After purchasing this great looking GWR 72xx which is perfect for hauling frieght. Getting home from the show where I had purchased it from I found when looking at the loco it was missing some details.
This episode shows how we takled this model railway issue and gain confidence when working on locos.
Also I have dropped in some footage from when I travelled down to Swanage Railway.
I hope you enjoy the video!

Absolutely right!! As one of the operatives at the Epping Ongar Railway, I can tell you that the colour of the driver’s gear is turns from blue to grey because of all the filth on the locomotive footplate.

Hello Chris, love your 72XX.,great locomotive. Sorry to find out it had no rear buffers, you would think that people who sell locomotives would be more honest as a prospective customer would probably come back and purchase maybe another locomotive if the locomotive was complete with all it's pieces it should have. Anyway you rectified the faults and did an amazing job and now your 72XX looks amazing. Well done sir.👍. A great video and a great channel as always. 🚂🙂

Hey Tris, I have just finished working a 13 day stint at work and only got one day off this week, so I settled down for a few minutes to view your video. How frustrating for you to open the box and find bits missing but the uplifting part of it is to see you not only fix but improve the model. A great job and well done and a wonderful addition to your fleet. Hope to catch a live stream soon. Take care and stay safe :) :) :)

Great effort, and the loco really looks the part. Just one tip for you. When you cut out parts from etchings, it's best to use a piece of hardboard underneath, rather than your cutting mat, which will yield a little just as the blade goes through, and that can distort the edge of the part. (Also, using a rocking motion with a curved blade in your scalpel is easier on the wrists. But use an old blade, because you're going to blunt it anyway.)

Those 2-8-2s were easy to derail in yards. I scratch built a 2-8-0T out of brass in EM and it negotiates all pointwork and pulls everything. It is unsprung and has lead shot in every nookand cranny.

@@OONeal Also you might bear in mind that the music makes things difficult for those, like myself, with hearing problems. Really, unless the music is essential to the presentation, I'd suggest that less is better. Though I didn't really have trouble making out what you were saying in this video, for the most part. I wish I could paint figures as well as you do... my eyesight and hands are not up to that standard. I particularly thought that the figures and the real coal made the most impact with this model.

If people want to practice weathering and you don't want to try on a full new loco you could always have a rummage through the 50p boxes and second hand stalls at model rail show. Get old trucks and loco bodies that you won't miss. Also Tris are you tempted by the Bachmann Fairlie for your 009 section?

Awesome video as always Tris, sorry the model wasn’t what you’d hope for the money, nothing worse than that underwhelming feeling when you’ve parted with a load of cash and it’s ‘meh’. Looks great though, and as for the filler, in service repair 😉 besides, how often do you see both sides of a loco at once 😁 What’s gone wrong with the printer? Would you be able to do a quick summary of what went wrong and how it was fixed at some point? Don’t go to any trouble (especially on my account) but a quick mention would be great to know and what the rest of us need to keep an eye out for
