Some years ago, I met Japan through anime, but I always wanted to learn more about Japan "in real life", and one of the first videos I saw about that it was yours. After that, I started to research more about Japan and get in love more and more with that country, I learned japanese and even went to live to Nagoya for one year as an interchange student, all thanks to videos like yours that inspired me, thank you so much!! I'm so glad you'll continue making videos even after those challenging days because I'm sure you'll continue inspiring so much more people from now. Keep going! (And sorry my bad english hahah)

Hi John, I almost cried when you mentioned pressing the reset button because this is exactly what I’m considering now! But it needs lots of courage especially when you have a family. Thanks for your inspiring words. I’ll keep optimistic and never give up. You too! All the best.

It's really hard to do Crystal - not every situation is the same, but happiness comes from finding a path your comfortable with. A little courage can open doors - I've learned in life that often you don't end up where you were planning to go. More often than not, I end up in an even better place, the risk and push forward rewarded with amazing opportunities! You'll get knocked down a lot starting over, far from easy, but on the other side, the sunsets are more beautiful, the smiles much bigger. Wish you so much success!

Hey John. So glad I discovered your new channel recently after not realizing you had left the old one! I have a couple video ideas for you relating to my favourite place in Japan-Yakushima. You could do a video about the world's oldest living tree, the yakusugi in the middle of the island (be warned, it was about an 11 hour round trip for me to hike there!). Also, you could do a second video about how the island was an inspiration for the setting of Princess Mononoke and the folklore surrounding the kodama that are found both on the island and in the movie.

Japan became a focal point for me after I visited there for the first time in 2013. It was a 40th birthday gift to myself. One of the best I ever got. From this moment on, Japan is on my mind. I started learning Japanese (still does...), I read about it, visited 3 times and even lived in Osaka for a year, studying Japanese. But I learned the most about the culture, real life and interesting places from your channel. I watched ALL the episodes and took notes to visit some of the places. I even agreed to hitchhike in Japan after watching your hitchhike videos from a couple of years ago. This was by far one of the best things I did in Japan. Thank you for everything! Keep creating fascinating content and inspire us all! Cheers!

John, I've watched your channel grow from strength to strength. That's been through your hard work and dedication, but it's the overt love for Japan that shines through in your stories and interviews that I feel has been your reason for success and inspiration for so many. Also, thank you for allowing us to be a part of your life and introducing us to the lovely Kanae and now little Rio. After watching you for so long, I feel like I'm part of your family as I'm sure many of your community feel. 😁 Unfortunately, I didn't get to make a vid for your video collage (In part due to my being a little camera shy), but I love what you do no less. I'll always be here to support you and your OIJ channel for as long as you'll be doing this. You deciding to create your new OIJ channel and starting over was a great decision because now you are free to create the type of content you want and dictate how you want run your channel. You've always been true to yourself and I really admire you for taking that leap of faith. Your channel will continue to grow well beyond one million subscribers. Keep being you! Love you my bro!

I think this channel should have at least 2M subs. I mean you look at the videos and the quality is something you would find in a Netflix documentary series if not even better!

I'll be honest, when I saw the title I thought John somehow got his old channel back. Still, it's honestly inspiring seeing you rebuild after the channel you worked so hard to grow was taken from you like that. I wish you all the best going forward and thank you so much for all the incredible content you've shared over the years! You were the main inspiration for my trips to Japan pre-Covid, and I can't wait to go back soon.

As much as I like the idea of new content every week or even more, I fear that the production quality will suffer if you are doing too many videos. So 1 video every 2 weeks is totally fine and will make everyone happy. Loving your channel since many many years, and I hope to see you for many more years coming. I wish you and your family the best, stay heathly. Greetings from Germany.

I understand that line of thinking. It's important to also grow the channel because the income would help me hire a team to help me film and edit the episodes I have in mind. To this day,. I have edited every episode, my DNA is in the story and I don't want that to change but I'll keep trying to find a way to make more content at the highest quality.
