First thing is apply for e pass. They will give permission for four passengers per car. I am not sure if children are counted as one passenger, so you have to check that during application itself. Many hotels are closed, so make prior booking. My e pass was rejected twice, so try that first and keep travel dates flexible.

Welcome 😊 I had my breakfast in my hotel (part of the packaage). I packed some idli, poori etc and took from small restaurants for my day trips - as nothing was open near conoor or emerald. I had dinner in commercial road - blue hills restaurant on two days and parcelled dinner from JJ restaurant on two days. Both are non veg restaurants, we loved the food. All restaurants are open on commercial road, so you can go there and check out what you like. No lakes were open in October. I don’t know about now 😊

Check out booking.com (not sponsored) for hotel booking. You will get for all budgets. Read the reviews before booking, the reviews are reliable and you can make a good decision. All hotels are open in the main commercial road of Ooty. I had dine in dinner in blue hills hotel and parcelled from JJ hotel, both in commercial road. The dinein did not work well for us as i too have a two year old kid and he was touching everything and falling everywhere and we were scared of infection 🤦‍♀️ parcelling the food worked better for us

I was in Ooty from 11-15th October. Regarding public transport - - You can take bus till conoor and take another village bus till dolphin nose. Frequency is bad. One bus in half an hour or so. Bus goes only near dolphins nose and you have to walk a bit. No buses in Connor to other places to the best of my knowledge. I have taken these village buses on my previous trips. After dolphin nose I could not go anywhere alse as it was too far to walk. - The Ooty Conoor mountain train is fun, but it’s not functioning at present due to covid. - Inside Ooty you can not rely on public transport. You can take cab and go by walk to any place which is nearby. Hope this helps you plan your trip.

E pass nowadays is just to have a count of number of tourists entering Ooty. So it may not be compulsory. But I am not sure, so please verify from the helpline in the e registration website

I don’t think e pass is required for public bus. And rules will definitely change by March, so wait for that. I have travelled to Ooty by bus four years back. The ksrtc Volvo was very comfortable and fast (semi sleeper). I took private bus on the way back and it was not very comfortable. I don’t know about the present situation

All restaurants in the main Commercial Street were open. You will have lots of veg and non veg options there. I got my meals from there only.

I doubt it. As long as the e pass system is there, they will allow very few people to enter Ooty, so they may not open up other places.

Thank you 😀 Boating was not available in any lake. The places which were open were safe, because they were gardens with lots of outdoor space and tourists were very few. In my opinion, the risk is in staying in hotels and eating out

In the first step of applying for pass, you should select the option - travel from outside TN. Then you can register other state car. I travelled with Ka registration car

@@godbol I don’t think rented cars or taxis are prohibited. Their rules state that even taxis are allowed and there is a provision for the driver to drop off the passengers in Ooty and go back alone. Just make sure car number is correct and even for the taxi driver, put his correct details

Better take a hotel near commercial road. Then the main market with restaurants, bus stand, lake and railway station will be within walkable distance. To travel around ooty, you can take taxis - you will find many people on main road accosting you. You can book tours through travel agencies which are located in the commercial road. Most often, your hotel can also arrange transport for sightseeing, so ask them

I personally like Ooty as it is at a higher altitude and gives more hill station feeling than Coorg. But if it comes to children, both are cool and nice 😊

The hotels charge varying rate based on the tourist season. For example during weekdays or off season, if a hotel charges 1500, the same hotel may charge more than 3000 per day during busy holidays. To get an idea about hotel costs, I always check on booking.com (not sponsored). As for eating out, in good restaurants on the main Commercial Street, you may have to pay about 700 for two people for dinner. Smaller restaurants may be slightly cheaper.

Kakanalla is the checkpost at mudumalai. But as you have broadly selected Nilgiris, I hope you can say change of route and manage nadugani. Just to visit emerald lake you don’t need forest dept permission. The lake is beside the village roads so you can easily access it. I don’t about permission for fishing though. You cannot go to avalanche lake as the forest dept has closed it.

They did not take test for us. I went to Ooty and Kodaikanal after lockdown, they did not ask in both places. But the rules may change frequently, so better you call up the Nilgiris district covid helpline and confirm before travelling

You can’t go there and apply. You will be stopped at the border only. We went through mudumalai, so they checked the pass there before sending us further. My epass got rejected twice. Just change the date and apply again. Some day you will get, so keep travel dates flexible

@@Ysak_M I booked the standard room. But got upgraded to the ground floor room with balcony (may be deluxe room, I am not sure) when I reached there as there were hardly any other people staying that time. I paid 6000 for four nights (through booking.com).

I personally am scared to travel in sleeper bus right now, because they say covid can live on surfaces for a week and I don’t want to sleep in that fear. But apart from that, sleeper buses are the most comfortable. I used to travel to Goa only by sleeper buses till recently.

If it is rejected, that means they have reached the limit of people allowed per day. So apply for another date. I got validity for two days only. That is to enter Ooty. After that no one asked and I stayed for 4 days.

Nilgiris district, kakanalla check post. You will need to provide any ID proof, like Aadhaar, license, passport - for all passengers. For my children I put not applicable and they didn’t object

Check out Booking.com (not sponsored) to book hotels. The main road in Ooty is the commercial road. You can check the distance of the hotel from this road or from ooty bus stand or lake by using gps to see how far from city Centre it is. Be careful, even 3 kms from city centre is quite far in Ooty and will be isolated and lonely. You will need to hire a taxi every time you will venture out into the city. Better take a hotel near commercial road, it is walkable distance to lake, bus stand and railway station, and all restaurants too. You can travel via taxi. There are tour buses, but I don’t know if they are operating now due to covid. There is no option to hire bikes

You can apply for e pass whenever you want. I applied two days before my travel date. However, as you are travelling in February, my suggestion would be to wait till January, as the rules may change. They are changing rules every month. 60+ years old people are also allowed. 4 people per car is also allowed.

Taxis are operating in Ooty. Before covid, tour buses were there, they were very economical and used to take 10-12 tourists to major attractions. I don’t know if they have started again now.
