Question. What purpose do the holes in the symballs have?
@DRUMNERD
@DRUMNERD Жыл бұрын
@@hitokiriizo good question. They effect it’s ability to properly resonate which in turn changes it’s sonic properties making it sound a lot more trashy and less resonant than say a crash cymbal which would be able to continue vibrating for longer. I hope my crude and basic response expressed the point well enough 😀 Be well.

Onset is the second song I heard (and saw live on YT) and the reason why I fell in love with Band Maid. This instrumental always gives me goosebumps. I'm not a musician but I fully felt the level of talent of each of them. There is only one thing missing in this video, Akane's face and her smile. Thanks.

Thanks for the great analysis. Akane "The Gorilla"! What makes her special is how musical her drumming is. She serves the song instead of just bashing, which she is perfectly capable of doing. What is amazing is that she picked up drumming pretty late after trying a number of other instruments. She is clearly a natural.

'Onset' was the second Band-Maid song I listened to. The first was the original MV of 'Thrill' 'Thrill didn't sell me on Band-Maid but 'Onset' did. I'm not a drumming expert but the first thing I noticed about 'Onset' was how distinctive the drumming was. Not just supporting the song by keeping time but advancing the song, making it more interesting and distinctive. Later I noticed the quality of the other instruments but Akane's drumming was what initially sold me on Band-Maid.

Congratulations on reaching the 2000 subscriber mark! Always enjoy your analysis of drumming by talented musicians and Band-Maid's Akane Hirose is surely one of the best ones actively playing today. It's amazing how smoothly and effortlessly she plays without any wasted motions. In fact, all the members in Band-Maid are top tier musicians and Akane certainly contributes mightily to their unique and powerful sound.

One of the unique things Band-Maid does for their fans is release 'focus' videos for their more complex compositions. I call them Band-Maid's 'White Room' videos because you'll see Misa, Miku, Akane, and Kanami set up in a line against a white proscenium performing the song sans vocals. They'll have five 'focus' versions of the same song: the four instrumentalists as a group and each instrumentalist alone, as we see Akane here. Such videos are generally released on bonus DVD/Blu Ray discs with their Limited Editions, Special Editions, or boxed set album releases. The "Onset" White Room is on the 'Conqueror' DVD/Blu-ray (Limited Edition) along with "Domination" and "Dice". And you might ask, "Why do they do they do this?" or "Why no vocals?" The 'no vocals' answer is easy: Band-Maid will bury a lot of very tasty musicianship underneath Saiki and Miku's vocals and these videos let you focus on all those sweet riffs the Maids are laying down under the vocals. Additional to this, I suspect they do these videos to answer the critics who couldn't accept that these five women really do rock this hard and play at this high level. Early in their career, a handful of critics dismissed them as a 'put-up' idol group who simply pantomimed their videos to a studio recording; those critics couldn't believe they were playing their own instruments. Frankly, in the early days, Miku was not playing. But today we know better. Watch these videos, enjoy, and see how hard the Maids work to produce the music we love. Even Miku, whose rhythm parts are far more nuanced than you might think. After all, Miku has one of the best guitar instructors on the planet: Kanami Tono.

Yes it is called a crash ride cymbal and double pedals were used in middle section as well. Akane does very subtle double bass work that could be single pedal work and you will not notice. She can lay down bombastic obvious double bass work, but often she uses double pedal for short fills. It is signature of her style and gives it a unique feel. Instead of a massive x2 bass ostinato she will throw in 2nd pedal for subtle fills. In this song she is using hi-hat open/close accents more which is why she is more on hi-hat pedal, but when ever she is crash/riding she covers the second bass pedal, throwing in quick doubles and triples and other musical patterns, you might be able to do single pedal but she does with two (very well). BTW the guitar player Kanami Tōno code name "Mincho" is the one that pushed Akane to play double bass. Mincho is the primary song writer. Although to whole band collaborates, very tight, supportive socially and musically, Mincho is a little genius and has guitar skills and sound to love... You can hear how well the whole band fits and play together. Seen them live x3. They look like they are having the time of their life. The fans love them, and they reflect that back. it is very special.

Should not be a problem. Band Maid is generous about reaction vids. This particular clip does not appear to be from Prime, but one of the older Blu-Rays. Plus, what happen to the whole idea of fair use for instructional purpose? It still is part of US copy write law, albeit not widely allowed by the evil music publishers.

I'm going to say this once, and once only - First, I make no money off of about 90% of my video's because all of the music assessed is owned (so in fact all money these small videos make goes to the band/label they're on, so it's more of a help than hinderance) Second, once I have my studio set up in the way I want and in general, I fully intend on playing drums all the time on this channel (it's the main reason why I started it in the first place). Third, I have dozens of video's on how to play rudiments, drum lessons, etc. Fourth and final, who in the absolute fuck do you think you are to tell me what video's to make and how many of them there should be? I'm simply trying to raise awareness of Band Maid and the other bands to hopefully help people understand what the talented Akane and other drummers are playing, which is why I don't just say ''wow''. Be well.
