow Cheers Russ, for now, I will stick with AM on my other PC, I will look in to the Air Player, for 30 Euros thats not bad! I must confess it would be wonderful if FS2020 sorted the screen API code. It took a while to find the page to vote and its a shame the MS Forum don't make it easy hey - LOL. I downloaded AM4.2 Beta 8 and the Beta Plugin, cloned a G1000 and inserted the line in the code, but it does not work for me... A little help would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

If you look at the script there are a couple conditional statements ) if statements) that determine if the blue screens that warns on mobile that pop up won’t work. Judo place the line anywhere after those and before the bezel is loaded. I need to modify the script to allow the choice of streaming the PFD or the MFD. it this should work to get you going. If that is not helpful tell me and tomorrow I will try to fix the script permanently

@@rbarlow Thanks for your reply! I did try that when I first pasted the line in the script. I did it again from a fresh clone of the Generic G1000 and still no luck. I think I might be missing something. I'm using a Macbook Pro M1 Pro with the latest XP version and the 4.1 plugin (could not find a 4.2 Plugin) and for Air Manager I'm using a Win10 PC with two 19" touchscreens running AM 4.2 Beta 8. I'm not sure if the line: my_video_stream = video_stream_add("xpl/G1000_PFD_1", 0, 0, 1024, 768) should be pasted as is or if I should modify the numbers so they match the blue screen canvas size. Anyway I tried both ways and still didn't work. I might still be missing something... I'm really looking forward to having this feature working, that was one of the main reasons I got my two touchscreens.. If you could find some time to share the script or show us how to do it, we will really appreciate it. Thanks!

If the mcdu for the pmdg via avia can be used remotely on a touch pad, fbw also does it, why cant all panels be used that way?

Because the avia cdu renders the picture itself, based on very little information, basically only what text to display on each line. Rendering a full G1000 picture is much more involved. Better have MSFS render the picture, it does so anyway, and have 3rd party programs have access to that picture, just as Russ suggests.

Russ. I run 3 external 50" TV's and a RealSimGear PFD and MFD in the panel. I can also swap out the RSG panels for 15" touch screens if I wish. The real killer in X-Plane 12 for me is the frame rate hit you get when adding the 4th and 5th monitors. I run them using my on board graphics card but I still get a huge frame rate loss. 15-20fps less than I was getting previously on XP-11. On MSFS however, I see a negligable frame rate hit when using the on-board graphics to display the 4th and 5th monitor. Not sure what MSFS is doing that X-Plane can't seem to figure out. This new setup with Air Manager 4.2 seems to be a hopeful solution to the X-Plane 12 frame rate woes. Will it require buying an additional Air Manager license if I want to run it on two different PC's?

You should never use your mother board video when using a video card. Add an equal video card and use those.

@@thatguy7085as far as I know only the primary GPU is used for the rendering. The second GPU will be basicly idle, as it will not be rendering. It will just be displaying what the primary GPU rendered

I use the USB-based laptop external video adapter that Russ reviewed some time back to run two 15” touch screens for AirManager w/pop-outs and there’s negligible frame rate hits under XP 11 or 12.

@@GibsonCRG Yes, I use a similar displaylink USB video adapter for running my dual touchscreens. The only issue is that it is not compatible with my Tobii head tracker. I have to stop the displays, start the tobii software and then re-enable the displays. If I don't do this I get an "Unable to find game window" error in Tobii.

@@thatguy7085 My Mama taught me never to say "never" or "always". In this case I must politely disagree with you regarding using on-board graphics to display cockpit instruments. Les O'Reilly has a video out titled: "MSFS | Fix FPS Loss on Pop Out Screens" that shows just how effective using on-board graphics can be in MSFS. I have a home-built cockpit setup and I have been using integrated graphics to run my 4th and 5th monitors for years in both MSFS and X-Plane 11. In MSFS, I see little to no FPS loss. X-Plane 12 is a different story. Not sure if it is a Vulcan issue or what. If Air Manager 4.2 does what it claims to do, this will be a welcome fix.

Instead what I'd request would be ortho in x-plane. I will alway support an underdog instead of big corporations, and frankly speaking physics of x-plane is superior making it a preferred choice for students.

@srbarlow while we're talking about things MDFD can't do, which x-plane can, my biggest issue at the moment is not knowing of any way to disable the cockpit in MSFS. There is a "Home Cockpit Mode: setting, but it doesn't seem to do anything for me and many other people I see complaining about it. I've seen other people suggest moving the camera view out in front of the cowling, but it seems like that that wouldn't have the right perspective or end up being a good user experience. If there is a way to disable the cockpit, Russ Barlow would know. Thanks!

Yes that is the only hack I know of. Good luck getting Microsobo to fix that....they fix things based on a voting system and home cockpit builders are a small demographic of MSFS users.

@@rbarlow In MSFS, by holding RIGHT ALT + LEFT CLICKING some instrumentation panels, these panels will pop out as floating windows that can be moved to a different screen location or different monitor.

I don't know how you're getting such a fluid response. In Xplane 12, I can dumb the whole thing down visually and I still take a significant hit for adding additional monitors. With 3 monitors fps is in the 20s. I'm using a pretty high end Comet from XForcePC with an RTX 3080. It should be able to do this no problem. I get low frame rates with "the single" core/thread that Xplane uses not even remotely maxed out and the GPU not even close to maxed out. X-plane 12 does not run reasonably on AMD 7900xtx, not sure about other AMD cards.

That is AMD's top card. How does fps compare to comparable Nvidia card e.g. 4080 (you'd need to fly in same location & conditions as the reviewers)? Additionally, FS2020 is very CPU intensive - might that be the reason?

@@ChrisM541 FS 2020 does fine. I am not that picky about fps. X-Plane 12 is around 14 fps in VR in New York. It was 40 on the 3080 in the same conditions and same spot on the map.

@@kindpanda1075 That difference, and in favour of the weaker 3080, is waaaay to large considering we're talking 3080 (not even 4080) vs the top end 7900xtx. That wasn't an apples : apples comparison ;)

@@ChrisM541 I am not a tech reviewer. I bought the 7900xtx because despite the 3080's great performance in X-Plane 12 in VR, it would crash in that and two other games due to lack of VRAM. I would say my disappointment is extreme. Also the RT performance in Cyberpunk is less than it was with the 3080. I am not happy with FSR vs DLSS either. I am just really unhappy... Anyway I hope to at least set expectations for anyone thinking the same thing I had been. Also in case it was unclear MSFS 2020 has very good performance on the 7900xtx, and it fixed Asgard's Wrath (1) running out of VRAM and low FPS. Still very disappointed.

True. Don’t see how XP12 can compete for the mass gamer market. If they can button things up it may work for real life Flight training where the scenery isn’t that critical.

MSFS has been quite disappointing for me. Except the graphics it‘s a step backwards on allmost every aspect. And the better graphics doesn‘t really add that much more to the experience, except for casual-gamers (i would actually recommand MSFS for someone being new to flightsims and doesn’t have a big experience of aviation or sims). Here a list of meh-things: The inacurately simulated atmosphere, lack of turbulences in clouds (even in a hurricane!), no auto-replay, almost no inertia of planes, no weather-radars, bad ground-steering, strange lense-distortions, missing tower- and runway-view, limited camera too complicated to use, missing or very bad simulated popout screens (example Fenix lol), missing wake-turbulences, no simulated true altitude based on ISA-variations, inferior flightmodel, inferior default airports, frozen lakes everywhere in winter, brake coefficient almost the same (even on ice). And now with your video i just discovered another thing missing. I really hope that MSFS will not only focus 99% on graphics and catch up on all these things in future otherwise i don‘t know how i could go back to it. And I do wish XP12 to improve on some aspects like strange cloud-artifacts, black or invisible clouds at night and shadows/antialiasing. The ground textures being the very last one i care of.

@@solomoncyj I dont know what you exactly mean but it runs great on 4070 Ti with Frame Gen. 80 FPS with 60% load.

@@michaeljablonowski5014 60% is bad. It should be at 99-100%. I have the same card and also get 60% utilization and like 40% cpu utilization. All that means is that msfs is poorly optimized. We get good frame rates most of the time yet the sim still drops frames when moving a lot causing stuttering. Plus they could have a better frame rate with better utilization. My friend has a 3080 and has the same problem as me.

Ok, so I've seen a lot of the videos here, but how in the hell was he getting a full-size G1000 PFD/MFD on separate touchscreens and have them work with the knobster? Also, does anyone have a G1000 setup for a 172S? I am an IR student and don't have hours per day trying to sort this out. Also also...when is AM 4.2 coming out?

The Knobster is talking to the sim, not whatever you have running the G1000 visuals on.
