I thought the very same but in my playthrough there only a few moments where I lost a lot of units due to ranged, like that narrow bridge scene against an empire faction. Most archers I fought against actually had 0 kills against me, I just used a few lines of loose formation and just charged with hundreds of shock troops, but before I would usually wait behind a hill until they got close. I pretty much maxed two handed, athletics, polearm, (and a lot in one handed from tournaments) pretty quickly, so had a bunch of perks that increased HP of troops, reduces some damage taken, increases in movement speed, swing speed, damage, etc.

@@Mr.Chicken I often loose them in bandit hideouts. Or when the enemy has a lot of javelins.

@@steffent.6477Javelins are the hard counter but fortunately 0 armies are made of just that so it works. Love using the Javelins against two handers in multiplayer since I’m trash

I think they nerfed Archers i remember before Archers was stron then i started to play now after maybe 5 months and Archers are weary weak now..@@Mr.Chicken

Man idk how people think this tactical about bannerlord. I always use legionnaires for infantry, elite Cataphracts for cav and fian champs as archers/ backup for the infantry if they’re getting kinda fucked, and sometimes getting khan guard. Then I just use the same hammer and anvil tactics, bringing my cav behind the enemies lines to kill the archers and make some of the infantry turn around, giving the fian easy kills, then crushing them between my infantry and cav while sending the fians perpendicular to get a better shot. Usually ends up with some deaths but never more than 10 if I face a same size army or slightly bigger. I try to change it up sometimes but hammer and anvil is what I’m most comfortable with

The fastest method to obtain a Falx if you are not dedicated to blacksmithing. Another beautiful weapon in the game is Early Retirement (I don't know if that's what its name is in English), a possible tournament reward. It doesn't have a good cut like the falx, but it kills horses with one thrust if they charge at you.

@@fabf77 Early Retirement is in fact the name in English. Kind of a hilarious name.

@@samuelrussell5760 I had doubts since the translation of retirement is "Retiro", and can refer to withdrawal in Spanish. Perhaps since the company is not English speaking, there may have been a change in meaning in the translation and in fact the real name is different. It's a bit ironic yes, since if you play without blacksmithing and you get this powerful weapon, you're going to want everything but retire haha.

Honestly as far as I know, all the mods I use are outdated. But you can find mods on Nexus mods and see the comments on how stable they are

think the next one will be cav only playthrough or a sequel to this one first, not sure yet

They’re probably the best seige troop. They one hit small enemies and 2-3 tier 5 enemies compared to the 2-4 hit tier 1-3 enemies and 4-8 hits on tier 5 from non shock troops. Making just nothing get past the ladder

@@Mr.Chicken I meant how should you use shield infantry, shock troop, mounted archer etc.

the videos I listed has a some of that. Like use high ground for everything but cavalry & that high ground is the best for archers so always look for the high ground if you have a lot of archers. The archer video shows the best formations vs every troop type. For shield infantry Just place them in front of your archers on high ground. The archers should still be able to shoot because of high ground. Try to use less lines in a shield wall then more (never use more than 4), it will help a lot in melee vs other infantry. With shock troops just charge enemy infantry. You can have them in the same formation you have your shield infantry in and they should block most ranged projectiles to protect shock troops. But if you have enough shock troops like I did in the video, you can just charge them all and there is simply too many for the enemy stop. With mounted archers, just camp on high ground and let them fire their bows. Charging them makes them run in circles against the enemy shooting their bow, but they will miss most of their shots and the AI will screw up and they will charge directly into a spear. A better tactic is to split your horse archers in two formations, and place them in opposite sides of the enemy. Enemy infantry will not know which side to use their shield on. If you have a bunch of cavalry only fight in open maps (this depends where you fight in the world map, so never fight in the forest). Then make 2-3 lines of cavalry and charge.

I did use the voulgiers but not that much. I mostly used the heroic line breakers and the menavliatons. Both are pretty damn good, but imo the menavliatons are a bit better, but it's so close it doesn't really matter.
