I know this video is a bit old but I just thought I'd let you know that the part (usually concrete) that the ends of girder bridges (and other styles) sit on are called abutments...

Part 2 of this video will be available in about 2 weeks. I know in the video that I said a few days, but I forgot that I had to install the third rail for the section behind the elevated track before I can finish the elevated track section - oops! :)

Did you ever do the part two ? I would like to see it if you have thanks Derek
@Oorail

+Derek Peters Nope. What happened was that I changed that part of the layout so I ended up needing to complete the area behind the incline. I decided to build the extensive extension first. You should see part 2 before Christmas though as I'm currently working on it. Its the last piece of track I need to put down.

Will these measurements work for o scale?
@Oorail
@Oorail 6 жыл бұрын
The technique will definitely work, you would probably want the highest point to be higher as the values in the video were for OO scale rolling stock clearances (height) and obviously O gauge would be bigger. You could probably get away with just continuing the measurements to the desired height. The measurements in my second video are a little higher, so those may work for O gauge, I believe the target was 12.5cm in height in the second video.

presumably the calculations are different for N gauge

The approach should be the same, you obviously don't need to go up as far but due to the smaller scale, you probably want a comparable run. I have another video on scaling factors and there is an article over at oorail.co.uk on it for 3D printing. I think you might be able to use the same scaling factor between OO and N for the 3D models, for the incline. If that makes sense?

A 1.9% incline in n gauge would get you track height of 2 inches for clearance in 9 feet (straight line) That's 1 in 36

Why use a jigsaw for straight cuts? Use a hand held ten on saw; it won't wobble or go got straight.

In Memoriam: Greg the Troll, a right ol' tin 'at 'e was! 'Ere lies Greg, a proper troll 'oo carked it from a laughin' fit, after 'e bellowed "OMG" wiv all 'is might. Poor ol' Greg was workin' on 'is model railway track, the apple of 'is blinkin' eye, when 'e discovered that no matter wot 'e did, 'e couldn't get the bloomin' thing elevated. It was always as flat as a pancake, a bit like 'is sense of humour. Our dearly departed Greg adored jeeps, even tho' 'e was as 'eartless as a shiny tin man. Bein' a right ol' tin 'at meant 'e spent 'is days leavin' little comments on t'internet, comments so small and pointless they'd make a flea scoff. 'E was the type to tell you your shoe's untied when you ain't got no bloomin' laces. But, alas, poor Greg was a loner, a real Billy No-Mates. In fact, 'e 'ad no mates at all, which is why 'e spent 'is days leavin' pointless comments instead of 'aving a good ol' natter wiv someone who might actually care. No one will miss 'im, since 'e's not survived by anyone, but at least 'e's found 'is peace, even if it's six feet under. So let's raise a glass to ol' Greg the Troll, a right ol' tin 'at 'oo died chuckling at 'is own failures. Maybe 'e's up there in the great big model railway in the sky, wiv jeeps and 'eartless tin men just like 'im. Or maybe 'e's still stuck in that flat ol' world of 'is, where 'e can't get it up no matter 'ow 'ard 'e tries. RIP Greg, you ol' tin 'at. Let's 'ope you find some mates wherever you end up, and remember to leave a comment or two, just to let us know you're still out there, trollin' in the great beyond.

@@cadmaster44 Well, cor blimey, mate! Looks like we got ourselves a right ol' clever clogs 'ere, eh? Can't quite wrap your noggin' around a bit of the ol' Cockney banter, can ya? If this 'ere nonsense has got your knickers in a twist, then you're in for a right ol' time. You see, me old china, we Cockneys got a way of twistin' words and 'avin' a bit of fun wiv it. We ain't 'ere to make sense, but to 'ave a good ol' laugh, and maybe confuse a few people along the way, like yourself. It's all part of the charm, innit? So, next time you find yourself scratchin' your 'ead at a bit of Cockney nonsense, just remember: we ain't doin' it to make sense, we're doin' it to 'ave a larf. Don't take it too seriously, mate, life's too short for that. Now, 'ave a cuppa and enjoy the ride. Cheers!
