One whole year of cancer.
Malin & Tom
It's been a whole year since Malin was diagnosed with an aggressive form of colorectal cancer. After many doctors visits, scans, and examinations, it was confirmed that Malin has a large cancerous tumour in her colon, and there began the long, tough battle against cancer.
At just 29 years old with 2 very young children, our lives were turned upside down. Nobody deserves to engage in the long battle with cancer, but cancer at a young age with small children feels like the biggest challenge we would ever face. Malin fought her way through radiation therapy, several rounds of chemotherapy, 2 major operations and many hospital visits, to finally be told that she was 'cancer-free.' This is our story.

Who are we?
------
We are a young 'Swenglish' adventure family, that consists of Swedish Malin, English Tom, and babies Charlie & Isabella, who are half and half. We love all kinds of adventures, including travelling around Sweden and beyond in our little budget family campervan, and we're currently building our dream campervan project.
But right now we’re focused on one thing: to be free of cancer. We've been on the journey to recover since Malin received her colorectal cancer diagnosis in late 2022.

Malin, I was 34 when I met a man who encouraged me to do what it took me four years to do - to move out of the US and to Scotland - I am grateful every day that I acted upon his encouragement. So while you had a terrible year of illness that led you to say 'live the life you want to live', that is a very important lesson to remember for any reason whatsoever at any time of life. You have certainly gone through a dreadful time and I keep praying that you are soon going to be given help to get even better. But you and Tom are the best parents for those sweet little children and I totally love and respect how you two love and respect those children. I pray that good things will arrive and your little family can be doing life in different places.

Thank you for sharing Malin and Tom. Ive followed your journey because its very close to my heart what you are going through. My younger sister also had bowel cancer but lost her battle at age 39 leaving three young daughters. I was with her all the way but was left incredibly angry as hers was misdiagnosed as IBS and she died as a result It was a slow growing tumour which, caught early, very responsive to treatment. Yes…. Our family learnt to treasure each day and to step up and take control of our well being. No one cares about your health as much as you do…. Listen to your instincts and get a 2nd, 3rd or more opinion. Bang on doors till you get help and answers. Your family are your strength and can help you heal more than any medication. Love moves mountains and you are surrounded by lots of that. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

NOT an easy year, but You did it, you both did it! Tom has been such a nice partner taking care of you, the kids, the everything things around the house etc. and can't forget your parents, coming over all the time you help you both as well. Glad it's all over and hoping it just remains in your past. Wishing you much good health, you deserve it. Don't think we ever saw you upset for everything you had to endure through this past year. big hug.

Thank you for re capping this year of surviving cancer. I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma a year ago also. I did have radiation therapy and induction chemo and immunotherapy…. Then I had high dose chemo and a stem cell transplant. My cancer isn’t curable but I am well and on no therapies at this time. I’m older so not caring for children etc. I pray for you guys so much!

Malin, what a beautiful video of such an awful thing! ...truly! You both told the story of "a year..." with so much love throughout (love for eachother, for the children, for life) and with respect for one another and "the littles"! God bless you. I WILL put you in my daily prayers -- "truth be told", I haven't done it yet (🤭I just met you at the beginning of the vid!) but I'm a girl of my word!☺🙏🙏 Thank you for sharing your journey/s! . . .+ beautifully! Health, happiness, and -- well -- *somewhere with warmer weather, in 2024!

Thank you. I’ve followed from the beginning. I’ve had a hard slog in life after having a major stroke at 35 and losing most of my sight and my mobility. So many of us here are survivors and quiet warriors and living each day the best way we can. You are an inspiration and your channel helps and supports so many of us. You are so respectful of others and of course of your lovely children’s, it’s a beautiful thing to parent together and to raise children to be proud of themselves and who they are. That’s the meaning of life really, love, respect, kindness, integrity and spirit of adventure with much laughter. Here’s to a much brighter future.

It's been one year for me too and I'm very frustrated, because cancer steals all your goals, hopes and dreams. Had to attend to these weekly appointments at the hospital to get chemo and blood test and I'm annoyed by this. I just want people to leave me alone and I did NOT sign up for this either. Not to mention 3 years ago too I was hit by a vehicle and had to do all this assessments and physio and just when all this is about to be completed, this leukemia had to waltz in out of no where and spoiled my year of 2023. Seeing my friends & peers posting pic of them having fun on social media and meanwhile having to sit here seeing that and missing out kinda kills me. Cancer is the ULTIMATE Cuckblocker.

Unfortunately it took my cancer diagnosis earlier this year at 31 years old to want to start living and stop being suicidal, but now I am too sick to do anything. I don’t just have cancer, I was born disabled and developed chronic health conditions over the years. The cancer is just the straw that broke the camels back for me. I have spent most of my life bedridden and wanting to die, now I want to LIVE. Cancer took my horse right before I was diagnosed, cancer has taken my family members, my pets and now it is trying to take me but I won’t go down without a fight. What you said at the end of the video is what EVERYONE needs to hear.

I have watched your videos and just want to say how sorry I that you had to go through this. It had to be so frustrating when the doctors originally dismissed your pain because of your age, etc. You are very strong, and it amazed me that you were able to do some of those summer trips in the van. I am glad you had family members nearby who could watch your children. Your children are surrounded by a lot of love. 2023 is almost over, and 2024 will be a new and better year. I am not sure if you need to have CAT scans every few months or not. So maybe it's best you are there right now near the hospital. Praying for a healthy, happy, and safe year for your future. There is a lot of love and support for you in your KZfaq family ❤❤

Wow you said something that I also questioned and 20+ years later I still wonder. I was 33 and had exact journey you did. Did I really have cancer? Was it real? I ended up asking to see the tumor but still couldn't get my head around it. I also made sure my treatment worked around kids never knowing I was missing during the day .But yes I did follow my dreams and stopped fearing life, went to university as a older student, relocated to a city then moved countries and wow what a journey so in some weird way cancer helped me live my best life. Thank you and look forward to seeing your adventures.

I imagine it was probably healing to reflect and put words to your experiences with cancer. Wishing you a happy Saint Lucia day ,merry Christmas and warm shores and health for 2024. Your children are lucky to have you. Not all kids get parents who cherish them and honour them so they will be well. Children with parents with illness (of which there are many ) who are honest with them , protect them as much as possible, but also teach them are ones who are probably very prepared for all that life brings. We know that adversity is part of living and they learn as they watch you both navigate this part of your lives with respect and love. Fear and uncertainty are often present, and you have helped to create a world where there is support and love for you and your family

Hi Malin and Tom Thank you so much for relating your story as that course of treatment was definitely brutal but it turned out to nip this in the bud so to speak. I can understand why they reverse this treatment in Sweden and sounds much better to what we do over here in Uk. I knew that you would recover from this as you are a very strong person and had a strong attitude to this treatment. Your family was very understanding and stuck with it all the way Much love and respect from across the pond in Uk x

Journey as most do not. Malin, would you consider doing a video in depth on your comping and caring for your stoma? I’ve only seen one lady share in depth about the care of hers and she does an amazing videos re: her stoma bag care etc and complications. I know it can be a very sensitive topic, but I believe that it would ease and help many others that are going thru the same type of Ca. As you. Also, what all did they have to remove? I know it was some of your colon and hysterectomy? Love you both so much. And thank you for protecting your babies from the word Cancer. And their privacy. Stay warm and prayers you are feeling better and had an amazing Blessed, fun Thanksgiving. Love you both, Karla in Oklahoma

Thanks so much Karla 🧡 we’ve actually got a video like that in the pipeline! We think it’s an interesting and important thing to talk about, so we’ll be making a video about how it is to have a stoma when living in a van/being out camping etc. soon hopefully! They removed the entire colon, uterus and fallopian tubes but left the ovaries, hoping that they would help hormone levels.

Hope you’re doing well now! How was your treatment at QMC? I (Tom) am from Nottinghamshire and unfortunately know Queens Med quite well.
