2014 JSW TDI here. Nearly two years and 30,000 miles into my ownership, I’m happy with no regrets. The only hiccup I’ve had (and admittedly, it’s a large one, although covered by the emissions warranty) was the failure of the HPFP - a $4,500 repair completed on VW’s dime (thanks emissions warranty) at my local VW dealer. Haven’t had issues with the notoriously troublesome pano sunroof (yet), although I’m considering getting the sunroof drains cleaned to preempt any problems down the road.

I have owned my 2014 Golf TDI for 2 years now. So far no probs but I would like to trade it in next year though. Has 41k miles on it with a KermaTDI tune and DSG tune.

I currently have a 2015 Golf TDI -- having sold back not one, but two TDI's -- a 2011 Jetta Wagon and a 2015 Passat. The Jetta was replaced by a 2015 MB ML250 (diesel) and the Passat by the Golf. I got my Golf (in early 2018) from Carvana. They had a large selection of TDIs -- as though they'd made a deal with VW (but don't "quote" me on that -- just a thought). They still seem to be a good source of TDIs (Carmax, on the other hand, seems not to want to have anything to do with TDIs -- though, they are where we found the ML250 in late 2017). My Golf has had no problems -- at least not yet. I don't drive it that much -- 34k when purchased and only 42k now. I've owned an 2002 Jetta TDI, 2006 Jetta TDI, 2011 Jetta Sportwagen TDI, 2015 Passat TDI and now the 2015 Golf TDI. We had our sights on a Golf Alltrack TDI -- but dieselgate dashed that dream. I still love the TDI engine -- and I'm sorry they decided to pull it from the US market.

Excellent video. I also purchased a CPO JSW TDI a little over a year ago. It had 50k miles and I have put 30k more on it. Unfortunately, I have had quite a few issues with the car, but overall it's been a decent car. My dashboard is also warping up by the defroster vents, but I haven't brought that up to the dealer yet. I have had the same cold start rough running issue that you describe. It seems to happen once the temperature warms up quickly above freezing. It has only happened a few times, but next time I visit the dealer I will see about getting the intercooler icing kit done. The sunroof has not leaked but did rattle. This was fixed with a new sunroof frame. The car has had multiple check engine lights. This resulted in a glow plug module being replaced and a DPF filter being ordered. The DPF code hasn't come back yet, so I haven't had it replaced yet. It has also had three of the springs replaced as well as a strut. The spring breaking issue seems to be common with these cars and I suspect the New England dirt roads haven't been kind to them. I still like the way the car drives. It's very practical and is a great all-round car. I just wish it didn't break so often. Visiting the VW dealer every month or so has gotten old. The last few months have been good. (fingers crossed) I'm glad I got the CPO warranty and I have 50k miles left of emission warranty to go. Hopefully, it is reliable for the remainder of that. Good luck with your car.

Thanks for the comment! Thus far, I haven't had the spring issue, but have been made aware of it by a VW tech friend of mine. If a spring breaks, I plan on using it as my excuse to buy VWR springs. OEM quality, with a slightly lower ride height.

I have had the same experiences you have had, 9 dealer visits in 10 months. Love it when it's on the road, but 25 days in a dealership thus far...battery issues, DPF, engine lights galore. Try contacting VW care to put in a compensation claim.

I have lifted and put Bilstein shocks & struts my 2014 Jetta Sportswagon MK6 TDI and put all weather Toyo Tires on it. Big ride improvement, easier to get in & out being up off the road more. Glad I did not get one with the sunroof as originally planned.

Purchased a brand new 2015 Passat TDI in May 2017 and it has 37k miles now. Haven't had a single problem with it yet and 45mpg is easily achievable. I'm happy with the car, but that upcoming 40k service will be a pretty penny.

I bought a dieselgate 2014 Passat TDI SEL Premium from a local used car dealership. I paid about $10K for the car out the door with 38K miles which I thought was a bargain. I lover the car but mine had several problems from the get go. I bought it in winter so didn't use the AC for a couple months (or the heater really because the weather is fairly pleasant in SoCal). When it started to heat up I noticed that the AC was not blowing cold air. I took it back to the dealer and they checked the AC system and found it needed new hoses and an AC recharge. That fix only lasted a few weeks before the AC was blowing warm air again. I took it back and they kept the car for two days testing it. Finally they said the condenser was the problem and that they would fix it for free. I've driven the car for close to 10K miles and the AC still works perfectly. I brought the car to my local VW dealership for the 40K service. This is a major service interval so I didn't want to miss it. A few weeks later the engine light came on and it turned out to be a DPF performance fault code. I took it back to the dealership and they did their diagnostics to find that the heater core was faulty. For some reason, after they have replaced the heater core, it seams like I'm always interrupting the regen cycle. I could drive the car for two hours but the moment I park it I hear the fans blowing and I could tell the car is doing its regen thing. This is extremely annoying because I was told that too many interruptions can lead to heater core failure which I've already experienced once. The other issues are turbo lag and poor fuel economy. The car has a very annoying hesitation every time I step on the gas from a dead stop. Then, the turbo suddenly kicks in and the car pushes forward abruptly. I've complained about this to my dealership but they said the car is working perfectly. I also average around 32 to 33 MPG which I was getting with my mk5 gasoline Jetta. I expected to get at least 38 MPG which is only attainable on long highway trips. Despite all these issues, I am still very happy with my car and my purchase. The extended warranty is fantastic and covers the entire emissions system and most of the engine parts. You can't beat the value of a VW TDi, but expect to have some issues because most of these cars sat in a parking lot for 1 year or more before they were put back in cerculation.

I live in western Pennsylvania I’ve owned nothing but regular cab Dodge Ram half tons and wanted something different. So two and a half years ago I bought a cpo 2012 two door golf TDI with a standard trans it had 42k on it at purchase and as of today I have 73k on it. I’ve only had two problems, the Mass airflow sensor went bad on me when I was driving for work down in Atlanta through a hurricane so my thoughts are maybe it a little moisture on it perhaps and then the egr actuator valve which was a major issue it went into limp mode no boost what so ever thankfully I was home and the vw dealer is 10 miles from my house, other than that my CPO bumper to bumper ended the beginning of June so I’ve decided to tune and delete and keep it long term. I have also been thinking of picking up a CPO Touareg TDI.
@doublejslist
@doublejslist 4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't tune and delete yet, as you still probably have some of the EPA emissions warranty left. Put your VIN in this to see how much of the warranty you have left. It pretty much covers anything that causes a check engine light. www.vwdieselinfo.com I have been thinking about one of my future videos on tunes.

@@doublejslist unfortunately it is a design flaw from VW for the 2014 Passat. Although I do need to find another dealer, I have to take it back tomorrow because they watered down my engine coolent. Was at +12°f, that would be a big problem this winter for me.

Enjoyed the video (and I like the cameo by your dog) Curious, what was the fix for the sunroof and did it stop the leaking? Also, I'm looking at getting a 2015 Golf Sportwagen TDI, and was wondering what the intervals are for the scheduled maintenance and roughly what the costs are. Sounds like you are saying there is a big one at 40K...do you do that again at 80K? Thanks.
@doublejslist
@doublejslist 3 жыл бұрын
The dealer told me that they replaced one of the drain tubes in the area that was leaking. Here we are about a year later and I haven't had any leaks since. The expensive maintenance intervals are at every 40K for the DSG automatic transmission. It adds about $400 around here to the normal oil change that you have to do 10K. If you get a manual transmission, you don't have this interval.

HPFP failure happened to my car, although it’s relatively rare. My car gave me a flashing glow plug light, followed by an inability to accelerate beyond third gear or so. I’d pull over, shut off, and restart, which would always correct the problem until the next occurrence. But since I’ve had the HPFP replaced last fall, I haven’t had any issues.

any advice on how to buy any 2015 VW TDI's from auction? Would you buy it again know what you know now?
@doublejslist
@doublejslist 4 жыл бұрын
If you have a way to find out the in-service date for the cars you are looking at to get a good idea of when the warranty expires, that will be a great help. It’s also helpful to find out when/if the emissions update has been completed and if both stages or just the first have been completed. As with 2015s it’s a two stage process. Would I do it again. Yes, but I’d do it differently. I would do a 2015 for the better warranty and better fuel economy. I’d also get one without a panoramic sunroof, because they all seem to leak at some point. I’d also go manual instead of DSG. It’s not that I don’t like the DSG, it’s the cost of the service every 40k. If you are buying at auction, not having a record of that service, pretty much means you are forking over 4-500 right off the bat to know the car is starting at square one.
