In today's session, we explain why the backhand and forehand have different sources of power and how to apply the forehand power supply to your game
The forehand and backhand strokes in tennis differ in several ways.
Anatomy:
The forehand and backhand strokes require the use of different muscle groups. The forehand stroke relies on the muscles of the dominant arm, including the shoulder, arm, and wrist muscles, whereas the backhand stroke requires the use of the non-dominant arm muscles, including the muscles of the shoulder, arm, and torso.
Physics:
The physics involved in the forehand and backhand strokes also differ. In the forehand stroke, the player generates power and spin by applying force to the ball through a horizontal swing plane.
This creates a topspin that causes the ball to dip down and land in the court. In contrast, the backhand stroke requires a vertical swing plane to generate power and spin. This produces a slice that causes the ball to travel low and fast over the net.
Biomechanics:
The biomechanics involved in the forehand and backhand strokes also differ. In the forehand stroke, the player's body rotates to generate power and transfer weight from the back foot to the front foot.
This requires proper hip and shoulder rotation to efficiently transfer energy to the ball. In contrast, the backhand stroke involves more of a linear motion, with the player moving their body forward and striking the ball with a straight arm. This requires strong core muscles to stabilize the body and generate power.
Overall, the use of anatomy, physics, and biomechanics in the forehand and backhand strokes in tennis differ significantly. Expert players must understand these differences and be able to execute each stroke with precision and efficiency to succeed at the highest level of play.

Oh wow, the wrist flexion exercise. I've never seen this. This, as with many of your ideas, could be a game changer for me.

The forehand is the sword 🗡️ and the backhand is the shield 🛡️, indeed the racket 🎾is an offensive and a defensive weapon , I love your analogy 👍🏻❤️🎾

Interesting addition to your earlier forehand videos on the use of the hips. Have you done a video on how to use the hips and left arm on the serve (both flat and kick)?

I have really enjoyed your videos and I found quite a few of them useful for my coaching. When I was young I had two hands off of the forehand side similar to a left handed backhand but I served right. When I went to Florida in 1984 they made that side into a one handed forehand and I never really felt as comfortable with it. When I hit forehands choked up with the baby grip I can create a lot of good racket speed and it feels natural with the correct amount of rotation. When I drop my hand further down on the grip I don’t feel like I have the same amount of success. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you much

I agree with your assessment but also add that the forehand uses a lot of large pectoral muscles instead of the smaller scapula muscles involved in the backhand. That's also why you can't hit a high backhand while you can hit a high forehand.

Hi. I think that you mean the muscles around the scapula. And don't you think that the rhomboids and trapezius do for the backhand what the pectoral muscles do for the backhand?

The previous video discussed racquet lag on the forehand and letting the ball get past the hand. Can we apply this concept on the one-handed backhand drive as well. 🤔 🎾
