This is a very illustrative video of what the OP-Z is musically capable of. What drew me to it is that the device has no screen. Everyone keeps complaining about the lack of screen, to me the fact that it lacks a screen it’s what’s makes it super cool. The lack of screen completely streamlines your workflow in ways you wouldn’t though possible as the video clearly shows. On top of it, it’s battery powered and tiny. The device is absolutely genius and cannot wait to get my hands on one. Congrats on the video, well done!

This is the exact video I needed. I've been getting OP-Z questions but up until this video I hadn't seen it being used in a way I'd imagine using it. I totally understand it's appeal now.

I really like the way you shot this! Not easy to do with such a small device. The experience of using the OP-Z doesn’t translate to KZfaq as naturally as the OP-1, but I appreciate you narrating when the colors of the LEDs change even though the camera can’t quite pick it up
@BrandonGuerraDrums5 жыл бұрын
thanks so much! Yeah the op-z is so tiny, it was tricky getting everything to look right for the video haha. I was also on the fence about narrating or just adding text, so that's good to know as well. Thanks for the compliments!

Can you see them change? I can't...I suspect this op-z isn't the best choice for a colour blind person :(
@BrandonGuerraDrums5 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can definitely see them change. I'm sure it's my camera and the lighting. Also - when cycling through the different colors, the numbers also light up "1, 2, 3, and 4" respectively!

Amazing video, thanks! Really helps as I’ve just got the op-z and haven’t used step sequencers before. Quick question: at 2:45 where you set the number of bars from 1 to 8, it seems that it’s really setting the number of beats her step. So now each light represents eight beats? It’s tricky to me because now the lights don’t fully represent everything going on in the step - is there any way to expand them to see all the beats? I’m also having this problem with multiple hits on the same step, i.e. layering multiple kicks. I can’t see the individual kicks anymore, just one light that represents both. Am I missing something? Thanks for this video, subscribing!
@decb.79595 жыл бұрын
I think that because there are only 16 lights, it's really a more zoomed-out view of the entire track. I don't think that you can zoom in.
@BrandonGuerraDrums5 жыл бұрын
Hey! For now, the only way to add additional steps per trig is to live record. There's no way to zoom past the 16 lights like you mentioned. That might be updated in the future so there might be a way to go in and see each individual one. As far as the 2 samples per single trig, check out the musical keyboard while it's playing back. The keys should light up at the moment they are being played in your music, and you can see which samples are being used. Not sure if that helped, but hope it did! Thanks for subscribing.

Brandon Guerra oh thanks yeah that definitely helps! So much different functionality condensed into this thing, my head’s still spinning 3 days into it!

This was a great demo. I’m on the fence now. I already have the OP-1 and was hoping this would have some of the sound synthesis capability, but unless I’m wrong, it seems it is highly preset driven, and you can only modify the preset sounds with filters. Is there any sound synthesis capability like LFO/waveforms/ADSR sculpting? Also, is it possible to connect a external keyboard either via USB or wireless? It seems like the buttons are a bit stiff to play. And I guess the most often asked question - is it worth the money in your opinion?
@beattherapydotcom5 жыл бұрын
You can control ADSR easily enough, and LFO... it doesn't have the same depth as the OP-1 in the synth department, but I'm enjoying it a lot more. You can also import sampled instruments in the same format as the OP-1 (sans OP-1 fx & lfo). If you like pattern based sequencing, there's so much depth to this thing. =) 💙👍
@beattherapydotcom5 жыл бұрын
And USB keyboard connection is super easy. It worked first try for me. Cuckoo just posted a video today about the subject of MIDI devices with this... =)
@bwest62755 жыл бұрын
Beat Therapy thanks! Well I actually bought it and have had it for a few days now. It’s a bit of a memorization curve but I’m getting used to it so recalling all the encoder modes is getting easier. Have to admit that I’m not in love with all the sound engines, nor a lot of the included samples, but will remedy that with those made from the OP-1. But as you mention, pattern based sequencing on this is effortless. Which is why I will keep it. Now the nest step - can I use it to sequence my hardware synths via midi. Will check out Cuckoos latest midi video.

But how do you know how loud you are in the master or how hard the compressor works on the master channel? What if track 1 is overdrive but you didn't realize it ?
@BrandonGuerraDrums5 жыл бұрын
most of that stuff is indicated by the lights next to the disks, or the app will tell you.

I've heard that it helps to at least get started using the device. An IOS device isn't required to get the full functionality, but it can help with your workflow from what I've seen

@@kairos5707 Ugly might not be the best word.I am equally drawn by its rectilinear sterileness as I am repulsed by it.There are times when I am lured to it as if it is a lovely piece of thin brick like concrete that fell off of a Bauhaus building.The lines and circles are nicely juxtaposed.Overall for me it is jolie laide.Nice to know you recommend it.I might pick one up.
